What is he doing fighting alone somewhere, and why did he take her child? She wants to see him, but the touch she dėsɨrės the most even now is her husband. "How is the situation in New York?"

It seemed like the day she chose to leave, New York ended up in lockdown too. Even long before Haruka and she came there, other places were starting to get affected. But they failed to notice these signs.

At that comment, she noticed the two looking at each other, awkwardly back and forth. Shougo reluctantly pulled something out from the corner. It was several newspaper articles.

Karashima Haruka and his female companion living together?

Several pictures of her husband and somebody she knew all too well—one picture of the two shopping and one entering a fancy apartment complex.

"Lila, relax I am sure this is just--"

"The media stirring things up, I know that." Lila nodded. But she still felt a heavy pain in her heart as she stared at the photos. The two looked comfortable and indeed appeared like a couple. It is not unusual for the media to misunderstand.

"I am surprised people are still reporting things like this with the current situation. Are they blind?" Eijiro said.

That's right, all across the world, everybody is experiencing severe famine and danger. The danger she speaks of is the out of control forced evolved humans with unusual abilities. By forced, she means these individuals did not have abilities, to begin with. But due to a certain drug by that man, these individuals manifested supernatural powers. However, since they were not power users from the start, it naturally led to side effects.

Lila tapped the edge of the newspaper. "People still prefer idle gossip during this time. Haruka is protecting Rikka-san because there is nobody else there. I am glad that he is doing this since Rikka is a potential target too."

"Your okay with your man defending another woman?"

Light laughter escaped her lips. "No, I am not. I am no saint. I am indeed uncomfortable about this situation. But remember I was the one who left. I knew if I was no longer around, Haruka could freely do what he wants. He wants to protect those dear to him." She trailed off and recalled her last exchange with her husband. "That person no longer wants to lose anybody important."

Lila did not realize how badly her accident caused him mental scars. It seemed like from that point on; he decided that he would protect those important.

"Your husband is a piece of work. It seems like he has been using all his contacts to find you. Of course, I made sure to erase the trace, but do you not want to see him?" Eijiro questioned.

Of course, she wants to see him. She longs for him to hold her in his arms again, call her name lovingly and give her affectionate kisses and hugs. But during this situation, she knew better than to ask for something so selfish.

Haruka knew what the situation was like in New York and wanted to investigate. During those times, he disappeared and he was most likely investigating.

To think she often accused him of spending time with other women. Now that she thought it through, it was rather petty and childish of her. To think she did something like that before. Why did she waste so much time? She wasted so much time behaving like that.

Lila felt the pain in her head increase. In the next second, she felt the itch in her throat. Unlike a few months ago where she coughed due to her morning sickness, this was different. A stream of blood came out of her mouth.

Shougo looked at her and panicked. "Lila-chan!"

Eijiro scolded him. "Don't yell!" He exclaimed and ran his hands through her back. "I will get you more medicine. But I don't think you should go anywhere today. Last night you were fighting until late."

"I guess I will take you up on that offer," Lila mumbled. She knew better than to argue due to her condition.

These days her body did not feel like her own anymore. She could move her limbs and walk normally. But she often ended up unable to walk after using so much of her power. At first, Lila ȧssumed it was due to the side effects of not using her ability for so long. But she quickly learned that it was due to the lack of blood intake.

Blood huh? Humans with strange genetics aside, why does she crave blood? Why do hanyous, half-humans like herself crave blood? Why is it blood? It makes little sense.

Eijiro laid her back down on the bed. "Shougo, go get the food."

"Aye aye, sir." With those words, Shougo bolted out of her room.

He picked up the newspaper and placed it in her ŀȧp. "Look again, do you think nothing is going on between those two? Every time I look at the images, I think something is happening. But he is your husband, and you know him better."

Lila looked at one of the photos where Haruka had his arm around Rikka. A deep sigh passed her lips. "Well, even I cant tell through a photo. I just know that I have to trust him." Right now, they are apart and cannot meet. So if she can't even trust him, then it is hopeless.

"Alright." Eijiro seemed reluctant but nodded. "If you feel that way, then we will trust Karashima too. But Lila, if the rumors about those two end up being true, please leave him. Do not bother seeing him again. You understand, right?" He trailed off. "Kiryu waited for you this entire time. Your feelings for him never disappeared either. If your husband likes another woman, let him go."

She understood that better than anybody. If Haruka genuinely liked Rikka, why would she get in his way? Besides, "There are more important things to worry about right now. Last night, those people I fought seemed stronger than before."

Eijiro looked perplexed at her comment. "So you noticed it too."

"Too?" She raised her eyebrow and sighed. "I told you before if you discover anything, just tell me."

"It was Shichiro's idea, not mine."

"Since when did you obediently listen to what others tell you?"

Eijiro sighed.. "Since I started looking after a woman who ran away from her husband."
