Chapter 13.1: Persecution

Xuanyuan Mo who had left the ten thousand year snow mountain did not know where he could go and he unconsciously came to make his way in a southerly direction.

When night fell, Xuanyuan Mo did not do like most people and did not even light a fire. He had become accustomed to lightless darkness like this, and low temperatures.

He leaned back against the trunk of a large tree and lifted his head up to gaze upon the moon. As he stared, the image of a tiny figure slowly appeared against the bright moon and his amber coloured eyes grew warm.

Suddenly, his gaze turned to ice and he shot to his feet like a carp jumping out of the water. The aura around his body changed, to become cold and murderous like always.

“Show yourselves.”

With those words spat out in an icy tone, a group of masked black robed men came out from the shadows. Without a single word, they all then lunged forward to attack Xuanyuan Mo.

Xuanyuan Mo’s eyes narrowed and he stood there, not moving an inch. When the black robed assassins closed in, he lashed out with a slash of blue mystical power, which took out two of the black robed assassins in an instant.

He threw out a second, and then a third slash of blue mystical power in quick succession and the group of black robed assassins quickly found themselves in dire straits.

The leader of the team of assassins looked at Xuanyuan Mo with shock on his face.

[Heavens, that youth is still so young and he has already reached the Mystic Sovereign. How is that even possible?]

After the initial shock faded, he quickly came to react and signalled to his subordinates. “Scatter.”

Upon hearing the order given, the few remaining black robed assassins then leapt up high into the air at the same time, thinking that they have disappeared from Xuanyuan Mo’s sight completely.

Xuanyuan Mo watched the darting figures sprinting among the trees and did not move.

People from the wolf tribe were not afraid of night as even in pitch darkness, they were still able to see their prey clearly.

“Heaven Usurper”

With that summoning command, an enormous sword glowing with a heavenly blue light appeared out of thin air.

“Kill.”

The icy voice did not contain the slightest sliver of emotion.

Hearing its Master’s command, the Heaven Usurper shot forward in an instant.

The fleeing black robed assassins suddenly saw a brilliant eye blinding blue light, the light illuminating their surroundings to become bright as day.

“Argh…..”

Pitiful cries sounded one after another and the black robed assassins were all lying upon the ground, no longer breathing.

“Return.” The voice was icily cold as ever.

Hearing the command, the Heaven Usurper shot back with a woosh to go back to where Xuanyuan Mo was.

Xuanyuan Mo looked at the sword blade and saw that it was clean as before, where not even a single drop of blood had stained it. With a flick of his sleeve, the enormous sword then disappeared, the surroundings falling once again into darkness.

Xuanyuan Mo struggled to suppress the blood surging up inside his body as he turned around to disappear into the forest.

…..

The golden rays of the morning sun shone upon Duanmu Xi’s face through the canopy of trees in the forest, warm and comforting.
