Silver Wish

Chapter 98 - Learning

"I do have some questions, though."

"About?"

"About myself, was there anything I liked to do? Sometimes when you go away, I don't have anything to do. Recently I have tried cooking, but I do not want to waste the ingredients."

He knew they had limited resources and didn't want to waste them. He would watch the videos on her phone whenever she wasn't around, but sometimes it frustrated him. They looked so happy, but he didn't remember any of it.

'I want her to smile like she did in those videos.' Even though she smiles around him now, he would see the pain behind those smiles.

Lila paused for a moment before she replied. "You liked to write songs; you played every single instrument very well. You loved music."

Haruka looked at her, surprised. 'I liked to write songs? I loved music?' Something felt wrong about that statement. But he knew the girl would never lie to him. "Is there something in the mansion I could use then?"

"Mm. you can borrow my guitar. There are pianos in several rooms too." Lila trailed off. "Tomorrow, I have to go somewhere; you can use that time to try and see if you remember how to play."

Music huh? Haruka looked at her carefully. "Is it the same for you?"

"Mmm, it's the same. You were my manager, and I was your talent." Lila laughed. "It feels like such a long time ago already."

"We were happy despite the complications. So I want to return those times to you, Haruka." Lila mumbled.

"While creating new memories?"

"That's right." Lila suddenly stood up. "I want to create new memories with you, and this time around, have no more regrets."

….

One of the things he has learned since arriving is without her, he is pathetic.

He realizes every moment without her; he ends up doing something stupid. The other day he asked Nobu to get him some cigarettes; he didn't know what he would do with them.

At first, he simply lit it and watched the ash fall, but he got a lighter and started to smoke at some point.

It felt familiar to him. So he looked through his wife's phone and scrolled through her gallery of photos, and saw many of him smoking. So it seemed like he was a heavy smoker. That was another new thing he would add to his list.

He started to create a list of things he learned regarding himself. Not having any memory whatsoever means he has a hard time passing the day when he isn't with her.

Sometimes it is difficult for them to converse since he doesn't have anything to talk about. Maybe that is why when she first kissed him, he ended up taking it too far.

At least when they are doing that, he feels calmer.

Haruka was staring at the instruments in the large room with curiosity. Lila did say she could use whatever, and there are more in the other rooms. But for some reason, the instruments looked very fragile to him, so he looked at them.

Lila told him that he loves music and feels some connection, but something still felt wrong. His thoughts break off when he hears a ringing sound. Haruka took out his phone from his pocket.

Right this phone, she gave it to him last night. 'If your lonely, you can call me anytime!'

From: My wife

Haruka, are you awake already? I want to call you for a bit.

He typed okay, and she immediately called him.

"Ah, sorry for disturbing you. Have you had breakfast? I made you something earlier."

"Yeah, I ate."

"Also, I am sorry for leaving you all alone. I didn't realize that the others wouldn't be around too. Ah, you don't have to worry. I am not out alone. Kouta-kun is with me."

Right he noticed that when he went past the room, Kanehera was in. It was a shame since he did want to talk to the blonde more. Even if they were not close, he was supposedly close with the sister. Haruka wanted a bit more details.

He wants to respect his wife's decision.

"When will you come back?"

"Mm, I shouldn't belong. Perhaps around a bit after lunchtime?"

As she spoke, he caught a glimpse of something from the corner of his eye. Right beside a silver-colored guitar was a notebook. Haruka walked towards it and recognized his wife's writing. Are these lyrics?

"What are you doing?"

"I'm in the blue room, there are a lot of instruments here, and your guitar is here too."

Lila laughed. "I didn't think you would find it that quickly. Mm, you can use anything there."

"Also, just now, I found something that looks like lyrics."

At that comment, he suddenly received a video call request from her. Haruka accepted and saw how red her face was. "Y--You can't look at that!"

"It's a bit too late." Actually, he had bȧrėly glanced at the first page, but this was the first time seeing her react this way.

Lila shyly looked down. "If you're going to have a look anyway, you can try writing some music for it. Although I am unsure if everything will come back to you once you hold an instrument, it is worth a shot."

Write music for her lyrics? For some reason, the idea made him feel happy.

Haruka's gaze fell on her surroundings. Although she tried to hide it as much as possible, he saw a lot of collapsed buildings and rubble. Is that what the outside looks like?

In the garden, there are large walls that reach up to the sky, so he couldn't see much. If the condition is that bad to the point that the skies are grey, then Haruka frowned. The air pollution must be bad. He has observed that his wife's condition isn't very good.

"Do you have a mask?" Haruka asked.

For a moment, she seemed puzzled before her gaze softened, and she laughed. "I am okay, Haruka. I told you before that people like me have sturdier bodies than most."

Right, that was another thing he learned. His wife is not human; those with supernatural powers cause this whole mess outside.

Humans with evolved genetics, huh? Anybody who heard that would have a hard time believing it. But there were occasions where he had a strange thirst, and she would make him a peculiar cherry drink. So he believed her right away.

"I am still worried; please be careful."

'If the world is so dangerous right now. I wonder why she goes outside a lot.'

Haruka, however kept those comments to himself. The more questions he asked, the more ignorant he felt.. It would be better for him to better understand the situation before saying anything unusual.
