Chapter 74: Greeted by the Duke’s Son

“I thought you were done for when the Head Maid took you away, but you’re so lucky to be taken to Lady Andrea.” Paula heaved a sigh as she watched the servants who had gathered in the backyard.

“After that though, I had a hard time because I was scolded for not taking you to Lady Andrea’s sooner.”

“Oh, I’m sorry…”

Speaking of which, Nora felt like Paula was partly responsible for it as she had assigned work to Nora outside of her duties. However, when Paula asked her if she wanted to go to Lady Andrea, she didn’t go after all, so perhaps she was partly to blame as well.

“They also found out how I had stupidly harrassed you. They knew every little detail. They knew everything to such a horrifying degree.”

“Really?”

Nora never complained to anyone, but the other servants had witnessed what happened so perhaps one of them must have informed the Head Maid?

“I knew I was wrong, all right? But what’s with that report? It was horrifyingly detailed!”

“There was a report?”

Such a formal and cumbersome thing, who would do something so troublesome?

“Because of that, I was reprimanded, my pay got cut, and my dream of serving Lady Melnes is now even farther from happening… I feel so sad.” Paula dropped her shoulders with a deep sigh, but then immediately raised her face.

“But what’s done is done. I’ll just try my best again. In the meantime, please cheer me up with your performance.”

As Paula mentioned, they were having a mini backyard concert authorized by Andrea today. There was of course no accompaniment, and since they were all on break, they only had enough time for two songs. Even so, quite a number of servants have gathered in the area, and Nora marveled at how news traveled so fast.

“Well then, it’s time to sing.”

In any case, Nora loved to sing. She took a deep breath and joined the crowd.

After singing two songs, the crowd immediately dispersed and all the servants hurriedly returned to their posts.

Most people had already gone, but she suddenly heard the sound of applause from behind her.

When she looked back, she saw a young man with crimson hair and orange eyes.

She felt like she’d seen him somewhere before, but perhaps it was only because she’s been acquainted with mostly good-looking men and women lately.

Judging from his well-tailored suit, he seems to be a nobility but for what reason could he possibly be here?

He might have been listening to her performance because he was clapping, but beyond that, there should be no more involvement. Nora bowed her head and turned on her heels to leave.

“You must be the Azure Nightingale, I presume?”

Nora was working as a servant in the castle, so she couldn’t just ignore him, especially since he, a man of higher status, had specifically called out to her. She turned around and gave him a smile, even though she found it bothersome.

“I’m a fan of yours. What a wonderful surprise to have heard you sing in this place.”

“Thank you.” She bowed her head, but in her mind, she thought he was just exaggerating.

There was an increase in the aristocratic patrons at their restaurant, so Nora thought that he might be one of them, or that he might have watched her perform at the founding ball.

She thought he’d say something before walking away but the young man simply continued to stare at Nora. The strong gaze from his orange eyes made her feel uncomfortable, but she couldn’t just ignore him so she waited patiently.

“The beautiful Azure Nightingale. The Prunus persica Lady. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”

Before she realized that the young man had gotten closer, he had already taken her hand and dropped a kiss on the back of her hand. She was so startled that she almost shook his hand off rudely.

Since he called her the “Azure Nightingale”, he must be aware that she was a noble. If so, she shouldn’t overreact because it was a common gesture for aristocrats.

She might have been rational but she wasn’t used to it so her heart was beating faster.

Seeing Nora stiffen without a word, the young man narrowed his orange eyes and smiled.

“I hope we meet again.”

As she stared at the back of the man as he was leaving, Nora let out a deep sigh.

I can’t be sure, but it was probably just a greeting.

Good-looking people, like Elias in particular, have such overpowering beauty. I hope they become more mindful of it and maintain an appropriate distance with me.

Feeling exhausted, she dropped her shoulders, but Paula came running up to her out of nowhere.

“Wait, Nora! Do you know the duke’s son?” Looking quite excited, Paula asked her, whose eyes were fixated in the direction the young man left.

“You mean the person just now?”

He certainly looked like a high ranking aristocrat from his attire and demeanor, but he was a duke’s son?

“Yes, the son of Duke Enroth. He’s nice, isn’t he? And his crimson hair is just mesmerizing.” Paula looked utterly enchanted by him, whereas Nora wrinkled her eyebrows in confusion.

If it’s Duke Enroth’s son, then isn’t he Viola Enroth’s brother?

Viola had tried to poison Nora out of his love for Elias, so he might have approached her as revenge for his sister. But their father, Duke Enroth had already apologized to Nora and even cooperated with Elias when they dealt with Duke Lindell.

Nothing’s for certain, but I suppose I should inform Elias about this?

Or perhaps I shouldn’t as it’ll only worry him… The man didn’t do anything in particular after all. He only praised my singing.

…No. I better tell him. Or else I might regret not telling him about it.

He must have only heard of the Azure Nightingale because of what happened with Viola, or perhaps have seen her perform at the founding ball, so he approached her as courtesy.

He had good looks and was also the duke’s son, so he probably doesn’t have spare time to bother with Nora.

Elias would probably just laugh it off and simply regard it as her being too self-conscious.

After reaching that conclusion, Nora felt invigorated and resumed her work, all while avoiding Paula who was bombarding her with her impassioned speech.
