4. Fake Rose on Battlefield

Translator: Antonia

Coming out of the Empress’s palace, Du Chuxuan pulled Yuxing Tianrui to ask about going to war. Upon touching his sleeve, his hand was patted off, and the pale wrist instantly turned red.

“Girl. Don’t push me. I’m warning you. Please keep a distance from me! Your means are nothing but ridiculous and funny tricks to me!”

Du Chuxuan, “…” Angry, but still have to keep smiling.

“Your Highness, I just want to ask about the war.”

“See? Your fox tail is out! I won’t give you the opportunity to share hardship together! Later, I’ll tell mother that you’re unwell and must rest in my palace!”

Hearing the words, Du Chuxuan was relieved but pretended to be regretful, sighing heavily, “What a pity! Then, Your Highness, pardon me that I have to go first.”

Du Chuxuan feared any change in the situation and immediately turned and left. Seeing his swift leaving, Yuxing Tianrui became suspicious.

“Stop!”

Du Chuxuan felt a shock of shiver in his scalp and smelled a rat.

“Do you think I will give you the chance to make troubles out of my sight? No way! You’ll go to war together with me!”

The Prince’s heart is truly as deep as sea.

Du Chuxuan was now a little indignant, “Your Highness! Even if I’m a stand-in, I’m not a bad person. Why are you so guarded against me? I just want to keep a low profile and live a normal life!”

At this point, Yuxing Tianrui seemed to think of something else, and his ears somehow flushed, but his face remained cold and domineering, “If you behaved yourself, how could you…with me when I was drunk? Never mind! I don’t want to argue with you. If you want to live a normal life, then you should follow me to the battlefield as every crown princess did. Don’t be a different one!”

Finishing that, Yuxing Tianrui waved his sleeve and walked away, leaving Du Chuxuan almost crying on the spot.

Maybe also because of this quarrel, Yuxing Tianrui accommodated Du Chuxuan in the palace opposite his own, for better surveillance.

Du Chuxuan asked for a bunch of books on the etiquette and history of Shenglan and was shocked to find out that all crown princes had gone to war often before they became emperors while the crown princesses all followed around, some of whom even actually fought on the battlefield.

The Du family was merely of merchant origin with half of the country’s wealth. Du Chuxuan wasn’t a fan of learning since childhood and got a headache every time he saw a book. All the etiquette and history lessons had been slept away, and most of his accompanies were rough folks and prostitutes.

He had never noticed that there were many female generals in the history, and one of them as even an imperial concubine!

Du Chuxuan knew the country was quite open but didn’t know it was so open.

If Du Chuyue was in this position, this stubborn and violent girl must be overexcited. There were people who were weak but bold, such as Du Chuyue, such as the paranoia Yuxing Tianrui.

But to Du Chuxuan, who believed in peace and disliked violence or weapons, this was annoying.

His martial arts teacher had once said, by Du Chuxuan’s gift, he could become the best martial artist in the world, if he wanted. However, he didn’t have the fighting spirit. Sometimes, he would rather be beaten up than fight back, to avoid further troubles.

But at this point, except cursing inwardly his irresponsible sister, Du Chuxuan had no other choice.

Du Chuxuan packed up loads of things that could be used for escaping but still trembled from fear. He even wanted to get a tattoo saying “Hero, Spare My Life” on his back.

After all, Yuxing Tianrui looked so unreliable.

Days fleeted by. Du Chuxuan was peeled off the soft quilts and tucked into the carriage heading for the battlefield. He lifted up the curtain to look out. Yuxing Tianrui in military suit looked handsome and heroic, and his foolish sweet face usually pretending to be cool now displayed solemnity.

Wow. He looked quite like that.

Seeing Du Chuxuan was peeking around, Yuxing Tianrui gave him a fierce glare, not knowing that his expression resembled that of a squinting husky.

Du Chuxuan couldn’t help it and tittered, which made Yuxing Tianrui stunned and turned away his head unnaturally.

Hem. Trying to seduce me in public? Truly a bad woman!

The army traveled for half a month before arriving at the border. Yuxing Tianrui had two purposes, to deter the Turks and to expand the territory. He wasn’t in a hurry to launch a battle and just ordered the army to camp and rest first.

Yuxing Tianrui carefully deduced and rehearsed on map, and his close guard ran over, “Your Highness, is Her Highness having an independent tent or sharing a tent with you?”

Yuxing Tianrui had planned to avoid her but feared there would be gossips and unnecessary attention, “Sharing a tent with me.”

This was a pain for Du Chuxuan. Although Yuxing Tianrui didn’t intend to touch him and the two slept on each side of the bed, it was summer, and he wore the cotton pads every day and had to put on makeup from time to time, in case that Yuxing Tianrui came in at any time and saw his ghost-like messy face.

Originally, when they didn’t sleep together, he could at least relax himself at night. But since they lived in the same tent, he couldn’t take the cotton pads off even during sleep.

Heat rash began to grow in Du Chuxuan’s chest and was unbearably itching. On the third day, he finally decided to do himself a favor.

Every day, Yuxing Tianrui discussed military affairs with several generals at a fixed time. Du Chuxuan calculated the time and as soon as Yuxing Tianrui left, he immediately took off the fake breasts and gave himself a moment off.

Du Chuxuan’s skin was pale, making the spotty red even more conspicuous. He heavy-handedly scratched, and instantly, there appeared on his chest blood scars like those made by whipping.

Yuxing Tianrui walked out of the tent and suddenly had a new idea. The map he needed was in the tent. Since others didn’t know where he put it, he paced back to get it personally.

He lifted the door curtain, and what greeted his eyes were Du Chuxuan’s pale and red and…flat breasts.

Yuxing Tianrui, “…”

Du Chuxuan, “…” Dear heaven. I wanna die. I don’t want to live anymore!!!

“I remember, on our wedding day, your breasts were strange…” Yuxing Tianrui looked at a loss, as if his outlook on the world was refreshing and restarting.

You were the one who dragged those off and slept sweetly holding those in your arms. Now you say they’re strange! This is man!!

Since the second-growth worked, Du Chuxuan decided to give it a go.

“Your Highness! I have smaller breasts since I was young. I feel so ashamed of myself. But in order to uphold the dignity of the Crown Princess and Your Highness, I have to do this! I… I’m already your woman. Please don’t hate me for that, Your Highness, otherwise, I… I’ll feel too ashamed to live!”

Du Chuxuan covertly pinched himself in the thigh and managed to squeeze out a few tears, peeking poorly at Yuxing Tianrui.

Great. This silly boy looked both shocked and sympathetic. It worked.
