Chapter 113 - They walk amoung us...

Logan sighed angrily as he exhaled removed his fist from a wall. Logan had walked away from his parents to take a call from Salem. Just the tone of her voice was just enough to anger Logan greatly. A few hours before the surgery could finish, she had sensed a massive flux of energy; the very same that was present in all summonings. Logan understood what it meant, the King of Grimm had tried to summon the Brother Gods back to Remnant. She wasn't sure what was summoned and asked Logan to go scout it, Logan agreed and hung up.

.

This was where Logan became angry.

.

He had two options. One was to rush off and deal with whatever was summoned which could take weeks; weeks that his sisters would be stuck in a hospital feeling nothing but pain without morphine. Or, he could stay here and heal his sister's first, even if it was just his golden flames, before heading out after losing valuable time but they would not be completely healed and still be stuck in the hospital. Either way, Logan was had to choose. The chance to mess up any plans the Brother Gods may have or his sister's health. Both were important to him yet he was being forced to chose.

.

Unfortunately, his [System] chose for him as something he has gotten very familiar with over the years appeared before his eyes.

Logan: "Why can't shite be easy for once." Logan growled under his breath.

Sophia: "You okay Logan?" Sophia asked as she came running over when she heard Logan punch the wall. "What happened?"

Logan: "...The council just ordered a mission to be given priority status." Logan sighed as he lied to her. "Do to the nature and time-sensitivity of the mission, it needs to be done as fast as possible. The rest of the Kingdoms are deploying their best Hunters and I was tasked to lead the mission."

Sophia: "When do you need to leave?" Sophia asked as she saw the difficulty in Logan's eyes.

Logan: "Now." Logan spoke quietly. "But I don't want to leave Ava and Eva like this when I can help them."

Sophia: "Go, Logan." Sophia said as she kissed his forehead. "They'll understand and when you get back you can heal them then. So, go. Get it done as fast as you can and come back. Okay?"

Logan: "Will do." Logan said as he kissed her cheek. "Give them that when they wake up will you?"

Sophia: "Will do." Sophia said as she watched Logan rush off and out of the hospital.

.

Sophia had walked over to a window and watched as Logan flew off into the distance. She felt sadness almost overwhelmed her as she did. But, in the end, she sighed sadly and walked away.

Azrael: "Where'd Logan run off to?" Azrael asked as Sophia walked back over to the operating room doors.

Sophia: "Vale's Council just ordered a priority mission with the other Kingdoms taking part." Sophia told Azrael as she sat down next to him. "Logan was made the lead of it and he had to run off."

Azrael: "I'm guessing he didn't want to leave." Azrael said when he sensed his wife's sadness.

Sophia: "He didn't want to leave until after he healed the girls." She explained. "But, due to the mission itself, he had no choice but to leave."

Azrael: "It will be fine, Honey." Azrael grabbed her hand and slowly did circles on it with his thumb. "Knowing Logan, he will do his absolute best to get it done as soon as he can and rush back to just make sure his sisters are okay. He is that type of kid- no, that type of man."

Salem wasn't having a good day. First, it started with her favorite teacup cracking. Then it was her teapot went missing. After that, she was stuck in the elevator to her husband's office for thirty minutes. And to top it all off, she sensed a massive disturbance in the energies of the world. One she recognized as a summoning happening. Since she wasn't able to leave Ozpin alone or he would slack off in his work and Glynda was off due to her pregnancy, she opted to call Logan and inform him of it. Salem already knew that Logan's sisters were in surgery, he had told her about it during their call, and she would have understood if he had waited until they were out of surgery. But, due to the amount of energy used in the summoning, she had insisted that he go and search for it. And after they hung up, she felt bad about it but it wasn't something that they could have waited to later to do.

Salem: "Why do I feel like this will only get worse?" Salem sighed as she asked herself.

Ozpin: "What was that, dear?" Ozpin asked from behind a stack of paper. "I didn't hear you clearly from back here. Could you repeat it please?"

