244. Don’t Be So Ignorant

Translator: Bryan

The one on the other end of the phone paused momentarily before he said firmly, “So we can’t rule out the possibility that those people were hired by the Song family. The mastermind is very likely Song Huaiqi.”

“Impossible.” Wei Qing shook his head. “Song Huaiqi will never send anybody to hurt Yan Chuyang. He has no reason to do that.”

“Then it must be Song Huaiqi’s mother, Li Hushan.”

Wei Qing’s pupils contracted. “Li Hushan?”

“Yes, the surveillance video shows Song Huaiqi’s mother, Li Hushan, arrived at Song Huaiqi’s mansion at 7 p.m. She stood outside the door for a long while, presumably eavesdropping on someone.”

Wei Qing felt his stomach clench. He pondered for a moment before saying, “I see. I know what to expect now. Thanks.”

“You don’t have to thank me. It’s what I do.”

Wei Qing expressed his gratitude and hung up.

Li Hushan.

That name sounded unfamiliar.

Given that even he didn’t know that woman, Yan Chuyang definitely didn’t know her either.

That woman didn’t know Yan Chuyang, and the two of them had no grudges against each other. Why had Li Hushan sent those men to beat Yan Chuyang? And those men’s methods had been quite cruel. They had even used a knife. Clearly that woman hated Yan Chuyang very much and wanted him to suffer.

A fierce look appeared in Wei Qing’s eyes at the thought of Yan Chuyang’s shoulder injury. He clenched his fists.

He thought darkly, “No matter what the reason is, she hurt Yan Chuyang, and I’ll make her rue the day she made that decision.”

Wei Qing didn’t dare linger outside for long. He made a few calls and arrangements before he hurried towards the ward.

Wei Qing couldn’t set his mind at ease when Yan Chuyang was alone in the ward.

But when he reached the door of the ward, Wei Qing slowed down to a halt.

Voices of a conversation came from the ward which had been quiet a few moments ago.

“It seems you’re recovering well,” Li Hushan snorted coldly, rearranging the white hair bun on the back of her head, carrying a big red handbag.

Yan Chuyang sat up in bed with his back against the headboard and smiled calmly, “You’re not bad either, madam. It’s been only a few hours, and yet you’ve already found out which hospital I’m in. I’m really impressed.”

Li Hushan’s face contorted with anger. “Don’t call me that! You’re in no position to address me like that! You’re a filthy gay who seduced my son!”

Yan Chuyang turned pale at her words and snorted through gritted teeth, “You’re old and a woman so I’ll let you get away with that. You’d better stop capitalizing on your old age! I don’t have unlimited endurance!”

“Ha!” Li Hushan sneered, “You don’t have unlimited endurance? Stop playing the victim, will you? You’re the shameless one, okay? You went to my son’s house in the middle of the night and tried to seduce him when he was drunk. Your actions were unbelievably despicable, and now you have the nerve to play the victim with me?”

“Are you soft in the head?” Yan Chuyang interrupted her, raising his voice, his brows knitted.

He was terrible at quarreling, especially when faced with a woman in her fifties or sixties. He couldn’t find any words to snap back.

“I’m going to say this one last time,” Yan Chuyang enunciated through clenched teeth. “There’s nothing going on between me and your son. Yes, I’m into men, but that doesn’t mean I have feelings for all men! Let me be honest with you. I have a marriage partner. In my eyes, he’s a hundred times more attractive than your son! No, a thousand times!”

Li Hushan’s face twisted with rage. She snorted coldly, “I knew you’d deny it! The likes of you have no shame whatsoever!”

Yan Chuyang speechlessly turned to look out of the window.

He had never seen anybody so unreasonable.

“I’ll be honest with you as well.” Li Hushan raised her voice and said, “My son is different from you. He’s meant for something great. He will not develop feelings for a man!” With that Li Hushan pulled a bank card from her handbag, put it on the night table beside the hospital bed and said coldly, “If you know what’s good for you, take the money and get your ass out of Song City, or you’ll be hospitalized again.”

Yan Chuyang’s heart lurched. He abruptly jerked his head around and, staring at Li Hushan, said, “I knew it. You were the one who sent those men to attack me last night.”

Though Yan Chuyang had been suspecting that she was the mastermind, he couldn’t say for sure. Apart from anything else, Li Hushan was an old woman. He had felt that she couldn’t be that callous.

Li Hushan snorted, lifted her chin haughtily and didn’t deny it. After a few moments’ silence, she said, “You’d better keep your mouth shut about it after taking the money. You’ve already been beaten once. You should know how painful it could be. I don’t want to have to send someone else to fix you.”

Yan Chuyang shook his head with a mirthless smile. “I took a cudgel stroke and received a stab. You think I’ll keep my mouth shut? You hired some men to assault me. It’s illegal. I’ll find a lawyer and sue you when I’m discharged from this hospital.”

“Huh,” Li Hushan sneered. “You’re so young and so ignorant. You really think someone like you stand a chance of defeating me?”

Yan Chuyang narrowed his eyes speechlessly. “Someone like me? You think you’re superior to me?”

Li Hushan squinted her eyes slightly and snorted arrogantly, “I’ve asked my son. You’re just a student, a callow youth. You have no powerful relatives. Your parents are gone, and you’re a disgusting homosexual. What makes you think you stand a chance against the Song family?”

The door was pushed open.

Standing outside the door with his hand in his pocket, Wei Qing snorted coldly, “An orphan is better than your son who has a shrew as a mother.”

Li Hushan’s heart jumped. She swiveled her head aside. It was only then that he saw the man standing outside the door, emanating a powerful brooding air.

“Mr. Wei?” Li Hushan’s face changed.

Although she didn’t run the company, she had attended all kinds of upper-class social gatherings with her husband and thus could recognize the big shots in the business world.

Her husband had always wanted to make Wei Qing’s acquaintance, but he hadn’t been able to find a chance to strike up a relationship with Wei Qing.

“Mr. Wei.” Li Hushan’s attitude changed drastically. Face full of wrinkles due to her beam, she walked over to Wei Qing, held out her hand and, raising her voice, said, “What a coincidence. I didn’t bargain on seeing you in a hospital. My husband keeps saying you always keep a low profile, and he hasn’t been able to find a chance to meet you. It never occurred to me…”
