Liu Qingyan followed Lin You and went up to the third floor of the hospital. That was the Omega Pheromone Specialty Department. Unlike the crowded hospital lobby downstairs, there were fewer people there, and the atmosphere was relatively quiet. There was also a faint scent of strawberry pheromones in the air, which seemed to be coming from one of the rooms.

Liu Qingyan caught a whiff of it and frowned, feeling a bit repulsed for some reason. He felt that the scent of orchids in Lin You’s room was much more pleasant.

It was also Lin You’s first time there. Normally, as a Beta, he had no idea which way to go in the Omega Specialty Department. But now he was lying on a hospital bed, ready to be pushed into the room for a series of detailed examinations to confirm whether he had recently undergone Omega differentiation.

In his mind, he felt like it was simply a fantasy. The doctor must have made a mistake. Yet, at the same time, he couldn’t help but feel anxious, his gaze subconsciously searching for Liu Qingyan.

In that large hospital, Liu Qingyan was the only person he recognized.

He had grown up with Liu Qingyan, his best friend and brother.

Liu Qingyan didn’t have time to say much, so he could only squeeze Lin You’s hand. Lin You’s hand was also warm, and the scent of orchids on his body seemed even stronger. Even someone as slow as Liu Qingyan vaguely realized that it wasn’t the fragrance of orchid perfume, but Lin You’s pheromones.

Sweet and gentle, like a little hook that tickled the heart, completely different from Lin You’s fearless and bold personality.

“I’ll be waiting for you outside, don’t be afraid,” Liu Qingyan whispered.

Then he let go of Lin You’s hand and watched as he was pushed into the room for examination.

During the waiting process, Liu Qingyan sat alone in a chair outside.

It was his first time in the Omega Specialty Department, and he inexplicably felt a bit uneasy. After a while, a nurse came out of the room and saw Liu Qingyan sitting alone. She asked, “Are you Lin You’s brother? Have you informed your parents? This is a significant case related to gender differentiation, and it’s best for your parents to come.”

Only then did Liu Qingyan remember that he had forgotten to inform Lin You’s parents.

“I was busy and forgot. I’ll tell them right away,” Liu Qingyan smiled at the nurse, “But Lin You’s parents are currently on a business trip, and his older brother and sister are also studying in another city. They might not be able to make it in time. Can you tell me what’s going on?”

The nurse glanced at Liu Qingyan. That boy had a maturity and steadiness beyond his age, completely unlike a seventeen-year-old boy.

“We will definitely inform you of the examination results and any precautions,” the nurse said, curiously looking at Liu Qingyan, “By the way, you’re not Lin You’s biological brother, Are you?”

“I’m Lin You’s neighbor, and we’ve been together since we were young. You can consider me his brother,” Liu Qingyan casually replied, “We were even born in the same hospital and have never been separated since.”

He and Lin You were only four months apart. Lin You was placed in his baby crib shortly after birth, and they slept side by side, their heads touching. Later, from elementary school to middle school to high school, they were always in the same class, inseparable like real brothers, despite not being blood-related.

He had always thought of himself as a good beta brother.

But now, Lin You had suddenly turned into an Omega.

Lu Qingyan scratched his chin, feeling confused. Just a few days ago, he was discussing with Lin You which Omega in their grade was more attractive, and Lin You confidently said that he wanted a gentle and cute female Omega as his girlfriend.

Now it seemed like the Omega girlfriend was out of the picture.

After sitting for another five minutes, Lu Qingyan organized his thoughts and made a phone call to Lin You’s parents.

Lin You’s parents were high-level executives of a multinational company, busy throughout the year. Fortunately, they had a good relationship with Lu’s parents and were neighbors, so they entrusted Lin You’s care to Lu’s family for half of the time.

The call was quickly answered by Lin You’s mother, Jiang Nian, who understood immediately that it must be about her son when she saw it was Lu Qingyan calling.

“Qingyan, what’s wrong? Is something wrong with Xiao You?” Jiang Nian asked.

Lu Qingyan fell silent for a moment, unsure of how to begin.

“Auntie, Lin You just had a fever, and I brought him to the hospital,” Lu Qingyan glanced at the room where the examination was taking place, with Lin You still inside. “But the doctor said it might not be a fever, but a differentiation. He may not be a beta at all, but an Omega, only that the differentiation happened too late.”

Jiang Nian was stunned and speechless.

She was an Omega, and her husband was an Alpha. The chances of giving birth to an A or an O were higher, while the possibility of a beta was very low. So when Lin You was born, they were a bit surprised and considered it something out of the ordinary to have a beta baby.

