Chapter 33 - Truth mixed with lies

"A piano?"

Lila could not miss the gentle expression that appeared on his face when they entered the dining room. "Mm, the others encourage me to play sometimes. But I can't risk it."

She figured out a long time ago that her music isn't normal. There is some strange light whenever she plays or sings. At first, Lila ignored it, but gradually, more people began to notice. They live in a world now where people acknowledge the existence of hanyous; this is thanks to the previous generation. But recently, people have learned more about those with superpowers.

One of the first news that came out when the patch up government made the quarantine zones was regarding her.

Somebody pointed out how whenever she sang; there was a strange glow. Some crazy rumors stemmed from that comment that she used her powers to improve her singing. Indeed she understood where they came from. There was a time where her voice was merely average, so their concerns are only normal.

Her thoughts broke off when Kiryu sat down and placed his finger on one of the keys. He glances over at her and smiles. "Maybe I should play for you?"

Unconsciously her eyes brightened at that comment, and she felt her heartbeat speed up. He suddenly laughs, and Lila knew he caught her expression. "That's not it!"

"Well, it's the usual."

"This room isn't soundproof."

"Were in an alternative dimension, I don't think anybody from the outside will hear." Kiryu trails off. "But if your that concerned, I will only play a little."

Lila hesitantly nodded. The truth is? The truth is she is afraid to hear him play again. The last time she heard Kiryu properly play the piano, she felt how strong his feelings for her were. She no longer wants to-- Lila glances over and notices Kiryu looking at her.

"Cmere Lila."

She somehow managed to walk over when he was a few steps away. Kiryu grabbed hold of her arm and pulled her toward him until she sat on his ŀȧp.

"Now then, I guess I can play better."

"Is that so?"

Kiryu did not answer her and return to the piano. He took a deep breath before he began to play. A familiar melody fills the room, and she sighs again. "This is my favourite song."

"I know."

"I think you behaved foolishly," Lila admitted. She has wanted to say this to him since he said those words to her the other day. How could he say something like that toward somebody like her? Towards the person who abandoned him once before.

Kiryu was the one who let go of her hand, but she did not try hard enough to get back to him.

"Well, foolish behavior aside. After what you saw the other day, what do you think?"

"People are willingly taking the drugs now. The people in there can act freely like that because they have consented to Zane's experiment."

Kiryu nodded. "Correct." He trailed off and sighed. "The people there have no idea though what they agreed to. They may think they do, but until they have experienced the drugs' side effects until they feel that heart-clenching sensation they won't know."

"Was it painful for you?" Lila noticed the pain behind those words.

"It was," Kiryu admitted. "But I got off easier. They simply wanted me to take enough to trigger a permanent change."

"It isn't as bad as you think." Lila extended her hand out and ċȧrėssed his cheek. "I think red rubies suit you."

By red rubies, she was talking about his eyes. A bloodshot red? No to her Kiryus eyes during his hanyou state reminded her of gorgeous red rubies.

"Why does that feel like a pickup line?"

She rolls her eyes at this comment. "Trust me, if I wanted to flirt, the last thing I would do is compliment your eyes."

If she were with Haruka, yes, but not with Kiryu, it is different with him. To think only a year has passed where she desperately tried to make him look past treating her like a sister. Then again, he never did properly treat her like a sibling. Kiryu was there for her when her father wasn't, and her mother disappeared. He treated her like family, but at the same time, Lila understood. There was always something different about his behavior towards her.

When they entered high school, she finally had enough; she wanted to confirm his feelings.

Her thoughts broke off when Kiryu suddenly stopped playing. A dark gaze appeared on his face. "Kiryu?"

"I don't understand, Lila. Why would anybody choose this life? Its not just humans evolving and gaining powers. When they captured me, I saw something, and some people chose to be hanyous. This stained blood destiny, this curse. It does not make sense to me."

Why would anybody choose this fate, huh? Indeed, she does not understand it either. Unlike Kiryu, she has yet to meet those people. But if

she did? She may react in the same way as him. The pain in his voice and the sorrow, she could sense it clearly.

Lila turned around and wrapped her arms around his neck. He seemed slimmer these days but not bony; he seemed sick somehow. 2Ive always thought your blood was the sweetest."

Kiryu laughs weakly. "Now, are you flirting? Please say yes, even if it is a lie."

But they both know the moment she does that; then something would break again, something important. Right now, during these turbulent times, that is the last thing they need.

"When Haruka comes, will you leave again?"

"Yeah. I need to make sure your safely in his arms before I do something careless again." Kiryu joked. But they both knew he was serious.

This is the reason why she stopped her husband from coming here. Yes, the one who blocked Harukas way was her. Little does he know or anybody else, but she planned it all. It was the only way for her to lure Kiryu out. At the start, it was indeed difficult for him to come here. But at some point, the remnants of the government lifted the restrictions.

She stood in his way, knowing that Kiryu would not appear before her if Haruka were here. He would ȧssume she was safe and go off to do something careless. It was risky, but he indeed appeared before her.

If Kiryu were to find out the truth, what would he think?

There are truths mixed in lies, but even then, like her mother said before.

People hate liars, and yet many people like them too. They lie and play with a person's emotions, its human nature.. But liars lose nothing since nothing they say is real; they had nothing, to begin with.
