The Love of a Lycan

Chapter 663: Which prisoner?

Someone came to bring a tray of food and drink for Lilac. But she couldn't see that person's features. Everything in her sight was blurred because of the fever she was suffering from.

The sound of the footsteps was receding, further away to nothingness. She was left alone, again. Now, the blanket that wrapped Lilac's body was no longer comfortable for her to use. It was all wet, drenched with her sweat.

Her broken arm caused her so much pain, to the point of weakening her human body greatly. It was getting worse because she didn't receive a treatment that she needed right away. On top of it, imprisonment was the thing that she got.

Lilac rolled her body, freeing herself from the wet blanket. She felt the cold floor against her skin. That cold floor felt so nice against her burning skin. However, her condition would get worse if this continued.

"Selene...where are you?" Lilac whispered, hoping that the moon goddess would appear somehow to lift her pain. But deep down in her heart, the guardian angel knew that she was in this alone. Selene wouldn't come now, she must through it all alone. And then, Lilac tilted her head to look at the spot where Tordoff was sitting the entire night. She wished that he would come.

She wondered when he would come again.

"Your Majesty?" Suddenly Tordoff was tangled in confusion. His presence was asked by Jedrek. But Tordoff wasn't sure how to respond to the new order that he just received.

Surprised. Jedrek didn't know that Tordoff had this questioning nature, "Are my words unclear?" said Jedrek. He shot him with the most dangerous gaze.

"No, Your Majesty." Realized how he almost crossed the line, Tordoff backed off, lowering his head to avoid the Alpha king's gaze. Hung down beside his body, the clenched of his fists, fighting the urge to argue with Jedrek. Or else, not only would he be stripped off from his title, but he also would lose his head, undoubtedly.

"You will go to the southern area with Warlock, the first thing you do the next morning," said Jedrek. His order was final, and his words were the law. It should never be taken lightly. This time he didn't leave any room for argumentation, didn't even wait for Tordoff's answer. He turned around and walked away.

However, what Tordoff was about to say had him stopped on his way.

"What about the guardian angel? Lilac?" said Tordoff. He didn't even realize that this question had left his mouth. It started with an idea in his mind, a deep concern for the guardian angel. But now, that idea had been formed into a question that he launched out there like a bomb. There was no turn back. It had been said.

For some reason, there was something that Tordoff could not understand. It was the image of Lilac's pale face, and how she grimaced with every move that she made, engraved in his head. Just like cancer, those images seemed to be impossible for him to get rid of off his head.

That question, that name, was indeed triggering the Alpha king. "Never mention her name again. Ever. Or else, I will make sure it would be the last thing you say," said Jedrek grimly. His words were poisonous, that even the air had turned accordingly to his mood. Because it was a warning. And he meant every single word that he said.

"Understood," Tordoff tried to make his voice as smooth as possible, concealing the displeasure that he felt behind his tone. The way Jedrek treated Lilac, somehow, angered him.

And then, the conversation reached stalemate.

==============

Tordoff felt restless the entire night. Not even a blink of sleep could he relish. He ended up there. He didn't even know what brought him there. Deep inside, he knew what seemed to be the cause of it, he was just stubborn to even admit it. Instead, he brushed it aside all night long, until the first strike of sunlight kissed the horizon. Only then, he couldn't help it no more, and gave in to his irrational thought.

There he was, walking down the stairs towards a certain cell inside the dungeon. He was just two hours away from his departure to the southern region, his new mission that was ordered by the Alpha king himself. But there he was, about to commit something that would, very high likely, be a serious offense.

It was the perks of being one of His Majesty the Alpha king's seven generals. There, when the guards saw him visit the dungeon early in the morning, none of them questioned him. They would only bow their head respectfully to him.

Nasty odor lingered in the air when Tordoff walked past the cells for the prisoners. Most of them had been there for years. Being there was the punishment to the crime that they committed. But Lilac was not placed in one of those cells. She was on the other side of the cells, the side where people rarely go there.

Tordoff's heart quickened in every step that he took. He sniffed the air, and there he could smell her faint scent. However, he couldn't help but feel something. He could tell that something wasn't right. The closer he was, the stronger he felt that there was something amiss.

"Lilac?" Tordoff called her name.

There was no answer from the girl.

His gut feeling was telling him for sure that there was something the matter with the guardian angel. He could tell that her condition was getting worse. That discovery only made him let out a deep annoyance growl. By the time he reached the front of her cell, he saw her there. She was sleeping in a fetal position, her broken left arm stretched out uncomfortably.

"Lilac?"

Still, there was no answer except her shallow breathing that echoed faintly in her cell. Tordoff couldn't even see her face to analyze how bad her state was, because her hair covered her face. Right away, he realized that the girl was unconscious. Not of sleeping, but of blacking out.

Seeing how Lilac curled herself, tugged Tordoff's heart ruthlessly. It reminded him of his deceased soulmate. The mate that he could never have the chance to love.

Acting like a fool that he was, although a brave one, his adrenaline rushed in his veins that moment when he decided something that would absolutely be against his Alpha's order. In fact, it could be considered as a crime. His action inflicted pain when he opposed his king. But it wasn't enough to stop him.

With ease, Tordoff successfully unlocked the cell within seconds. He reached straight to the guardian angel in front of him. Gently, he cradled her in his arms, and brushed away her black hair from her face. Only then, he could see that sick looking face, a bad sign of her condition.

Her poor condition was profoundly concerning, her body was burning with fever, and she didn't even seem to notice her surroundings. Lilac's eyebrows knitted together tightly, she whimpered when Tordoff hugged her, and moved her hand. The girl was in pain. At this point, how could Tordoff ever leave her alone in this cell, knowing that nobody would ever come to save her?

If he left her there now, she would die at some point. And Tordoff doubted that Jedrek would be kind enough to even remember that he had Lilac imprisoned there, at the cold damp cell with an untreated broken limb.

"It's okay, I will get you out of here." Tordoff whispered to her, comforting her that everything would be okay. Then he reached for the blanket that he had brought last night, and wrapped her with it. He was cautiously placing Lilac's hand in a more comfortable position.

After Tordoff made sure that no one would be able to catch a glimpse of her face, carefully, he stood up and carried her in his arms. He walked out of the cell, back to the direction where he was coming from. The guards noticed that the general brought someone from inside the cell, and they wondered. But then, their questioning look was dismissed once they were reminded of who he was, and his high rank.

But, which prisoner did he take with him?