But now, their beta son… could potentially have differentiated to an Omega?

“Qingyan, did the doctor confirm it through an examination? Is Lin You okay? Does his differentiation at seventeen have any impact on his overall health?” Jiang Nian composed herself and asked, concerned.

“Lin You is still undergoing the examination, but for now, he’s fine. Auntie, don’t worry. I’ll have my parents come over soon, so you and Uncle don’t need to rush back. I’ll inform you right away if anything happens.”

Lu Qingyan’s calm words reassured Jiang Nian to some extent.

Both she and Lin’s father were currently on a business trip, far away from home. Even if they rushed back, it would take them seven to eight hours.

“We’ll handle things here and come back immediately. Qingyan, I appreciate your help once again. I’ll call you and your parents later,” Jiang Nian said.

“Auntie, It’s okay. I’ll stay here with Lin You. If anything comes up, we’ll contact you,” Lu Qingyan replied and exchanged a few more words with Jiang Nian before hanging up.

He then called his own parents, explaining the situation and asking them to come over as soon as they had time.

After informing them, he sat back in his seat, like a sculpture, waiting for Lin You to come out.

The floor tiles in that hospital were a cold white color. Lu Qingyan looked down for a while, and he suddenly remembered that on the way up while carrying Lin You, the scent of orchids had been lingering in the air and even when Lin You went in for the examination, the faint fragrance still remained in the air.

Over an hour later, Lin You’s complete examination was finally finished.

He had already undergone emergency treatment, and the heat on his face had subsided. His complexion had become fair again, and there was a white sticker attached to the back of his neck. The scent of orchids on his body had reduced significantly. After changing into a hospital gown, which was too large for him, he looked even slimmer, obediently sitting on the bed, which made the nurse overflow with affection.

He listened in confusion as the doctor announced that he was indeed an omega, and a highly rare inducer-type pheromone.

Lin You turned his head and asked Lu Qingyan, ” Lu Qingyan, what is an inducer-type pheromone?”

Lu Qingyan was also puzzled, “How would I know?”

The two of them looked at the doctor together, their eyes shining with curiosity.

The doctor coughed and dutifully explained, “Your pheromone sequence number is H8901, which is a very powerful pheromone. But this also means that your pheromone has a strong attraction to alphas. Alphas will unconsciously want to be close to you and even want to mark you. This time you are actually lucky. You have only undergone differentiation, the concentration of your pheromones has increased, but it hasn’t reached the point of completely driving alphas crazy. If the differentiation period and heat period come together, it would be unimaginable.”

Lu Qingyan frowned as he listened, “What would happen during the heat period? I know that every omega’s heat period has an attraction to alphas.”

The doctor looked at him from behind his glasses, “Indeed, every omega has an attraction to alphas, but the attraction of the inducer type pheromone which is the one you have, is particularly strong. Even if alphas take suppressive drugs, they are likely to be stimulated by their primal instincts and become desperate to mark you. You are a beta, so you can sit calmly next to Lin You and protect him. If you were an alpha, you might have already been acting up.”

Lu Qingyan fell silent.

He was indeed a beta, which allowed him to sit peacefully beside Lin You, protecting him.

Lin You suddenly couldn’t accept the fact that he had become an omega. He looked at Lu Qingyan and then at the doctor, finally recalling the existence of “pheromone suppressor and barrier”.

“So, I just need to wear this barrier patch daily, or spray a barrier mist, right?” Lin You touched the small white square patch on the back of his neck, right where his glands were located, instantly weakening his orchid scent pheromones.

“In theory, yes, but I must remind you that barrier agents cannot completely block inducible pheromones. However, the remaining scent won’t affect your life. I suggest you always wear the barrier patch.” The doctor sincerely advised, “And then there’s the issue of the heat period. You know, most omegas have their first heat between 16 and 18, right?”

Lin You nodded in frustration.

He had no objections to being an omega.

But he had strong objections to the words “heat period,” and every time the doctor mentioned it, his expression twisted.

Without waiting for the doctor to speak, he raised his hand and asked, “Doctor, is there any way to avoid going into heat?”

The doctor glanced at him coldly. “Currently, besides removing the glands, we don’t have any other methods to prevent going into heat. There are only ways to suppress it, such as taking suppressants or being isolated in the hospital. With the high level of your pheromones, your first heat will be quite intense, and regular suppressants may not be as effective. So remember to come to the hospital.”

After listening to the doctor’s words, Lin You felt a chill run down his spine.

He leaned against Lu Qingyan and earnestly asked, “Lu Qingyan, what if I have my glands removed instead?”

