Silver Wish

Chapter 74 - Sudden attack

If it is truly like this and Haruka-kun has Lucifer's powers, he also plays a key role in stopping Zane/s ridiculous plan. Sumire wondered if that was the reason why Zane kept Haruka close by. Surely he must have sensed it? Her thoughts broke off when she noticed her husband gradually getting closer; he was hugging her tightly before she knew it.

Her gaze softened when she realized that he was trembling. "Even if I tell you not to worry about me, I know you will."

"You're no longer young, but you still behave as carelessly as you did back then."

Sumire laughed when she heard his grumbling and that young remark. "I think I am more tamed now. I don't openly court disasters and search for fights on my own."

"Hah, why do you have to search for a fight? If you walk around for five minutes, you will get dragged into one. If somebody tamed you, I wouldn't be having a hard time."

"I find this unfair Yuhi-san, why do you have a counterattack for everything I say?"

"That, my dear, is because I am your loving husband."

Sumire rolled her eyes at those words. She didn't say anything for a while and continued to hug him. It truly is a mystery why this person still loves her as much as he did in the past. Then again, she always found it weird that he liked her so much. Back then, she had such a complicated and troublesome personality.

"You know I like flirting with you, my wife."

She laughed softly at those words. "I know you do."

"But, it seems people like to interrupt us."

Sumire closed her eyes briefly, and when she re-opened them, her eye color turned bright red. Right at that moment, several people wearing unusual-looking black and white uniforms surrounded them. They all had masks on their faces, so she could not identify them, but she knew who they were at a glance. Even if they have changed their uniform, there is no doubt who they are.

This group of people surrounding them is the SF, in other words, the special forces. They are a secret group of individuals with evolved genetics, a force similar to the police in terms of duties. But when she was younger, she went head to head with them, and they faded into the shadows. She exposed their former leader for corrupting the forces, and since then, nobody has heard from them.

Even if they tried to reform themselves, it would be difficult to regain power. So there was indeed only one way for them to survive. But it is still a shame.

A man with teal-colored hair stepped forward, and she immediately recognized him. He was the vice commander of the SF; it seems that is still the case. Sumire thought they would replace the commander with this guy, but it seems that isn't the case.

He responded to her mocking words by charging towards her switch a sword. Sumire sighed deeply and extended her hand out; blood-like particles formed from her fingertips, and soon she held a red-colored blade.

Two blades clashed, and an intense round began, but it was clear that she had the upper hand. The entire time the man didn't say a word.

'I wonder though, last time they met, he said he would find a way to reform the Sf. Could it be that his plans failed? It seems they even have a new commander.' She knew how organizations like that worked. Normally it takes years for them to trust a recruit and much longer for them to rise in the ranks to become a commander.

The tip of her blade grazed the right side of sir Lane's cheek. It was then where he mumbled something quietly.

"-run away. You have to run away."

Her eyes widened, realizing. 'It seems he had no choice but to attack her.' That makes sense; she judged him as a man of noble character.

Sumire glanced over and noticed all the people Lane came with were on the ground. Her sweat fell, as usual; he is way too fast. She didn't even hear him draw his blade. Despite them all being on the ground, Sumire knew her husband only knocked him out.

'It seems there is somebody else watching this battle; otherwise, sir Lane would not have attacked her.' No choice, huh? Sumire found his weak spot and kicked him to the ground. She extended her blade towards his neck.

"This is game over for you," Sumire said coldly. "Vice-captain of the SF, I will take you into custody."

...

At the hideout on the edge of town, Sumire waited until they reached a certain point before activating the barrier. She still didn't let her guard down until they were safely inside. She loosened the ropes and turned to Lane with a disappointed look.

"I will reform the SF?"

Lane sighed. "I did! It was going well for the first two years, but if somebody better comes along naturally-" Lane paused. "No, it was because I wasn't careful enough. I should have noticed it; she was such an unusual woman. But she was strong and managed to win people over."

"A woman?" Sumire trailed off and her gaze dimmed. "What is her name?"

"Sophia."

Lane kept his head down. "I am truly sorry about this. I didn't think they would follow her just like that; after what happened, everybody else was on board with making changes. They all agreed that it would be best if we do not cross the wrong people ever again. Some of them even became your fans Sumire-san, so with such a harmonious atmosphere, why would I suspect anything?"

"This is what makes you naive. I already told you back then; it is easy for people to betray each other. Do you truly believe just because you have spent so much time with them, they won't turn their back against you? The moment something better appears, the moment somebody with better qualifications, people tend to flock to them because you no longer have the power you once had."

"That is-"

"I already knew when I saw them with you years ago. The reason those people flocked to you was only because of your position. Whenever you weren't looking, they would look at you with disgusted eyes. It is a shame; people only reveal their true colors after you lose everything."

".."

"This is how the world works. I am not saying you have to be cautious about every single person out there, and sometimes it is difficult to catch. There are some great actresses/actors out there. Sophia most likely put on a flawless act too. As a young and promising officer, you wouldn't have expected how dark her heart was.. But even then, after what happened last time, it shouldn't have been that easy for them to trick you."
