The Love of a Lycan

Chapter 210: The castle and the baby with blue eyes

I threw myself at the wolves, only to learn of the tenderness in their howl, and the loyalty in their blood.

Raine opened her mouth, but no sound came forth. She sniffed and a tear fell on her cheek. She looked as pitiful as a lost child.

Those who saw her, regardless of their nature, took pity on her.

"I … I don't know…" Finally, Raine could squeeze some words out of her lips. "The wizard hunter… chased after her…"

There was growing complaint from people around her.

"Those wizard hunters, they really don't take the Alpha into their eyes!"

"How could they do that on a day like this?"

Raine continued to weep pitifully to gain more sympathy. This way, she planned to either get more attention so Serefina would be able to locate her or sway these people to help her find Serefina.

"I want to find my sister…" Raine said between her sobs.

"The sister that she mentioned must be the witch with fiery red hair." One of the men beside the burly man told him in a low voice.

They had seen Raine with Serefina earlier, so they assumed they were siblings.

"Which direction did she go?" The burly man asked again.

Raine blinked her eyes to let out a few tears before she answered uncertainly. "I don't really know which way she went because she left me inside the room, but I think she went to one of the rooms from where we heard sounds of fighting earlier." She said truthfully.

The expression from people around Raine changed. They frowned and scrunched their nose.

"Girl, I don't think there was anyone left after the fight between the wizard hunters and the witch." A young lady in blue dress said. "The fight broke out very fast and I think the witch didn't expect that."

"Yes, it was an ambush attack and also the wizard hunters outnumbered the witch." An old lady beside the young one chimed in.

The fight between the witch and the wizard hunters shouldn't have happened in the first place, more so on this occasion under the Alpha's territory.

It had been emphasized that every creature was welcome to come and enjoy the festivities. Even if they were sworn enemies like a wizard hunter and a witch or Lycanthropes and the devils, they could come and were protected equally. So no one did anybody else any harm.

Today could be considered as a peace day for every creature.

Therefore, the fight earlier that broke the peace was unacceptable.

Not only that, it revealed how the wizard hunters had disrespected the rule. And for the Lycanthropes, rules were absolute and any violation was inexcusable.

Raine's heart quivered when the old lady said that as if her bad premonition came true. "What should I do?"

Without Serefina, how could she go back to her real time? What's more, without Serefina, how could she survive in this place?

"We need to take you to meet the Alpha." The burly man said. Apparently, he was a lycan warrior who has been appointed to make sure the area was secure and that no untoward incident such as this would happen.

But now that this has happened, he needed to report back to his Alpha. He would take this little girl with him and let the Alpha decide the next course of action.

Upon hearing the word of 'Alpha', Raine's eyes lit up.Initially, her plan was to gain sympathy from these people so that they could help her find Serefina or with this crowd, alert Serefina to where she was. She thought that once she found Serefina, she could tell her that the wizard hunters planned to kill the Alpha's son. It did not even matter which son. For her, it was still terrible news.

But a better option presented itself. The burly man said he would take her to their Alpha. With this, Raine would be able to tell the Alpha directly about the wizard hunter's vicious plan.

"Can you take me to the Alpha? I am afraid the wizard hunter will come and take me." Raine said with pleading eyes.

"Of course, come!" The burly man stood up and reached out his hand for Raine to grab. "Today is a celebration for Alpha's second son. This rude act will not go unpunished." He said firmly.

Raine looked at his big open palm and put her small hand into his. He gripped her hand firmly and helped Raine stand up.

People around them dispersed to the side and gave them space as they walked out. Two more people dressed in the same way as the burly man followed them. Raine wondered if their clothing were like uniforms. Torak had his lycan warriors dress in the same way too. Were these three men warriors of the Alpha's pack?

"What is your name?" Raine lifted her head to look at the burly man. He was very tall that Raine barely reached his shoulder and he had dark skin and curly hair.

"I am Dmitri." He answered her. "You?"

"Raine."

Dmitri, Raine and the two other lycans walked through the crowded streets swiftly. They did not talk to one another. When Raine turned her head to look at the inn where she had stayed for less than an hour, she could see the damage on the walls.

There was a big hole on one side of the building that must have once been a part of the wall of Fabian's room. Raine shuddered as she thought about the fierce fight between the witches and the wizard hunters.

Did they survive? Were they captured? Where were they? Why did no one appear and fetch her?

While Raine was agonizing over these in her head, she followed Dmitri and stayed close. Soon, they arrived at the gate of the castle.

Up close, the castle was way different from what Raine could have ever imagined. Her jaw dropped open in wonder. It was simply too magnificent.

They walked under the open portcullis and continued on to a hallway where many people wearing the same clothes as Dmitri greeted them.

Raine followed Dmitri's lead down another hallway. Her eyes widened at the lavish interiors. Three chandeliers hung over their heads which reflected light off the marble floor. The walls were a glossy stained wood, decorated with wide, elaborate tapestries.

The ceiling must have been fifty one hundred meter high and it was painted in blue color. Along the hallway, a few dozen floor to ceiling windows lined the walls on each side, opening up to allow light to illuminate this part of the castle.

Raine walked in awe, forgetting where she was and what she was planning to do. This place completely fascinated her.

They walked on until they reached dark doors on the other side of the hallway. Dmitri opened the door and held it for Raine as she passed through.

They entered a circular great hall filled with people. On the other side, opposite the entrance door, stood two massive golden thrones inlaid with rubies.

Raine could say nothing and only stare.

"Wait here." Dmitri said as he walked past the crowd to a man who Raine assumed was the Lycan Alpha.

He had dark hair and blue eyes similar to Torak's. He was as tall as Dmitri and had a muscular built. His face was carved into a threatening scowl, wary of anyone going near his beautiful wife who was carrying a baby in her arms.

And then, Raine saw him, the baby with the most beautiful blue eyes, staring back at her as his tiny hand stretched out towards her.
