The Love of a Lycan

Chapter 671: She is awake

"The castle is under attack," Eaton repeated the most important thing, trying to get his attention. And it did make the Alpha king stop for a while.

"Yes I know," he said with the same cold attitude. "I can feel that. Sebastian, and Kyle are in the castle to take care of it."

The attack didn't have a major impact though. It was caused by a few rogues who conspired with some unhappy citizens. They tried to break into the castle once they heard that Jedrek, and his generals were away. They thought that it would be a good time to search through the castle, wishing to find their missing family member there.

Most of the citizens were the people who had been anti to Jedrek's sovereignty. They have been displeased for so long with the way Jedrek ruled the realm.

"What are you going to do with them?" Eaton asked.

"Them?"

"The rebellion."

"Kill them, of course," said the Alpha king truthfully, and decisively.

"You will destroy this kingdom if so," Eaton's eyes hardened. He realized what Jedrek was about to do.

"My father had destroyed this kingdom the moment he made a deal with the devil, I just prolonged it." Jedrek scoffed. When Eaton stopped opposing him, he knew that what he said was the right thing.

"What will you do, then? Do you not trust me enough to share it with me?" said Eaton questioningly. He was distressed, and it was shown through his eyes.

"I will not leave her to you, if I don't trust you," said Jedrek before he closed the door behind him. He made his point very clear. From what he said, it was not only stating his trust for Eaton, but also explained implicitly that Lilac's life mattered to him. The Alpha king might not be aware that through his words, his feelings were expressed more than what he wanted to show.

"Let's stop this hide and seek game. Just come out, will you?" Kace's voice sounded like he was bored, but it didn't lack its fierceness when he glared at the end of the dark alley. The young Donovan had felt his presence since a year ago. In fact, he had been trying to avoid him. This man had been irritating Kace for quite long.

That man was also the reason why Kace couldn't see his mate for a long time. He had to leave her, and even had to try his best to not think about her. And he did. Although it was torturing. He tried to stuff his head with useless things, just to make his mind stop wondering about his little mate.

That man was a mind reader, he could possibly be dangerous to him, and especially to his mate. Because the mind reader was sent by Jedrek, his oldest brother the lycan king, to hunt him down. But apparently, there was another man who was sent by his brother to capture him. A lycan, and on top of that, a general. Maximus was his name, and he was one of Jedrek's trusted generals.

Seeing that now, not only Maximus who was hunting him, the mind reader was also there with the same task. For Kace, it looked like Maximus didn't meet his brother's expectation with the task. How unfit Maximus was for the job, to the point where the king of lycanthropes himself had to send another creature to do it properly.

"How are you, Kace?" Killian finally emerged from the shadow in that alley. He stood under the flickering lamp post.

"I was good before I saw you." Kace sneered.

There was a great distance between them, separating the two creatures. But the distance was not a matter for the tension between Kace, and the mind reader was hard to reduce.

"I'm flattered," said Kilian nonchalantly, brushing away the hostility in Kace's tone. "I came all the way here, just to see you, Kace. Why don't you invite me for a cup of tea, or maybe coffee? All while talking about the weather here, wouldn't that be nice?"

Kace rolled his blue eyes. He just couldn't understand his brother, the lycan king. As a king, why did he always have some strange people at his disposal? "I don't feel like I want to invite you into anything, except for a fight. That way, I can kick your ass. I think some beatings would help to get you away from me?" Kace crossed his arms in front of his chest. He walked casually to approach the mind reader.

Killian didn't move at all. He remained where he was standing. But it was hard to not notice his eyes that were as sharp as ever. He centered his focus all his might, attempting to penetrate Kace's mind. "What is her name?" asked Killian, throwing his first bait at Kace. All in order to make Kace think about her.

"Who? Anna? Dalia? Rose? Martha?" Kace chuckled as he threw random names to Killian.

"No, your mate." Killian smirked. He got a quick peek at an image of a girl's face from Kace's mind. That image came to Kace's mind so quickly, but he managed to see it. "She is beautiful." He nodded, smiling. "Where is she?"

Kace had been avoiding Killian for a year already, and it was because he didn't want this confrontation. He knew that if once Killian got to talk about Hope, Kace couldn't help but to think about her. Some inevitable longing feelings would flush into his blood. He had been away from her for long enough. It was only natural for him to miss her, of course.

Killian was a sly. He knew which button he must push, that was why he could be a threat. However, if he didn't confront him now, how long must he run from Killian, and Maximus? If he kept on running like this, instead of ending it, he realized that he would never be able to come near Hope. He could never do that with Killian tailing him from time to time. Killian was harder to deal with than Maximus.

"You miss her, I see…" Killian mumbled under his breath. But, before he could ask another question that would lead Kace to reveal Hope's exact location in his mind, the lycan had charged towards him. His sharp claws elongated threateningly, ready to tear every flesh that it could touch.

It was not easy, because before any damage could happen, Killian had moved away swiftly. He jumped, and landed effortlessly on the tall wall behind him. "I don't want to fight, I just want to talk." with all the knacks that he got, the mind reader also had a flaw. He was lacking in fighting skill. Although it was true that he wasn't there to fight. "I just need to know where she is."

Kace's eyes turned dark. He felt something, an unpleasant sensation. There was something trying to pierce through his mind. This must be Killian's desperate attempt to know where Hope was. He was sure that Killian was about to flee again from him, so that he would lurk around again, watching him from the dark. But this time, he wouldn't give him another chance to endanger Hope's life.

"Listen, Jedrek will not kill your mate," said Killian sternly while watching Kace slowly start to shift into his beast form. And that was the last lie Kace wanted to hear.

==============

It had been another week since Jedrek left, taking care of his other problem in the castle. Ever since the last attack, nothing major had happened. But it seemed that the Alpha king was too occupied with all the problems in his hands.

With all the messy situations that surrounded the Alpha king, Eaton could only sigh. This time, Eaton was there, feeding Lilac with another spoon of yellow goo. That yellow goo was a substance that sustained her life. She must be fed with it since she couldn't eat anything with her being unconscious.

But, the spoon in Eaton's hand stopped on its way feeding the guardian angel. The old lycan witnessed something that wasn't supposed to happen. Lilac's eyes were wide opened. But she looked confused, blinking her eyes a couple times. She scanned her surroundings, and found the sight of Eaton. She fixed her eyes on him.

"Impossible…" he muttered under his breath. How could she wake up?—he thought.

However, before Eaton could say anything more, he was suddenly being thrown away. He didn't have time to even do anything. The guardian angel had attacked him.
