When Lu Qingyan received Lin You’s phone call, he had just woken up and was wearing a black sleeping robe. Lazily, he stood in the kitchen cooking instant noodles.

He was only seventeen years old, but he had surpassed a height of 185 centimeters. Golden sunlight streamed in through the kitchen window, illuminating him. The black sleeping robe, loosely tied, revealed glimpses of his well-defined abdominal muscles and tanned skin. Even while yawning and cooking noodles, he looked like he was posing for a photoshoot in a studio and could pass for a model.

When Lu Qingyan received Lin You’s call, he didn’t think much of it. He thought it was to invite him to play basketball. However, he heard Lin You weakly say, “Lu Qingyan, I’m not feeling well. I think I have a fever and can’t get up. Hurry over and take me to the hospital.”

Lu Qingyan was taken aback. Based on his understanding of Lin You, he knew that Lin You wouldn’t ask for help unless he was genuinely too sick to get out of bed.

Without hesitation, Lu Qingyan turned off the stove. “Wait for me, I’ll come over,” he said.

He didn’t even bother changing clothes, simply grabbing a black jacket and putting on a pair of jeans. Fortunately, Lin You’s house was just across from his, and it took him less than five minutes to walk there.

When Lu Qingyan reached the second floor of Lin You’s house, he smelled an indescribable fragrance. It was like the scent of flowers, gentle and soft, melting into the air. It made him blush and feel warm involuntarily, as if he were in a photography studio.

If there were an alpha present, they would immediately recognize it as the pheromones of an omega, highly concentrated and approaching the level of heat.

Unfortunately, Lu Qingyan was just an oblivious beta when it came to such matters. He frowned, thinking that the air freshener in Lin You’s house was overly sweet.

He quickened his pace and reached the door of Lin You’s bedroom. Pushing open the door, he felt that the fragrance inside the room was even stronger, almost overwhelming, assaulting him head-on.

Lu Qingyan took a deep breath and felt his head spinning. His heartbeat inexplicably accelerated.

He walked quickly to the side of the bed and saw Lin You lying there, wrapped up in a blanket like a ball.

Lin You’s face had a faint pinkish shade, his lips were dry but rosy, and his dark hair clung to his sweaty face. His eyes were also moist.

He was completely curled up in the blanket, and when he saw Lu Qingyan, he didn’t bother to uncover his hand from the blanket. Instead, he gestured to Lu Qingyan, urging him, “Hurry up and take me to the hospital.”

“It looks like your fever is worsening,” Lu Qingyan murmured, then pulled Lin You out of the blanket and helped him off the bed.

Lin You was also covered in sweat, his body temperature unreasonably high but Lu Qingyan couldn’t understand why he had wrapped himself in the blanket. Lin You was only wearing a white T-shirt and shorts, exposing his fair wrists and ankles. Coupled with his innocent-looking face, he seemed several years younger than Lu Qingyan.

Lin You wanted to walk by himself, but as soon as his feet touched the ground, his legs gave way. Luckily, Lu Qingyan had been watching him and swiftly supported him.

Lu Qingyan carried Lin You and walked downstairs. Seeing Lin You’s unwilling expression, he couldn’t help but smile and said, ‘Stop struggling. I just called a car, it’s downstairs. I’ll take you to the hospital now.’

Lin You leaned against Lu Qingyan’s shoulder with a sense of despair. He couldn’t believe that he, Lin You, who was once a powerful figure in Jinan High School, had now ended up being carried like a princess by someone else. It would be too embarrassing if it got out.

With the little energy he had left, he threatened, ‘I’m telling you, if you dare talk about what happened today, you’re finished. Even three beatings would be too lenient.’

Lu Qingyan mocked, ‘You need to have the strength to beat me up first.’

The two exchanged a few words and reached downstairs. The taxi was already waiting. Lu Qingyan settled Lin You in the back seat before getting in himself.

‘Driver, to the First City Hospital.’

After closing the car door, Lu Qingyan realized that there was a lingering floral fragrance inside, seemingly emanating from Lin You. He couldn’t help but move closer to Lin You and take a sniff, frowning as he asked, ‘Did you spray perfume?’

Lin You gave him a blank look and replied, ‘You’re the one who sprayed perfume.’

The driver, a Beta in his forties, glanced at them from the rearview mirror. He had noticed the guy in the white T-shirt when he got into the car. That was an Omega entering the heat period. He didn’t understand what was going on with young kids these days, not taking suppressants during their heat period and running around like that.

Fortunately, he was a Beta, so he didn’t have any impulsive reactions to pheromones. If it had been an Alpha, it would have been a different story.

Thinking that, the driver kindly reminded them, ‘Young man, are you going to the hospital because you ran out of suppressants? Next time, don’t go out without taking any, It’s not safe.’

Lin You and Lu Qingyan looked at each other, confused.

Suppressants?

Weren’t those things only needed by Omegas?

‘Uncle, you’ve got it wrong. I’m going to the hospital because of a fever. We’re both Betas, why would we need suppressants?’ Lin You leaned against Lu Qingyan’s shoulder, weakly responding.

