Chapter 13.2: Persecution

Duanmu Xi yawned and stretched lazily, taking two deep breaths of the refreshing air in the forest. She then crouched down and rubbed Lan Ze’s little head.

“Little Ze, retreat back into the dimensional space and get some sleep.”

“Mm. Just call for me if you need anything. I’ll go back into the dimensional space to sleep then.” Lan Ze yawned and then disappeared.

After Lan Ze went back into the dimensional space, Duanmu Xi executed the Rinsing Skill for water to wash her face and put out the fire she lit last night before setting off once again on her journey.

Walking on the little path on her own in the forest, Duanmu Xi felt a little lost in finding her way forward. She had been walking in the Wounded Unicorn Forest for ten days and she did not know how long more she had to walk before she would be able to get out.

Suddenly, Duanmu Xi heard voices. The sound was getting closer from afar and it was gradually becoming clearer.

Duanmu Xi quickly leapt into the air into a tall tree beside her and then hid her aura.

“Have they found anything?” A low deep voice said.

“No. Don’t know where he could have hidden himself. We couldn’t even find a single trace.” A slightly young voice said, sounding rather exhausted.

“The bodies of Ghost Flame and the others were found within this forest, so he must be here as well. Have everyone continue to search. Even if we have to dig up three feet of the ground, we have to find him. Otherwise when the higher ups condemn us, none of us can expect to live.”

That was the low and deep voice from before, and he sounded a little frustrated.

“I understand.”

After the black robed men had gone far away, Duanmu Xi then jumped off the tree.

As the sun was setting in the west, Duanmu Xi was passing through a tiny little pathway within the dense forest and her ears came to hear the roaring sound of torrential water.

It was a waterfall.

A small sized waterfall suddenly appeared before Duanmu Xi’s eyes.

The dwindling light rays of the setting sun were splashed upon the white falling torrent of water, causing the waterfall to be stained a beautiful orange shade. The orange coloured waterfall fell through the air against a sheer wall, the water spilling over like sand into a crystalline blue lake.

It was a picturesque scene and Duanmu Xi suddenly felt very much like swimming. Her body soared into the air and plunged right into the little lake.

Duanmu Xi swam over to the bottom of the falls where the light misty vapour splashed over her and her face, like a fine drizzle of rain that seeped right into her heart.

Duanmu Xi swam one round after another in the lake, and it was only when she swam to go behind the waterfall that she was surprised to discover that there was actually a large cave in the sheer wall of rock.

A cave. That would make a great place for her to spend the night.

Duanmu Xi leapt out of the water right towards the Water Curtain Cave.

She had just reached the cave’s mouth when a bolt of light blue mystical energy was shot at her. She did not have time to even think and Duanmu Xi immediately executed her Swift Wind Steps before she was just managed to dodge the attack.
