Chapter 275: The Bogus

It could be seen that those two hefty men were utterly shocked as they opened their mouth wide there when they witnessed that Wu Dahu drank all the hogwash-like food without hesitation.

They did nothing but exchanged their glances with each other, and then commenced troubling Wu Dahu and Song Qinghan by probing other possibilities.

“Hey, no one allows you to drink his soup, alright? Don’t you know that these are the kind benefaction from Lord Xiaoyan for both of you? Or do you intend to disobey?”

Wu Dahu put down the empty bowl and answered innocently, “Oh, sorry but is that a sin? It can’t satisfy my stomach for one bowl and besides, my husband doesn’t have an appetite to eat, so I just take two of them. Is there any problem with that?”

It was precisely because there was no problem that the two of the hefty men became irritable. After glaring at Wu Dahu, they turned and left the tent.

And after those men finally disappeared in sight, Song Qinghan looked at Wu Dahu with a sense of worry, and then reached out to knock on the empty bowl, “Are you really alright with that hogwash? You should tell me in time if you feel uncomfortable.”

Noticing the unease hidden in Song Qinghan’s eyes, Wu Dahu reached out abruptly to hold his hands, and then uttered in a slow manner, “I am totally fine, don’t you worry about me, alright? Everything goes fine with me as long as you are aside.”

Song Qinghan blushed as if he remembered the warmth from last night. He cleared his throat and coughed slightly so as to hide his embarrassment.

After they finished their daily routines treating those injured soldiers, Wu Dahu came to utter as he found that it was still early outside, “It’s time to go meet Xiaoyan now.”

For some reason, Song Qinghan could sense that Wu Dahu’s tone seemed to be quite serious when he said so, and it was somehow like the peacefulness before the arrival of a violent storm.

But he did not bother to ask further but nodded slightly and then followed Wu Dahu in behind and ‘marched’ towards the tent where Xiaoyan stayed.

The guard outside the tent seemed to be quite shocked when he noticed the appearances of the duo, and then he frowned and roared, “What are you doing here?”

Everyone, even the lowliest staff in this army camp, was aware of the fact that Xiaoyan had taken over Wu Dahu’s previous position. So what if Wu Dahu was someone who was insanely crazy and would do something harmful to Xiaoyan?

Song Qinghan recognized this guard and was quite familiar with him because they had once become friends when he was still responsible for cleaning the chamber pot. He never expected that when they met again they were already strangers to each other.

On the other side, Wu Dahu wasn’t mad at all to the man who was showing his vigilant attitude, and he uttered peacefully, “We are here to show our sincere gratitude to Lord Xiaoyan because he saved us when we were in the barbarian territory, would you please do us a favor to get him inform about the arrival of us?”

The guard glanced at the duo dubiously, and he hesitated for a brief moment but nodded at the end, “Alright, but you guys should stay here and I will go in to ask for the feedback of Lord Xiaoyan.”

He then entered the tent and came out after a short while, unveiling the curtain of the tent peacefully, and then uttered in a deep voice, “Lord Xiaoyan allows you to come in.”

Everything went smooth as they were about to enter the tent, just at the moment Wu Dahu passed him by side, he threatened menacingly, “If you dare to make any moves…”

Upon hearing the words the guard uttered, Song Qinghan broke in before Wu Dahu spoke, “Do you really think that we are that confident to risk ourselves to make something evil since, I am pregnant?”

The guard then lowered his head to glance at Song Qinghan’s belly subconsciously, and then he became quite speechless at the moment he noticed the bugling belly Song Qinghan was carrying.

Xiaoyan, however, came out of the tent himself directly as he found that the duo was still stuck outside. And when he greeted them there, he uttered guiltily, “I failed to figure out what they were thinking about and they are now totally out of my control, I didn’t even know why they would get me such a position…”

Noticing that Xiaoyan was still acting respectfully like he was still his subordinate, Wu Dahu waved his hand and stood there in the centre, “I am no more than an ordinary and lowly soldier right now who is now bearing a crime. It is already a fortune for me that you don’t blame me for not paying salute to you. Please don’t treat me like before.”

