The Love of a Lycan

Chapter 699: Warning

Raine frowned upon hearing the thing that Kace just said. Seeing how his brother's statement had just put his mate at a slight discomfort, Torak caressed her hair to ease her troubled feelings. He wrapped his arm around her waist. "You don't need to listen to him."

"He doesn't seem to like me," without any hidden intention, Raine mumbled to herself, while walking along with Torak by her side. They were heading towards the tent, with Calleb and Jack followed behind them.

Hearing her mumbling, Torak said, "He doesn't like most of the people," he chuckled, trying to reassure her.

"Anyway, what were you discussing?" Raine asked. She was curious about the conversation that her mate shared with his brother. They had been talking for two hours. It was not a short while for a conversation. However, to think about it again, the both lycan brothers had been parted ways for centuries, it was only normal if they had a lot of things to talk about.

"Let's say, it was a man to man conversation," Torak tousled her hair, chuckling when he watched Raine pout her lips. "What about you? What were you talking about?"

"It was a girl to girl conversation." said Raine, using the same answer while attempting Torak's typical tone of speaking. But it didn't sound similar at all when she tried to imitate him. Nevertheless, it was enough to make the supreme Alpha laugh heartily. Seeing how his mate got a little sullen like this, was one of those moments that he would always enjoy the most.

"Did I say you're beautiful today?" Torak teased her, and he could see immediately Raine was blushing after hearing his question. "You are my precious one."

Meanwhile, Lilac and Jedrek were having a fantastic day in the city. The sunny, clear skies, and the people who lined up to get a glimpse of their presence, and gave them a respectful look. Except, it was not the case at all.

There was no sunny clear sky. In fact, the sky was pitch black. As if it wasn't bad enough, thunders were completing the bad day. The thunders that sounded like thousands of beasts, had been wrecking some havoc outside of the inn since an hour ago.

Lilac was sitting near the fireplace in an attempt to warm herself. How annoying it was to stumble upon such an unfortunate event like the bad weather. Unfortunately this time, it was also a reminder of how different her body was, compared to those shifters. After all, she was not made of the same quality as the shifters. Some trivial things, like the cold of a rainy day, could actually weaken her.

"Great! Even the weather doesn't seem to approve of us being together." Lilac said sarcastically. She was upset.

Lilac had asked to return to the castle even before the rain started pouring down the street. But, just like any other day, Jedrek wouldn't listen.

The king seemed to have many things to do in his daily agenda, as per usual. And this time around was no different. Three visits to different places in the city were scheduled on his list. So, to think about it again, his intended reasons for introducing Lilac to his people, were not quite accurate. Was it all just an excuse that was orchestrated, in order to get her to come along with him in his outing?

The moment Lilac realized Jedrek's intention, she immediately asked to be excused, because all she wanted was to return to the castle. If only the king could be generous towards her only this one time, she wished nothing more than being allowed to just wander around by herself in the city, because she thought that it might've been better for her. But of course, Jedrek rejected her idea adamantly.

However, after visiting the second place, the rain started pouring down heavily. And at last, here they were, sitting inside a tavern with Lilac couldn't move an inch from the fireplace without shivering.

To be perfectly honest, the place wasn't so bad. In fact, it was rather pleasant, quiet, and there were not many people here. Except for the three people who were sitting at their table obediently. From the look on their faces, anyone could tell that these people wouldn't dare to make a sudden sound, or even move an inch, as long as their king was present under the same roof above their heads.

Meanwhile, Lilac and Jedrek sat at a nice table in the corner near a fireplace.

"Drink this," said Jedrek while handing Lilac a mug of warm cider. The spices on it were traveling fast into Lilac's throat, even before she got the chance to properly drink it. The prickling sensation that was caused by the sharp scent of spices, immediately made her cough.

"What is that?" Lilac frowned and pushed the mug away from her, as if Jedrek was trying to poison her.

"This will keep you warm." Jedrek frowned, but he put the mug away. He then made an order gesture, directed to Theo to bring another drink for her.

"No, thanks. I am fine with the fire over here," Lilac said. One could tell that she was indeed in a bad mood. She lifted her legs, and hugged them close to her chest while resting her chin on top of her knees. She didn't dress for this kind of bad weather, thus she couldn't help but feel cold.

"Do you think I would know exactly when it is going to rain?" Jedrek glanced at Lilac. He took off his coat, and threw it to her. "Wear this," he said curtly.

The coat dropped on her knees, but Lilac kicked it away that it laid on the ground. The guardian angel couldn't appreciate the rude gesture that she just received. "No need."

Jedrek glared at Lilac's brazenness. But he knew better that the girl seemed to be more than ready for the staring contest. In the end, the King shook his head and picked up the coat from the ground. He shook it off from the dirt, and this time, he draped the coat around Lilac carefully.

"I don't want it…" Lilac was about to throw the coat away again, but then, Jedrek caught her hand first.

"Don't you dare," he said in a warning tone.

"So what? What are you going to do, if I do? You will punish me?" Lilac glared back at him, she didn't want to feel intimidated by him.

"Go on then, try! And you will see." Jedrek gritted his teeth. He couldn't even remember the last time when someone rebelled against him countless times like this, and the time when he managed to keep his patience from beheading the head of a rebel like now.

And then, just as Jedrek had expected to happen. Lilac raised her hand to throw the cloak from her shoulder. But the lycan king had an extraordinary speed that he moved faster, and wrapped the cloak even tighter around her.

The cloak was so large, that it was enough to wrap Lilac's body entirely. Lilac refused to give in, she was struggling to free herself from him. But it only made Jedreklose his patience even more. Then, he picked Lilac up, and placed the girl on his lap.He hugged her around his arms.

"You bastard! Put me down!" She shouted. The dispute between them was heating to the point when the girl was now shouting, and this drew attention from the people inside the tavern. Including the two generals who were sitting not too far from them.

"Keep calling me that, and I will kiss you in front of these people." Jedrek warned her. "And you will see how bastard I am."

Late at night, in one of the hallways of the castle, there was a man standing beside an open window. He was covered with a dark cloak. It was perhaps an intentional move. Because his dark attire seemed to have a purpose of keeping him hidden under a camouflage. So that no one could see his face. He was listening to a whisper.

At first it was only a muffling sound, and it was hard to understand. But then, the man eventually managed to have a conversation with it. The voices sounded like a human voice, but their tones were hard to comprehend. The sound was akin to fingernails scraping to a chalkboard. The whisper came from a shadow, a smoke-like figure.

"She is his mate…" The man said in a low voice to the shadow, and then came another whisper. "I am sure of it. He had said it himself, and what happened today confirmed it." The man glanced at the empty hall. He was alert, completely cautious of his surroundings, just in case there was someone else there. "Once he's done dealing with Maximus, the ceremony for the Luna will be held."
