234. His Guardian Angel

Translator: Bryan

Yan Chuyang released his grip on Wei Qing’s collar, took a small step backwards, and exhaled deeply.

He swiveled his head around and said, “See? This is the evidence you guys want. Wei Qing won’t marry Shen Shimin because…” Yan Chuyang paused momentarily and then enunciated, “Because he’s married me already.”

The crisp sound of something hitting the ground rang out. The reporter in front slackened his hold on his camera unawares and it dropped to the ground.

Wei Qing licked the corner of his lips contentedly, staring unblinkingly at Yan Chuyang’s cheek from beside him.

Wei Qing thought, “He’s so good-looking.

He’s like a little angel.

A little guardian angel who protects only me. He belongs to me, and me alone.”

After a long awkward silence, the female reporter who had asked the most pointed questions just now said tentatively, “Mr. Wei, is this gentleman telling the truth?”

“I can’t believe this.” Yan Chuyang glared at her. “You still suspect I’m lying? If you are, I can take you people back home and show you our marriage license.”

For a moment the female reporter was at a loss for words. She kept silent, her face scarlet, but she was still holding the microphone under Wei Qing’s chin, her eyes fixed on Wei Qing.

She was waiting for a definite reply.

After two or three seconds of silence, Wei Qing turned to look at the reporters and smiled, “My marriage partner speaks on behalf of me. All he says is true. I’ll unconditionally comply with his every decision.”

Everybody present gasped in incredulity.

Yan Chuyang was also a little surprised. It had never crossed his mind that someday Wei Qing would acknowledge their relationship in front of the press without scruple. After all, there were so many reporters with cameras present. What they said today would spread throughout the whole Song City tomorrow.

He had blurted out those words a moment ago only because of his intense heartache. He had admitted it on impulse. The moment he had said those words, he wished he hadn’t, but Wei Qing…

“Are you tired?” Wei Qing drew Yan Chuyang into his embrace, lowered his hand and, stroking Yan Chuyang’s cheek, said, “You must be exhausted, seeing as how you’ve stood so long. You may go to my office and have some rest. I got this.”

Everyone’s eyes nearly popped out of their head.

They thought, ‘Is this a public display of affection? What the heck do they think they are doing? This is a public place. There are cameras rolling!

These two are… unbelievably shameless!’

“Hey…” A pink flush spread over Yan Chuyang’s ears and with that he broke free of Wei Qing’s embrace and hissed through gritted teeth, “Are you out of your mind?”

“I’m not,” Wei Qing said under his breath. “We’ve acknowledged our relationship already. What’s the point of pretending otherwise?”

The look in Wei Qing’s eyes flickered and he suddenly turned to face the cameras with his arm wrapped around Yan Chuyang’s waist. He said, “I didn’t mean to go public with this so soon, because although Chuyang and I have registered our marriage, we haven’t held a wedding yet. My original plan is to make an announcement on our wedding day, but this little interlude took me by surprise, and it never occurred to me my significant other would divulge the secret of our marriage. Now that he’s disclosed it, I’ll be honest with you guys about it.”

Holding Yan Chuyang’s hand tightly and facing the cameras, Wei Qing said in deadly earnest, “We’ve married each other.”

Yan Chuyang’s mind was in a whirl. He was so flustered that he didn’t know what to do.

He wondered, “Is it really okay to go public with it like this?”

He was still in shock when something equally astounding happened.

Wei Dongsheng suddenly came out of nowhere, squeezing his way through the crowd to the microphones. He said in a voice imbued with sentiment, “You guys might find my face more familiar. My son has been subjected to those unfavorable remarks in the past few years and it was solely because of me, an allegedly unfit father, but fortunately, my son’s a capable man. After striving for a long time, he finally managed to silence those who ridiculed him out of jealousy. I’m here only because I want to tell you guys I’m very pleased with Chuyang. They have my blessing.”

Yan Chuyang’s face slightly changed. Feeling a little touched, he looked at Wei Dongsheng and said, “Mr. Wei…”

Wei Dongsheng turned to Yan Chuyang, patted him on the shoulder and said earnestly, “Chuyang, you must make things work with Wei Qing. You two are the lucky ones. At least everything had gone smoothly before you two got married. My significant other and I didn’t have such luck. There were a lot of obstacles in our way. Remember, we’re on your side. You two have my and my partner’s blessings, along with the blessings from a lot of other people, so make it work, understand?”

Yan Chuyang felt a sting in his nose.

Never had anybody offered him blessings in such an earnest manner.

“I understand, Mr. Wei.”

Wei Dongsheng nodded and his eyes moved to Wei Qing. For the first time he said seriously, “Son, I give you my blessing.”

Wei Qing inclined his head in silence.

Wei Dongsheng smiled, wended his way through the crowd and left. Zhuo Zhanheng was still waiting for him outside.

Wei Dongsheng felt that he wasn’t a responsible father. It could even be said that he didn’t count as a father.

He was too selfish. Actually, when he thought about it carefully, he was responsible for most of the hardships that his son Wei Qing had suffered.

But thankfully, his son had grown into an outstanding and reliable man.

His son had toughed it out and gotten everything he wanted.

Wei Dongsheng felt that he didn’t need to worry about his son.

When Wei Dongsheng came out, Zhuo Zhanheng was waiting outside the hall, jacket in hand.

At the sight of Wei Dongsheng, Zhou Zhanheng waved at him.

Wei Dongsheng walked over step by step.

Zhuo Zhanheng handed him the jacket and asked in a low voice, “How did it go?”

Wei Dongsheng nodded. “It went very well. My son’s very brave.”

Zhuo Zhanheng snorted, “Are you satisfied now?”

Wei Dongsheng sighed, wrapped his arm around Zhou Zhanheng’s waist and, resting his cheek on Zhou Zhanheng’s shoulder, replied, “Yes.”

He had always wanted to raise his son into a man who would be the one on top when in bed.

Now his little wish had finally come true.

The interview in the banquet hall was still ongoing, but Wei Qing knew that Yan Chuyang was unaccustomed to being questioned amid flashes, so Wei Qing had his assistant take Yan Chuyang somewhere else to let him rest. Wei Qing stayed to handle the reporters alone.

Actually, all the questions from the reporters were about a few things.

They wanted to know how Wei Qing and Yan Chuyang had met each other, when they had registered their marriage, what they planned on doing in the near future, when they would hold a wedding, etc.

Wei Qing answered those questions one by one.