Upon hearing that, Xiaoyan seemed to be a bit disappointed on face, and he sighed, “Alas, I just knew it. Those people are totally with evil intentions and made everything as a scheme purposely. I never understand why I was promoted, but you, Lord Wu…”

After the complaints, he took a sudden pause as if something suddenly occurred to him in his mind, and then he reached out to take out a roll of folded rice paper from his side pocket. He glanced around meticulously as if to see whether there was someone else eavesdropping, and then delivered the paper to Wu Dahu, while uttering in a low voice, “Lord Wu, I have written every single name of those suspicious people in this paper these days. And they are all those who seem to obtain power here and who bluff and bluster. Don’t you suspect that there are spies among us? This list of name might be helpful for your investigation.”

Wu Dahu reached out to take over the paper, and he took a quick glance on the name written on it. But then he delivered it back to Xiaoyan, while answering, “Since it’s your credit to find this suspicious people, then you should investigate by yourself. I am just no more than an ordinary soldier here.”

Xiaoyan was utterly shocked, put away the paper hesitantly, and tried to persuade, “Lord Wu, you don’t have to worry. I believe that the Commander General will surely help you regain your fame and take down the stigma. And I heard that Mork is now preparing a big-scale attack, so I might believe that this will be a great chance for you to show your loyalty?”

Wu Dahu still remain his emotionlessness on face, and he shook his head, “I definitely know that the Commander General is powerful enough to get something changed, but, he is still a person with sole power and he can’t ignore the suggestions of the rest of the commanders or soldiers. Anyway, it is fine for me though because I am quite good living with those injured soldiers.”

Upon hearing the statement of Wu Dahu who seemed to have no more desire to resist against the fact, Xiaoyan was even more anxious than the duo. He couldn’t help but take a few steps forward, and then whispered, “This upcoming combat will be detrimental to our side if you are not going to lead the troop, Lord Wu, please think about the country, and the people we are protecting. You have to fight!”

While Xiaoyan and Wu Dahu were talking, Song Qinghan was observing everything displayed within Xiaoyan’s tent. And then he suddenly broke in, “Xiaoyan, which camp you belonged to before? Do you mind me asking?”

Xiaoyan paused all of a sudden, and then he came to answer awkwardly with a stiff smile on his face, “Camp One, Mistress, what’s your purpose of asking so?”

Song Qinghan shook his head and said with a queer expression, “It is odd because the soldiers in Camp One confessed to us that they never met you before. I am just a bit curious. Wu Dahu has lost his memories after all, so I have to ask you.”

Upon hearing the answer, Xiaoyan scratched himself on the head, and then uttered in confusion, “Why did they say so? Probably I was kind of invisible since I was not that talkative, so they have forgotten me.”

After his statement, an embarrassing silence suddenly fell on the tent.

And just at the moment Xiaoyan intended to change the topic, Song Qinghan suddenly opened his mouth and said, “Is it feasible for you to take off your upper cloth? And let me check out the injuries on your body and see if it is recovered.”

Xiaoyan suddenly frozen, and then he withdrew his expression on face slowly, and then answered in a low voice, “I don’t think it is a good idea, Mistress. I am almost recovered now, so I won’t bother to trouble you.”

Song Qinghan insisted, “Well, it is good to hear that you’re almost recovered. Yet as long as you are not completely cured, the injuries still have a tendency to exacerbate. Let me check it out, Wu Dahu won’t criticize.”

Xiaoyan turned his head to Wu Dahu with an eagerness of pleading in his eyes. However, Wu Dahu nodded to Song Qinghan as if he never saw how desperate Xiaoyan was now. “Alright, I won’t criticize anything, let him check it out, I do worry about your health as well.”

Xiaoyan sighed reluctantly as he found the duo had put their gazes at him at the same time, and then he turned around showing his back, took off his upper cloth in a slow manner and exposed the injuries-laden body in front of Song Qinghan and Wu Dahu.

Song Qinghan closed his eyes, searching the image in his memories of the scene he probed in the mass grave.

He never memorized the characteristics of every patient he treated on purpose, but he memorized every single injury he had seen in his eyes. So he was confident to recognize his patients from their specific injuries.

A moment later, he suddenly opened his eyes and said with a stern expression, “YOU AREN”T XIAOYAN.”
