17. Request to Launch an Attack

Only rabbits eat greens, okay?! Du Chuxuan roared inwardly but remained a natural expression, “Not necessary. Tell the kitchen to pay attention. Now it’s summer, and dishes go sour faster. Don’t cook too much greens recently. We’re at war now, a small mistake will cause a big problem.”

The young guard took a glance at Du Chuxuan and nodded, feeling the princess’s words made so much sense. He had a roommate who had followed the Crown Princess back yesterday.

After he came back, he kept praising that the Princess cared about them very much. With this concept preoccupied his mind, the guard immediately believed that she was thinking on the soldiers’ behalf and became more joyful, “Don’t worry, I’ll pass your words down, your Highness.”

He turned to leave and suddenly turned back, scaring Du Chuxuan, who thought Yuxing Tianrui was back, “What’s wrong?”

The young soldier smiled shyly, “If I leave, there will be no guards here. If—” Before he finished, Du Chuxuan understood what he meant.

Funny. He was eligible to be an intimate guard of the Crown Prince. Why worry about his safety? Struggling to hold back the laugh, Du Chuxuan appeased this guard, who seemed to be cheated easily, “Don’t worry. I have only external injures. Besides, here is safe, and I can fight even if anything happened.”

The young guard instantly remembered how the Crown Princess had saved the Crown Prince. Her reaction had impressed him so much. He had seen everything clearly even at a distance. Therefore, he nodded and agreed at once, “Okay, wait a minute, your Highness. I’m bringing you new food.”

He ran away, glad that he got this chance to talk with her Highness.

Du Chuxuan was more delighted than him, as if he could already see meat floating before his eyes. The lust for meat even deprived him of speech.

Everything happened so secretly.

When Yuxing Tianrui came back, he was amazed to see Du Chuxuan not showing ill temper. He had a hunch that something he didn’t know must have happened.

However, everyone he asked claimed that her Highness didn’t get out of the tent. Therefore, he could only suppress his suspicion down.

Yet, unexpectedly, his behavior led all the generals or soldiers in the barracks into believing that his Highness was so in deep love with her Highness that he even didn’t like others to see her. Hadn’t it been that his Highness had to go to battlefield himself, he wouldn’t have made her his intimate guard. They were afraid it was hard to tell who would protect whom by then.

Du Chuxuan, uninformed in the tent, knew nothing about these rumors. If he did, he would jump up in anger and curse: You stupid rough men! Are your eyes mere decorations? He and Yuxing Tianrui wasn’t even respectful to each other. Based on what did they come to the conclusion that they were in deep love?!

Many days passed in a blink. Now the armies of both sides remained motionless. Ever since the unsuccessful sneak attack, the Turks were completely quiet.

Obviously, this was a good time to launch an attack back. Many generals had advised and suggested they were willing to lead troops over and test out. On the battlefield, this was actually an opportunity to make a great military feat.

At the moment, the Turks were somehow in low morale, and the key to victory resided in fighting along with the momentum which would vanish quickly. The morale of the enemies was getting lower and lower, so probably, if this chance was seized, they could wipe out the Turks at one fling. Who wouldn’t want this great achievement?

However, their repeated requests were turned down by Yuxing Tianrui, without explanations. Over a few days, the barracks of Shenglan Army were eager to take action.

“What do you think is his Highness’s plan? What is he waiting for in the face of such a good opportunity? Will the Turks give in without a battle?” A general sat on a stool, careless, dissatisfied.

Just now, he had made the proposition to Yuxing Tianrui but was turned down again. This was his third request!

Sitting next to him was a deputy general, who glanced from right to left before saying in a low voice, “Is his Highness too intimidated to go to the battlefield?”

This opinion spread fast among the soldiers. There wouldn’t have been this suspicion if their requests were rejected once or twice. However, at this point when the Turks almost recovered from the last setback, the opportunity was to be missed out if no actions were going to be taken.

The general was rendered in a daze for a second, slowly putting down the wine glass he was lifting up, “That’s possible. I heard Advisor Zhang said that they would have all finished there if the Crown Princess didn’t risk her life in saving them on that day. If a trauma was left in his Highness—”

It was true that when a simple-minded person believed in something, no force would pull him out of it. Now, this was the case for this general. On the one hand, he was really thinking for the sake of his country, and on the other hand, he was more longing for the military feat.

As a general, he knew more or less about the Dragon General. Although he wasn’t informed of the whole picture, he understood that this time, the Dragon General, his overbearing superior, would suffer a thorough downfall.

After that, one of the positions of Shenglan’s Four Generals became vacant. If he was able to assist the Crown Prince to crack down the Turks this time, the title of the Dragon General would very likely be his.

The deputy general just said it casually, with no idea of the complicated thoughts in the mind of the general, “General, I just guess randomly. There haven’t been cowards in Shenglan for many years. The words are improper if they are known by others.”

The general was short-tempered in nature and was angrier on hearing the word cowards, “What are you talking about?! How could Shenglan have a coward crown prince? I think the Crown Princess is a sensible person but she’s locked in the tent all day long. I guess I should test out her opinion.”

Evidently, the general couldn’t be talked out of the idea. The deputy general made a few attempts in dissuading him, not sincerely though. As long as the general calmed down, he would easily figure out the trap in the words of the deputy general. Yet, for the time being, he simply lacked the brain for it.

Hearing that a general requested to meet him, Du Chuxuan had a blank mind. He was able to beat up people, but he never went to war once.
