Silver Wish

Chapter 73 - Will it ever end?

'But those feelings can destroy a person.' Sumire kept that to herself, but she couldn't help but think how much of a waste it was. Once again, a deep love is on the verge of destroying people's lives. She wonders when this painful cycle will end.

Will it ever end?

Her thoughts broke off hearing rustling. Sumire extended her hand out to quickly form a red-shaped sword, but there was no need for it. Her eyes widened when she saw the person standing at the gate.

"Hus-" Her sentence fell short when Yuhi marched over and pinched her cheeks.

His eyes twitched, annoyed. "I already told you to quit sneaking off! Why are you doing this right after we spoke about it?"

"Uh, you don't have to watch me so much. I was only taking a look."

"In your condition?"

Her sweat fell when she saw the dangerous-looking aura around him. So that is why he has been behaving like that recently. She supposes that makes sense. Even back when they were younger, she could never hide anything from this person.

Yuhi's gaze fell on the bottle in her hands. "Lucifer?" He guessed.

Sumire nodded slowly. "He went inside." She pointed at the portal. "I think this is the place Yuhi. Haruka-kun and Rikka-chan must be in there."

Yuhi, however, didn't respond to that, and he continued to stare at the bottle. "Take one."

"You have no idea how hard I have been racking my brain on this one. I can tell you are getting weaker, but I don't understand the reason why. I have been doing my own research, but I still can't figure out the reason. You seem to know already, but you won't tell me anything, so I have no choice but to find out the reason on my own."

Oh, once again he--

"So this is the famous PDA." Carter nodded. "I see you two truly care for each other even though so much time has passed."

Despite her initial embarrassment, Sumire coughed and responded. "I think you can build that relationship with Rika-chan once she learns how hard you searched for her."

Carter shook his head and laughed. "If Rika-san were the type who could be win over by that, then she would already be mine."

Yuhi raised his face from her neck. "Aren't you giving up too easily?"

"Hey Yuhi-" Sumire tried to stop him, but Yuhi continued.

"I don't know you or that girl. But from what I have heard from my daughter, the only reason Shinozaki remains hung up on Haruka is because she believes there is nobody who can love her. I guess that feeling stems from how she was alienated from her family for so long, so she craved the warmth of another person. She thought she found it in Haruka, but she was wrong."

"Are you saying she is clinging to him only because she doesn't think anybody else can treat her as well? Even though Karashima-san does not love her?"

"But that is-"

"Sleeping with her when she is lonely and telling her you understand isn't going to cut it." Yuhi sighed. "This is why I hate elite values; they control their kids' emotions from a young age. They teach them that being a gentleman or perfect lady who controls their emotions is the best partner. But the reality is when it comes to the one you love, you lose control. If you showed that reaction instead, I am sure you would have won her over."

Carter seemed stunned at those words, but he slowly mumbled. "I see." He suddenly got up. "Sumire-san, please contact me once sir Lucifer has returned."

Sumire didn't get a chance to reply since Carter quickly hurried away. She pushed her husband away and scolded him. "Idiot, why did you interfere?"

"I am surprised you didn't. You have met with that kid many times and heard their story."

Sumire sighed deeply. "I don't think it is right to intervene too much. No matter what I say, he will take my words as being biased towards my daughter. It isn't a secret that Lila-chan and Rika-chan didn't get along."

"You would think with that information; this guy wouldn't be so bold to ask us for help."

"It is because our interests align, and right now, there are not many trustworthy people around."

"The key reason being you saved him from Sophia killing him?"

But even though she had that knowledge, she still came a step too late.

"The new generation will surpass the old. Perhaps I am not cut out for this."

She couldn't predict Sophia's movements, even though the old her would have been able to.

Yuhi kissed a strand of her hair and mumbled. "I really should take you somewhere and run away."

"Don't be irresponsible; we are partly to blame for all of this." Sumire trailed off. "Back then, something must have gone wrong. I understand that Zane has a grudge against me. But he shouldn't have been able to pull this off, especially with all the measures we put in place."

"Then should we visit the structure?"

"I was thinking that but," Her gaze fell towards the black hole. "I want to rescue Haruka-kun and Rikka-chan first. The latter aside, there is something that concerns me about Haruka-kun. Did you notice anything when you were training him?"

Yuhi paused for a moment. "Notice, huh-" He trailed off. "Well, I noticed that he has more darkness than Lila does."

At that comment, her eyes widened, alarmed. "Why didn't you say so sooner? What kind of darkness?" Sumire exclaimed.

"Yes, the abilities Rosalia-chan has are the ones she got from Makino-chan."

"One of the conditions that spared him from getting executed was him transferring half his abilities to someone. Naturally, since he already had a kid, everybody expected the child to get it, and he made it look that way."

"Then-"

"Don't you think that is odd? He agreed way too easily. I think the reason he agreed was because he already had a successor."

Sumire placed her hand on her forehead. She already felt like she knew where her husband was getting at. But if that is truly the case, then that would explain Lucifer's behavior whenever she mentioned Haruka. 'He seemed oddly concerned.'

If it is like that now, she understood why Haruka-kun disliked activating his hanyou state. While there were many hangouts out there who didn't accept their monster side, they would still activate it knowing the consequences. But from the very day she met Haruka-kun, Sumire noticed how strangely cautious the child was.
