Chapter 75: The Peach Blossom Lady

“…Don’t you think there could be danger?”

Allan stopped eating his favorite fried chicken skin and turned to look at Elias.

“The duke isn’t stupid enough to make such a mistake. His Majesty was also involved. Speaking of Duke Enroth’s son, he’s Viola’s older brother and already of age. He should know what he’s doing, so he must not be so foolish as to do something as revenge for his sister.”

She didn’t know what their agreement was, but since Elias had said so, it must mean that revenge was out of the picture.

“I can rest easy then.”

Since he didn’t seem to have any harmful intentions towards her, Nora could continue working at the royal castle without any worries.

Feeling relieved that her worries had been resolved, Nora quenched her thirst with a glass of apple juice.

Nothing’s better than a refreshing drink after work.

However, Elias’s expression remained cloudy.

“What’s wrong? There’s no more danger, right?”

“In a different sense, there actually is.”

“Huh?”

“Err…”

Nora tilted her head in confusion, but Allan nodded as though he understood.

“You were singing to the servants at the backyard of the royal castle, weren’t you? If he went there after getting wind of it, then it must mean he came to see you on purpose.”

“Wasn’t it just a coincidence?”

Although it wasn’t widely publicized, the fact that so many people showed up meant that it must have been talked about among the servants one way or another. If so, they must’ve simply chanced upon it.

“Nora’s identity isn’t a secret. He said he came to see the ‘Azure Nightingale’. A duke’s son even went to the trouble of showing up where many servants had gathered. Even if he’s a fan of Nora’s, don’t you think he’s much too devoted?”

“Well, I suppose so…”

The backyard was indeed primarily a place where the castle servants take a break and temporarily store their belongings.

If he came specifically to see Nora perform, then he must be such an avid fan.

However, they didn’t have any proof so it was merely a conjecture at best.

""

Nora finished munching on her bread without worries, but next to her, Elias let out a small sigh.

“Didn’t you say that you’ve been receiving quite a lot of peach blossoms as of late? Those were most likely from Duke Enroth’s son.”

“What? How did you know that?”

“It was on the card, remember? Sven. The name of Duke Enroth’s son is Sven Enroth.”

Now that he mentioned it, I vaguely remember such a name written on it.

But, although that name wasn’t rare, how can he be so sure of that?

“I’ve mentioned before that peach blossoms are quite expensive and hard to procure, remember? But if it’s Duke Enroth’s son, then that wouldn’t be hard for him. And the handwriting on the card was totally his. Considering he wrote it himself, I don’t think it’s merely a young master’s whim.”

“How would you know his handwriting?”

“I took the card, didn’t I? All I had to do was compare it against the documents in the royal castle. He occasionally assists Duke Enroth and acts as a scribe at the parliament.”

Can one easily see the documents in the royal castle? And can one easily recognize another’s handwriting by simply comparing it against some documents?

Nora had so many questions, but although it felt unsettling, she couldn’t stop listening.

“It’s been quite a while… Hearing of Elias’ stalker-like information network…”

""

She said it in a slight drawl, and Allan burst into laughter.

“I’ll take that as a compliment.” Elias, with his sky blue eyes, smiled back at her and Nora didn’t feel like commenting further.

“Come to think of it, he said something similar in the card.”

“What?”

“‘The beautiful Azure Nightingale. The Prunus persica Lady,’ he said.”

Elias immediately stared at her.

“I knew it. ‘Prunus persica’ is another name for peaches. He was certainly implying that he gave those peach blossoms to you, Nora.”

“Is that so?” Hearing that, Nora couldn’t help but blink in surprise.

She ought to say it was lovely to know or something, but Nora’s real impression was that it was nothing but troublesome.

“The person herself is totally oblivious, huh.” Allan laughed as he passed on the glass to Elias.

“In any case, it was probably intended for me.” Elias took a shot of his drink before putting his glass down.

“The only peach blossoms you can get in the royal capital during this season are from the territory of Marquis Callum. He’s probably challenging me. How brave of him.”

Elias smiled, exuding off a strange sex appeal tinged with danger.

“Whoa, I don’t want to get entangled with that.” Allan exaggeratedly shook his head, seeing the meaningful smile of his twin.

Nora completely agreed with him, but as much as she wanted to move on from the topic, she still had something to ask.

“I… brought the peach jam. Do you still want it?”

Considering their discussion just now, he might not want to eat the jam made from the flowers given by Sven. But she had already promised to make one for him, so she couldn’t just take it back home without asking him.

It’s best to let him decide. If he were to say he didn’t want it anymore, Nora would just bring it back home and eat it herself.

“Of course! I’ll take it with gratitude.”

Feeling relieved, she handed the jar to Elias, who flashed her a carefree yet dazzling smile.

This smile feels safer than the dark smile earlier.

It was a little too dazzling for her eyes and psyche, but it was still better than feeling scared.

Nora didn’t know whether he could read her thoughts but his sky blue eyes narrowed gently.

“Your dress will be made tomorrow, Nora. I’m looking forward to it.”

I take it back.

I’ll suffer even more after being exhausted.

If only you could have average looks and smile.

Nora hung her head down and let out a sigh.