Lu Qingyan pressed his head disdainfully. “Don’t even think about it. It might cause more harm than good.”

Lu Qingyan then looked at the doctor and asked, “Doctor, is there anything else we should be aware of? Any major health concerns?”

“Nothing else, he’s no different from other omegas. Lin You has a good physical condition. Since you’re classmates, you should keep an eye on him. He’s already seventeen, and the first heat will likely be soon. If it happens immediately, come to the hospital.” The doctor emphasized once again, staring at Lin You, “Do you want to be marked at such a young age?”

Lin You vigorously shook his head. “No, I still want to find a girlfriend.”

The doctor chuckled, amused by his words. “Do you like female alphas?”

“I don’t like them. I prefer female omegas, but betas are fine too,” Lin You answered dejectedly.

After a few more instructions, the doctor was about to leave to check on other patients.

Before leaving, he reminded Lin You, “Rest well. If there are no complications tomorrow, you can go home. When your parents come, remember to call me, I need to talk to them about some precautions.”

After the doctor left, the ward fell into complete silence.

It was a single-patient room, with only Lin You and Lu Qingyan inside. They stared at each other for a while, neither of them speaking.

Lu Qingyan looked at Lin You’s face.

In fact, Lin You has always had delicate and refined features. Fair skin, black eyes, and long, dense eyelashes, which often led people to mistake him for an omega. However, like Lu Qingyan, he never showed mercy when fighting and was unbeatable in school. So, no one ever suspected that he might be an omega.

Lu Qingyan sighed, “How do you feel now? Being an omega isn’t necessarily a bad thing, right?.”

“I don’t think being an omega is bad,” Lin You furrowed his eyebrows, “My older brother and mother are both omegas, so I don’t have any gender discrimination.”

He scratched his head and sighed, “I’m just not used to it. I always thought I was a beta, and I was doing fine as a beta. But suddenly, my gender changed, and I can’t adapt to it for a while.”

Lu Qingyan could understand that.

If he suddenly became an omega, he would also be confused and unsure of how to act.

But now Lin You had already differentiated, it was an established fact that couldn’t be changed.

Lu Qingyan couldn’t offer much consolation, so he patted Lin You’s shoulder, “Whether you’re a beta or an omega, you’re still my brother.”

Lin You smiled, and the atmosphere in the ward finally lightened a bit.

In reality, he didn’t really care about the change in his gender. As long as he was still Lin You.

But when he thought about the doctor saying that his pheromones were the inducer type, Lin You tugged at his collar revealing the patch that covered the gland and leaned toward Lu Qingyan, asking, “Qingyan, can you still smell my pheromones? Do you have any impulses?”

Lu Qingyan looked at Lin You’s delicate neck and leaned in slightly.

A faint scent of orchids slowly emanated from the back of Lin You’s neck, but it was already diluted like rainwater, only leaving a faint trace.

“I can smell a bit, like the perfume my mom uses, nothing special,” Lu Qingyan commented.

Lin You let go of his collar and felt relieved.

“It seems that as long as I wear the suppressant patch, I’ll be fine,” he looked at Lu Qingyan, “Luckily, you’re a beta.”

Lu Qingyan lightly tapped his forehead, “Even if I were an alpha, I wouldn’t have any impulses towards you.” He looked at the sky outside, realizing it was almost getting dark. “Tell me, what do you want to eat for dinner? I’ll go buy it for you.”

“Get me a bowl of vermicelli soup and some pan-fried buns. I don’t have much of an appetite today.”

Lin You leaned back on the pillow, directing Lu Qingyan skillfully.

Lu Qingyan thought to himself that he had raised a troublesome guy, but he stood up and prepared to go to the cafeteria.

As he entered the elevator and watched the floors descend, Lu Qingyan suddenly remembered when Lin You asked if he had any impulses.

He said he didn’t.

But that was a lie.

When he smelled Lin You’s pheromones earlier, his heart did beat a bit faster, but it quickly calmed down. Then, earlier when they had arrived at the hospital and he saw those alphas looking at Lin You in his arms with that struggling and longing expression, a surge of anger had welled up in his heart. He wanted to drive away those alphas and hide Lin You, hide him in a place only he knew.

But that was probably mostly because Lin You was like his younger brother, whom he had grown up with.

As soon as he thought about so many alphas coveting his younger brother, he instinctively felt a desire to protect him.

Lu Qingyan thought with certainty, then he skillfully told the cafeteria lady, “One bowl of vermicelli soup and one serving of pan-fried buns. No scallions in the soup, but add a spoonful of spicy sauce.”
