32 – Winter and the Chaser (8)

Pure white snow began to fall from the gray sky. Under the gloomy, gray sky, which was unlike usual, pure white snow began to fall on everything on the ground.

The touch of cold snow made my skin tingle. The reason I feel a chill down my spine is not just because the snow that fell from the sky is cold.

Now in this place, there was someone glaring at me with eyes that seemed colder than anything in this world.

“It’s been a while. Reed White’s assistant.”

A voice as cool as a cold winter wind comes out of the man’s mouth and echoes throughout this place. I ordered the undead in an urgent voice.

“Get rid of it!”

Skeleton warriors holding swords and shields and undead bears began to move in unison. Morse stared at the charging undead with no expression.

Then, a strange phenomenon occurred that I could not believe even when I saw it. Morse did not take any stance at the approaching Skeleton Warrior and simply swung his fist.

Then, Mors’s fist showed power as if a huge ogre was swinging its fist with all its might.

Morse’s blow shattered the Skeleton Warrior’s entire body, and his bones flew backwards. The bones that flew far away started rolling around on the ground, and that was the end of the Skeleton Warrior.

The same was true for other undead. Morse’s appearance of being embarrassed by a skeleton when he first met him disappeared completely. He began to destroy the undead as easily as a butcher cutting down meat.

Even the undead bear with its enormous size and strength was no match for it.

The undead bear got up from its prone position and struck Mors down with its huge front paws. Morse’s hands grabbed the bear’s front paws and began a struggle of strength.

Crack, crack, the undead bear’s front paws began to crack and a huge figure slowly began to rise from the ground. He completely crushed the giant bear’s hand and threw it away.

Kwow – The sound of a bear being violently thrown down reached our ears. I held my breath for a moment at the majesty of Morse.

“What on earth is happening now…? Who is that man who suddenly appeared?”

Philip looked at me with a puzzled expression. I spoke softly to Philip in a trembling voice.

“I don’t know how you will accept it, but he is a very skilled chaser. It seems he followed me here to target Dorothy and me.”

“A chaser…?”

Philip fell into silence. A quiet silence swept over this place, and Morse, who had slaughtered all the undead with overwhelming force, began to walk.

Bumping along, he began to leisurely approach Philip and me, walking on the ground where the snow had not yet piled up.

“Run. As far away as you can. He doesn’t like to leave traces. If Philip is here too, he won’t be safe.”

“Yes…?”

“Quickly.”

Philip started to panic, not knowing what to do. I pushed his back and only then did Philip start to run away.

Dorothy was staring at Morse for a long time with wary eyes. Dorothy’s eyes turned to his hand and she seemed to notice this strange phenomenon.

“Master, that guy… His gloves are special.”

When I heard Dorothy’s words, my eyes turned to Morse’s hand. He was wearing thick leather gloves with a red gem encrusted in the very center.

The red jewel embedded in the gloves was shining brightly. It seemed like the gem itself was glowing, rather than reflecting sunlight.

“Magic item…”

Is it all thanks to the power of that glove that Morse can destroy the undead with transcendental power?

“That’s the correct answer. This is an ogre gauntlet. Now, if you understand the situation, put down your weapon and surrender. If the business is over, I will kill you painlessly.”

“Do you think he will obey you obediently? If he had, he wouldn’t have run away in the first place.”

I responded appropriately to Morse’s blatant threats and looked at the situation cool-headedly. We have to overcome this obstacle somehow.

Currently, the number of undead I can summon is now limited to five.

In Dorothy’s case, it was unclear whether she could use one of her arms, and her rapier was broken.

On the other hand, Morse is in excellent condition. It was a very advantageous situation for the pursuer.

Maybe it’s not now that he’s caught up with us. Morse was giving off an air of waiting for a fight that would be advantageous to him.

However, although the enemy was overwhelming, he was not invincible. Just because he could use the power of an ogre didn’t mean he became an ogre.

He is also a human being just like us. If he succeeds in his attack, he can easily win us over.

“Wake up from the eternal world.”

I immediately summoned the orcs I had just gathered. Skeletons wearing armor and axes woke up from the dead, revealing their bright blue eyes to the enemy.

