242. I’ll Stay as Far Away From Him as Possible

As the tip of the wicked-looking dagger came at Yan Chuyang again, he quickly gripped his attacker’s wrist.

The tip of the knife stopped an inch away from Yan Chuyang’s eyes.

Teeth gritted, Yan Chuyang held the man’s arm at bay with all his might. He yelled in his mind, “Wei Qing! Wei Qing! Help me!”

A thud was heard. Yan Chuyang’s eyes abruptly widened as he felt a sharp pain in the shoulder.

One of the men lying on the ground had stood up and hit Yan Chuyang hard on the back with a cudgel.

The man with the dagger took the opportunity to push Yan Chuyang’s hand away and sank the dagger into Yan Chuyang’s shoulder.

Wei Qing got out of the car and stared at the icon of the location displayed on his phone. When he arrived wheezingly, he saw a scene that made his insides contract and shrivel.

Yan Chuyang had a dagger sticking in his shoulder, his eyes unfocused, a man with a cudgel standing behind him.

“AAAAAAARGH!” Wei Qing growled in fury and grief, sprinted up to Yan Chuyang and kicked over the men beside Yan Chuyang.

He was emanating a very brooding air and his daunting roar struck fear into the three men’s hearts.

Before they could react, Wei Qing picked up the cudgel from the ground and, eyes red, rained ferocious blows on them. The three men were rendered powerless to fight back.

The other two men were injured and no threat anymore. The one with a dagger, though a good fighter, was clearly no match for Wei Qing. Furthermore, Wei Qing had lost his marbles and was aiming to kill, so his every blow was ruthless.

After taking a few heavy blows of the cudgel, the three men were flattened. Lying on the ground, they kept groaning in pain.

Wei Qing was still attacking, kicking the man with a dagger in the belly frantically.

“Mmm… Wei Qing.” Yan Chuyang fought through the sharp pain in his shoulder to brace his hands against the ground. He struggled to his feet, walked to Wei Qing’s side unsteadily, bumped into Wei Qing’s chest and, holding Wei Qing’s arm, said weakly, “Stop, or you’ll kill them.”

Wei Qing hurriedly threw away the cudgel and held him in his arms. “Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”

“I know…” Yan Chuyang gritted his teeth and said with difficulty, “I’m not afraid.”

After saying that, Yan Chuyang blacked out and limply leaned onto Wei Qing’s shoulder.

It was already morning when Yan Chuyang came around. He was woken up by the pungent smell of disinfectant.

He stared at the white ceiling of the ward for a while, but he had been groggy for barely two minutes when the pain in his shoulder brought him back to his senses.

“Mmm…” Yan Chuyang frowned and groaned in pain.

On hearing the groan, Wei Qing who had been watching over him at the bedside quickly lifted his head. At the sight of Yan Chuyang’s open eyes, he nervously rose from his chair and threw back the quilt to check Yan Chuyang’s bandaged shoulder wound. Having noticed that no blood was oozing out of it, Wei Qing was slightly relieved and asked quietly, “How do you feel? Does it still ache badly?”

Feeling hard done by, Yan Chuyang asked with a frown, “They’ve bandaged my wound already, haven’t they? Why does it still hurt like hell? Wei Qing, did you forget to have the doctor give me a painkilling injection?”

Wei Qing smiled mirthlessly. Feeling a pang of heartache, he lowered his head to kiss Yan Chuyang’s quivering eyelashes and said, “You shouldn’t take a painkilling injection unless you have to. Just tough it out. I’ll stay here keeping you company, okay?”

Yan Chuyang inclined his head. “Okay.”

Wei Qing pulled the quilt over Yan Chuyang’s chest and sat back on the chair.

The ward was silent for two or three seconds.

“Uh…” Yan Chuyang pressed his lips together and then broke the silence. “Thank you for saving me.”

“You don’t have to thank me.”

“Are you hurt?”

“No.”

“How did you find me?”

“Didn’t you send me your location?”

“Oh.”

There was another few moments’ silence.

Wei Qing sat in the chair with his arms folded over his chest, staring unblinkingly at Yan Chuyang’s face from the side.

“Wei Qing.” After keeping silent for over ten minutes, Yan Chuyang finally found it unbearable. He piteously turned to look at Wei Qing’s calm face and said, “I’m in great pain. Can you give me a hug?”

“No,” Wei Qing replied blandly. “You have wounds in your back as well. Your pain will worsen if I touch any of them.”

“Well… then come over and give me a kiss.”

“No.”

“Why?”

“I don’t want to kiss you.”

The look in Yan Chuyang’s eyes flickered. With a hurt look on his face, he swiveled his head back and, pulling at the quilt, murmured, “Okay.”

Wei Qing had made up his mind to give Yan Chuyang the silent treatment, but at the sight of Yan Chuyang’s dejected face, Wei Qing’s heart softened and he failed to restrain himself, stooped down, pecked Yan Chuyang’s lips and said in a low voice, “Stop stirring. You’re covered with bruises. If you keep stirring, your pain will only get worse.”

Having perceived that Wei Qing’s tone of voice softened, Yan Chuyang felt slightly relieved. He meekly blinked his eyes and said, “Okay.”

Wei Qing straightened himself, sat on the chair and said lightly, “Now that I’ve kissed you, it’s time to talk about your issue.”

Yan Chuyang’s heart lurched. He instantly lowered his eyes in guilt and asked in an undertone, “My issue? What do you mean?”

“Why did you go to that intersection last night?”

“To send a friend home.”

“What kind of friend?”

“Just a friend, a classmate.”

“Yan Chuyang!” Wei Qing’s tone grew stern. “Tell me the truth.”

Yan Chuyang let out a sigh. After pondering for a few moments, he compressed his lips together and then said honestly, “I went to Song Huaiqi’s house.”

Wei Qing felt a twinge of intense jealousy and a jolt of overwhelming resentment, but he had to subdue it.

“Why did you go to his house?”

Yan Chuyang pressed his lips together again, thought for a while and replied frankly, “He got drunk in a bar and couldn’t drive, so I drove him home.”

“And then?”

“That’s all.” Yan Chuyang hastily raised his eyes and said, “I came out of his house immediately after taking him inside. We didn’t do anything. Don’t worry. I know I’m married to you, and I also know I shouldn’t maintain a close relationship with anybody else. I promise I’ll try my best to stay away from him, okay?”

Yan Chuyang really meant it.
