The Love of a Lycan

Chapter 162: They deserved it

"There!" Lana pointed the two cakes in Raine's hands. "She took it."

The reason that Lana gave, really sounded so ridiculous. It was so stupid that one of the customers chimed in, and spoke in the same loud voice. "What are you talking about? Based on your ridiculous logic, the rest of us here are thieves then? Is that what you mean?!"

Almost immediately, there were waves of mumbles from the rest of the people there. With the same loud voice as Lana, they were agreeing, and questioning Lana's accusation. Because it was just wrong to judge someone based on that logic. Besides it was tremendously stupid of her to give a reason like that, it was also rude to throw such accusation towards someone. Worse, they had zero solid proof for that.

"But, she absolutely can't afford to pay for those cakes!" Lana retorted angrily.

This time people were laughing at her stubbornness, and stupidity.

"Look at the man beside her, I don't think he is short on money!" said the same person while laughing heartily. But, her laugh abruptly stopped when she realized who the man was. She couldn't believe her own eyes with the sight of him.

"Do you know that this girl is from an orphanage? How could she afford to buy something from this store?!" Lana spoke unhappily.

"Miss, I think you have made a wrong accusation, this gentleman is with this lady. He was about to pay when he heard there was a commotion here." Said a female shopkeeper. She had her eyes on Torak since the first time he arrived at this store with Raine.

The manager sighed. "I think this is only a misunderstanding. Young lady, you owed her an apology for your false accusation against her." He wanted to short out this matter quickly. Because it was the end of the month. And during this period of time, as many other store employees, he had many things to do.

"I don't accept their apologies." Torak talked rigidly, he glanced at Raine beside him. "They had accused my… woman of something she did not commit." He said, while stumbling upon just the right word that would be suitable to address Raine. "I want you to check on them instead. I am afraid it is them who had stolen something from this store."

"Impossible! We didn't steal anything from here!" said Diane immediately, denying his request. Anyone could see that she was unnecessarily flustered.

Torak didn't want to argue with some insignificant people like those girls. So he simply talked to the manager. "These girls are from an orphanage, I don't think they could afford anything from here." He used the same words to accuse them.

Upon hearing Torak's words some of the people covered their mouth, giggling.

"Miss, would you mind showing us your bags, please?" After considering the situation, the manager chose to follow Torak's words. Besides, there was no harm for that.

The reason for his action was that compared to the three young girls, he'd rather choose not to offend the man before him. Meanwhile, Lana, Sally, and Diane were beyond nervous now. They threw their bags on the floor. Then the securities picked them up and checked them, if ever they really stole something.

"Do you really think you will find something?!" Diane asked furiously. "It's impossible for us to steal anything from here. And besides, we've been here a couple of times already! We're customers."

"That's true! It is absolutely a humiliation!" Sally said angrily.

But, before they could complain even further, the two securities pulled something from their bags. It was two chocolate cakes from each of the bags.

"What!?" Lana was flabbergasted. "No! That's impossible!"

"We didn't take those cakes!" Diane's eyes opened wide, watching in horror while Sally shook her head in denial.

"How could those cakes be inside our bags?!" Sally snatched her bag from the security. "I didn't take those cakes!"

All the people there were shocked as well, watching how things unfolded with an unexpected twist. They didn't see it coming, in fact no one expected that. How could the situation possibly be turning into such a worse mess for these girls?

The manager was also surprised with how the situation turned out. He was completely lost for words, didn't know what to say. But since the evidence was already on the scene, there was no point for them to deny it.

In this case, Raine was holding the cakes in her hands, which was a normal thing. But it was not the case for those three girls. Instead of holding the cakes—that they should pay for—in their hands, they put the cakes inside their bags. It wasn't a normal place to put some unpaid items. So no wonder that this revealing moment was somehow raising suspicion against them.

"I think you can explain it inside my office." The manager gestured to the securities, ordering implicitly to take the three girls away. They were at fault, and it was them who dug their own grave. It was the end of them by the time they shouted, and called someone a thief with no proof at hands, while they were the actual thieves.

With screaming and some endless cursing, the securities brought Lana, Diane, and Sally away from the scene. Once they disappeared behind the door with the 'Staff Only' sign at the front, the calm atmosphere returned. The other customers resumed to look for the cakes that they wanted, but the shocking event that just happened wouldn't leave their lips any time soon.

"On behalf of our store, I'd like to say that we're so sorry for the inconvenience that you just experienced at our store." The manager talked to Torak, and looked at Raine. "As compensation, allow me to give you the two cakes on your hands for free." He said generously.

"There is no need for that." Torak cut him off curtly. Then he talked to Raine. "Do you need anything else from here?"

"Huh?" Raine zoned out, drowning inside her own mind. Her focus floated elsewhere for a good while. Because of that, she failed to get a grasp of what was going on. She just didn't pay attention to what his question was.

"I asked you, Raine. Do you want another cake?" Torak repeated his question patiently.

"Oh, no." Raine averted her gaze from the two Lycans in front of her, and looked at Torak. "Mmh, I think I want two more." She changed her mind.

"Alright." Torak took two more cakes swiftly from the rack. "Is that it? Is it enough now?"

"Yes." Raine nodded.

"Sir, please. We would like to give those cakes for free as a form of our apology." The manager kept insisting on the offer.

But, Torak frowned. "I will present my woman some free things. You can keep it for yourself."

After saying that, Torak left the manager who was standing there dumbfounded. The truth was that the store didn't sell anything cheap, there was not a single thing there that was sold for cheap. The cakes that were sold there were all ultra- expensive, because they used only the best ingredients for each of the cakes. Not only that, all the cakes and sweets there were exclusively made by artisan bakers.

Yet, Torak still refused to get them for free, with that simple reason.

"Oh, how I wish I could have a man like him!" The female shopkeeper from earlier looked at Torak with adoration, she cupped her hands as if she was praying. "God, please… keep one like him for me."

"You better continue to work." The manager glared at her, and left.

Outside the store, after Torak bought those cakes, they walked towards the mall entrance. Above them the sky started to turn dark.

But when they were outside, Calleb and Raphael were waiting for them inside the car.

After she got inside the car, she greeted Raphael, and Calleb cheerfully. And then she said, "Torak, you tricked them."

"Yes, I was." Torak admitted it directly. "Why? Do you perhaps, not like it?"

Raine contemplated for a while. But then, she shrugged her shoulder, while smiling cheekily. "No, they deserved it."