Unlike ordinary skeleton warriors, the skeleton orc warrior’s body size was 1.5 Times larger. The white skeletons, which were bigger and more threatening than Morse, who was eight feet tall, roared at him while holding axes.

Despite the roar of the Skeleton Orc Warrior, Morse did not flinch. Instead, he smiled bitterly.

“I guess you’re saying this is the most you can do.”

“However, this is enough.”

After I finished speaking, Dorothy moved quickly.

She passed through the summoned skeleton orcs and reached Mors. That speed was the fastest I’ve ever seen Dorothy move.

Dorothy’s broken rapier flashes. A sharp stab that is repeated countless times towards Morse.

Mors stepped on the step, watching the blade and Dorothy’s hand movements. Dorothy’s movements were too sharp to easily avoid the attack.

The last stab passes through Morse’s cheek. The cheek where the rapier grazed is cracked and blood drips down.

The attack on Mors did not end there. The waiting Skeleton Orc Warriors began slashing huge axes at Mors.

Although we suffered a lot from the battle with the Orcs, we had the advantage of numerical superiority.

Even Morse couldn’t avoid that many attacks. Morse parried and dodged the attacks, but eventually his shoulder was split open by the Skeleton Warrior’s axe.

“Ugh!”

A moan comes out of Morse’s mouth. He stumbled, his blood dripping onto the ground. With this, I thought the victory was tilted in our favor.

“Puhuh… Uhhhhh… Puhahahahaha!!”

A burst of laughter erupted from Morse’s mouth.

Morse was laughing as if he was having a lot of fun in the midst of a fight that risked his life and death.

“Good. It’s a pursuit that I put a lot of effort into for half a year, but it’s even more disappointing if it ends in vain.”

When I looked at that smile, I felt an eerie feeling.

As soon as Morse’s laughter ended, his counterattack began. He quickly thrust his fist towards the nearby skeleton.

Kwaang-! It was no longer the sound a fist made. The sound of bones being broken was immediately heard. The skeleton’s bones fell like leaves.

Each of Morse’s blows seemed as heavy as a cannon ball. The two skeleton Orc Warriors were destroyed at once and their functions stopped.

While the Skeleton Orc Warrior was crushed by Morse’s hand, Dorothy moved behind Morse.

Dorothy’s rapier did not miss the gap created by Morse’s attack on the Skeleton Orc Warrior.

The broken rapier stabbed Mors sharply in the back. He stabbed deeply until the sword’s guard touched his back, and the blade finally pierced his heart.

“It’s done.”

Dorothy spoke words that assured him of his victory. No matter how skilled he is, it is a blow that will inevitably result in death.

Blood spurts out of Morse’s mouth. His body began to convulse like an aspen tree trembling.

However, that was far from the final act of the living as they die. As I looked at that scene, I felt an ominous feeling flash through my mind.

“Dorothy, get away from him. Quickly!”

“Huh…?”

Dorothy was already confident of his victory and her whole body relaxed, so she could not immediately respond to my words.

Even though Morse had been stabbed in the heart, he turned his back and looked down at Dorothy with an intimidating expression.

“How on earth did this happen…?”

Even before Dorothy finished speaking, Morse’s shoulders moved.

I quickly gave an order to the Skeleton Orc Warrior and pushed Dorothy away.

Kwaang-! Dust rises from the place where Dorothy was standing. The skeleton orc warrior who pushed Dorothy was shattered and its disintegrated bones rolled across the ground.

In the rising dust, Morse pulled the rapier from his chest and dropped it to the floor.

Dangling, the sound of metal echoes in the quiet battlefield.

I hurried over to Dorothy and checked her condition.

“Are you okay?”

“It’s okay. But I clearly stabbed the heart…How is it moving?”

When the dust covering Morse’s body disappeared, his appearance was fully revealed.

When the black hood covering his face was removed, his crumbly white hair, resembling the gray sky, was revealed. The area around his eyes was haggard and covered with dark circles. However, the eerie red eye at the center was clearly visible.

“It looks like the person pursuing us is not human.”

Mors had the appearance of a vampire. He was grinning viciously at us, baring his beastly fangs.