Both he and Lu Qingyan were identified as Betas since birth. It was just that his face was too fair and delicate, often mistaken for an Omega. Lin You had gotten used to it.

The driver looked at them strangely.

The scent of pheromones filled the car. How could they be Betas? That young kid didn’t even know how to draft a lie.

Fortunately, they soon arrived at the First City Hospital. Lu Qingyan quickly paid the fare and carried Lin You out of the car.

Lu Qingyan had come to the emergency department, and they were lucky that day as the hospital wasn’t too crowded. They quickly got their turn.

However, while Lu Qingyan was waiting outside with Lin You, several young men and women kept looking their way. They seemed to be Alphas, with expressions of struggle and longing on their faces. They were whispering something while looking at Lin You in his arms.

Lu Qingyan instinctively felt uncomfortable. He used his black coat to cover Lin You, preventing others from staring at him.

Lin You’s face grew increasingly red, and his breath became hotter. He nuzzled against Lu Qingyan’s neck like a feather, making him slightly uncomfortable. But when he thought about it being Lin You, he didn’t mind much.

After about five minutes, it was Lin You’s turn to go in.

Lin You’s legs were still too weak to stand, so Lu Qingyan ignored his protests and carried him into the emergency room.

The doctor in the emergency department was a young man. He took a glance at Lin You and couldn’t help raising his eyebrows, about to ask why he hadn’t taken any suppressants during his heat period. But then he heard Lu Qingyan say, ‘Doctor, he has a high fever.’

He also saw on the medical card that Lin You’s identity was listed as ‘Male Beta, Age: 17.’

The doctor immediately had a guess in his mind.

‘Wait a moment,’ he took out a detector from the cabinet and motioned for Lin You to extend his finger. ‘Put your finger here.’

Lin You obediently extended his hand, and his finger was pricked by the detector, collecting a drop of bright red blood that turned the display light red.

Lin You was caught off guard by the finger prick, and his expression twisted in pain.

Lu Qingyan watched the entire process and couldn’t help but feel nervous. He asked, ‘Doctor, what’s happening? He has a fever, right?’

‘It’s not a fever. He’s undergoing differentiation and only has symptoms similar to a fever,’ the doctor put the detector aside, used the phone to contact his colleagues on the floor above, and calmly explained to the two stunned young men, ‘He’s not a Beta at all, he’s an Omega. It’s just that his differentiation occurred too late. Although this situation is rare, it does happen. Just stay calm. I’m transferring you to the Omega Center upstairs, and they will come down to receive you soon. You two wait here.’

Seeing Lin You’s stunned expression, the doctor kindly reassured him, ‘Don’t be nervous. Omegas who differentiate late usually have excellent pheromone levels. It’s a good thing. And having an alpha, your boyfriend, by your side during the differentiation period will be soothing and make things easier.’

There were too many questionable points in his statement, and Lin You didn’t even know where to begin with his complaints.

Alpha, Beta, and Omega genders could be identified at birth, and only a few people might have a second differentiation at the age of fourteen. Lin You was already seventeen, way past the latest age for differentiation. How could he suddenly differentiate into an Omega?

Lin You silently pinched the flesh on Lu Qingyan’s arm, and this time, Lu Qingyan’s face twisted.

‘Doctor, I really am a Beta. I was identified at birth,’ Lin You persistently explained to the doctor. ‘This person next to me is neither my boyfriend nor an alpha. He is also a Beta, just like me.'”

The doctor looked at Lu Qingyan with surprise. Even though Lu Qingyan was sitting in a chair, it was evident that he had broad shoulders, long legs, and a height well above the average for boys his age. His features were also aggressively handsome, like a lazy leopard that appeared calm but concealed danger. Therefore, the doctor subconsciously assumed Lu Qingyan was an alpha.

However, it turned out he was a beta.

But after observing Lin You, who was barely leaning on Lu Qingyan, the doctor took out a new detector and said to Lu Qingyan, “Why don’t you get tested as well?”

Lu Qingyan: “…”

Nevertheless, he obediently extended his hand.

The detector collected a drop of blood from Lu Qingyan’s finger, and Lin You curiously lifted his eyes to see the display light on the detector turn green.

The doctor felt a bit regretful for some reason.

“He is indeed a beta,” the doctor nodded, affirming Lu Qingyan’s identity. Then he looked at Lin You and said, “But you are indeed an omega.”

Before the words even settled, the door of the emergency room was knocked. Several figures wearing light blue uniforms entered and asked, “Is there a newly differentiated omega here?”

The doctor pointed to Lin You and said, “Here he is, seventeen years old, male.”

Lin You raised his head drowsily, but before he could speak, several medical staff placed him on a stretcher. His neck was sprayed with a cool liquid, and a pill was inserted into his mouth.

“Who is the guardian?” the medical staff asked again, seeing only Lu Qingyan alone. They found it strange and asked, “Are you the accompanying person?”

“I’m his brother,” Lu Qingyan stood up, towering a head above the medical staff and appearing quite reliable. “Tell me if there’s anything you need.”

Lin You, lying on the stretcher, silently flipped him off.

Pretending to be my brother again. I’ll remember this.
