"If you can't approve of the teacher that I had hired for the position, that you wish to replace this person with someone else.. Sure, I guess you just might have to find one yourself then." Serefina shrugged her shoulder casually while sitting on the sofa behind her. She was completely indifferent, as if Torak's decision didn't affect her at all.

At that moment, Raphael picked up his phone, receiving a phone call from someone. Then right away, he informed the Alpha about it. Turned out, Torak was expected to go somewhere. His presence was absolutely needed for the matter concerning the De Mediccis.

That particular problem had become headline news for the past two days. Many speculations circled around the media about the death of Remi de Medicci. Torak was somehow tangled into it because of his business ties with De Mediccis. And for that reason only, Torak was asked to come, and give his official statement about his recent investment in De Mediccis' company.

Torak was on the highlight. Because the funds that he invested on them salvaged their company from the alleged bankruptcy. How unfortunate for Torak, it wasn't the only reason. Apparently, he was dragged into this Medicci's mess because aside from family members, he was the last person who came into contact with Remi de Medicci. So coincidentally right before Ramon, the brother of Remi, killed him.

"My love, is it okay if I leave you now?" Torak looked at Raine. Truthfully, he didn't mind at all if he had to reschedule that, so he could stay and accompany his mate. After all, Raine had just suffered a deep shock that was caused by Serefina. He didn't want her to go through this hardship all alone. "If you still feel uncomfortable, I can stay here with you, and reschedule the meeting."

Unknowingly, Torak pulled her hair band. Then he twirled her hair between his fingers. He looked into her beautiful eyes. She gave him her sweet, soft smile. "I am alright. You can go." Said Raine.

"Are you sure?" asked Torak. Unaccustomed to this, he was a little baffled by Raine's sudden change. Because right before that, he just witnessed how hysterical she was when Serefina burned the diary. Then, after that she pushed him away, rejecting his presence. But now, she came to him with this determination in her eyes. A new spirit, as if she had been enlightened.

It made him look back to the first time he met her. During those days, Raine would always need more time to recover from some shock events. It made him terribly concerned about her poor condition. But, looking at her now, she wasn't that girl anymore. She had changed. She was no longer afraid to look at him in the eyes. Not only that, she also actually talked with strangers like those guards outside.

Torak noticed all those.

"I am sure." said Raine, nodding to emphasize her words.

Although Torak didn't mind about this change, and actually liked her progress, he wanted to know about what had happened. What was it that made her come up with this decision? Maybe not now, but I will talk to her about it later.—he thought. "I will be back as soon as possible." said Torak. And he leaned over to kiss her forehead.

"Awww! Alpha! Your affection hurt my eyes!" Calleb protested exaggeratedly. Unfortunately, his harmless reaction was regarded with a hit on the back of his head from Raphael. "What?!" He groaned while rubbing his head. It was only Calleb who would be stupid enough to make such remark in this kind of situation. Fortunately for him, Torak had gotten used to his buffoonery, he acted like he didn't hear it.

Torak hugged Raine, and breathed her scent. "Thank you for not being angry at me." He whispered to her ear.

Raine shook her head. "I am sorry for acting the way I did." Her voice was laced with guilt.

"Don't. My love, don't apologize to me." He kissed both of her cheeks, and pecked her lips for a brief moment before he let her go.

Raphael was about to go outside, thinking that Torak would bring him along to the place where he was needed, the Alpha stopped him. "You stay here with Raine. Calleb will come with me." said Torak. He opened the door and walked ahead, leaving his mate and the three of them behind.

"Wait!" Calleb raised both of his hands, he was surprised. "Did the Alpha just say that he would go with me, instead of you?" Pointing his finger at Raphael. "Why? He knows that I don't like to associate with those humans, especially in the law fields!" He whined.

Raphael shrugged his shoulder, and sat down on the sofa across to Serefina, who was reading a newspaper. "I guess it was a form of punishment for your comment earlier." He said lightly.

Since Torak would go with Calleb this time, Raphael would stay there with Raine. He had to take care of some paperwork that needed to be handled anyway.

"No way! He was not that petty…!" Calleb strongly rejected that. But he couldn't hide his doubt in the way he sounded. "Wasn't he?"

Raphael could only roll his eyes, waving his hands towards the Gamma. "You better go now, or else the Alpha would get even more irritated."

Sullenly, Calleb walked out of the room without anything more to say. He was afraid that the Alpha really took offense on his harmless, silly comment earlier. If anything should happen to him, anything at all but getting into the Alpha's nerve.

"Luna, regarding your teacher, which one would you like better? Having a male, or a female teacher?" Raphael asked Raine, who was still standing in the middle of the room.

Raine was wearing dark pyjamas with her hair cascaded beautifully down on her shoulder. Her bare face was slightly pale, because she had just recovered. And her slipper looked bigger than her size. By the sight of it, no one would believe that she was the Alpha's mate. Torak Donovans mate to be exact.

Aside from the curse that condemned the Donovan brothers to be mateless, people would think that Torak would pick a female with Alpha blood as a mate. Raine was completely outside of that category. Yet, for some reason, Raphael was relieved that it was Raine who became Torak's mate. Their personality complimented each other.

If it was an Alpha female who was chosen to be Torak's mate, Raphael could imagine how boring and stern their relationship would be.

"Whichever it is, would be fine." Raine replied to him.

"Good job Raine, you have made the right decision. I am very satisfied with that!" Serefina put down the newspaper in her hand. She smiled triumphantly at Raine, acting like she was deserving of credits over Raine's decision.

Raine looked at her with an expression that devoid from any emotion. She looked like a little child when she did that. However the moment she talked, even Raphael was surprised by her words.

"I'll do the thing that I feel is the right thing to do. But I don't do it for you. So you don't have to feel satisfied with my decision." Raine said that with her clear voice, as she looked at Serefina straight to her eyes. "I don't like you for burning my mother's diary, and the fact that you don't feel a bit of remorse after doing so. If you think I'll let this pass, you are wrong. I will always remember what you have done."

After saying that, Raine turned around and left the room, leaving Raphael and Serefina on their own.

"That's…" Raphael frowned as he tried to find the right words to say. "…bold."

"Well, well, well, isn't it the longest thing that she had ever said?" said Serefina. "But, I like this attitude of her better."