Salem: "It was more to myself Oz." Salem said as she brought him a cup of coffee.

Ozpin: "Humor me," Ozpin said as he moved a pile off his desk and onto the floor. "I may be able to help with whatever it is."

Salem: "Logan was just at the hospital, his sister had an accident that required them needing surgery to survive." Salem begun. "But, before their surgery was over, I felt a massive flux of energy. The same way a summoning would have it happen, but just on a massive scale. It was too large to ignore so I sent him to find the cause of it. I insisted on it." Salem then sighed heavily. "I just feel bad about it now."

Ozpin: "Salem, the love of my life, we both know what Logan is like from working with him for so long now." Ozpin said as he looked at his wife. "If it spooked you enough for you to insist on it and he left for it, then just make it up to him when he gets back."

Salem: "You're right, but I can't help but feel as though it will get worse."

Ozpin: "Whatever it was, I'm sure Logan can handle it."

.

.

It didn't take long for Logan to fly out of Vale and out of sight before he took out the compass that was given to him by the mission. It looked like a simple wooden box with the compass inside with an arrow pointing to where he needed to go. Logan couldn't help but think back to those pirate movies back in his old world, the ones with that sparrow character. He couldn't remember the character's name, but he could remember Eve constantly mimicking the lies every time she watched those movies.

.

Shaking the stray thoughts from his head, Logan flew faster as he wanted to get this over to help his sisters and he couldn't help but feel something was off. Like he wasn't seeing something important.

.

It took about an hour to find the sight of the summoning ritual which wasn't all that hard to find. There was still the outline of the spell matrix left on the ground in a mixture of Dust and chalk. At the eight points that made up part of it were containers. Four housed what looked like liquid dust that had then been crystallized, but they now stood empty. The other four had massive urns that Logan could tell just from the feel of them alone that they had the ashes of countless people inside once upon a time. But now, the place was devoid of life bar Logan as he stood and surveyed the sight before him.

.

Pull the compass out of his [Inventory] Logan face the direction it was pointing and glanced at it. All that surrounded Logan was a vast plain that was only covered in grass and small shrubbery. At most, nothing larger than a fox would live in the area if one doesn't account for Grimm. But, for Logan, there was nothing in sight, and as he flew up, what he saw only confirmed this. Absolutely nothing in sight.

.

.

It would have been idyllic if it wasn't for the entire population carving out a massive room in the cliffside. Men, women, and children regardless of age or disability were either carving our or moving stones. Over a third of what were once fields were not trampled and being dug up for what appeared to be foundations for a massive castle. So far, what looked like the main hall and a tower were almost complete and from what Logan could tell, this was where he needed to be. That, and the compass was pointing towards the half-built castle.

.

As Logan went to descend towards the village, he suddenly was met with a wall of arrows. Acting quickly, Logan made a wall of crimson flames in front of him and barreled through it after the arrows made contact. Fanning out his wings, Logan saw that a small dispatch of villagers were armed with bows and arrows as they rode on the backs of Ursas. Logan cursed mentally and dove down to met them head-on. As he got close, Logan pulled out his [Ace of Spades] and headshot all the Ursas before he hit the ground. Hitting the ground, Logan didn't give any of the villagers a chance to react before he knocked them all out with the flat side of his longsword.

.

Logan: 'Not surprising.' Logan thought as he bought a lot of rope from his [System: Store] and began to tie them up. 'If the Brother Gods made avatars, they would make sure that they could control those they believe to be below them. But, where is King? Did they get rid of him when they were summoned? It would make sense to eliminate someone that could control Grimm if I were them. Then again, they are incredibly vain.'

.

As Logan worked on tying the villagers up, he could feel several presences sneaking close to him. Whipping around, Logan leveled his [Ace of Spades] at those who were behind him. Only to find a small band of children looking at him caution and darting their eyes towards those he had captured. It didn't take long for Logan to notice that these kids weren't under the control of whichever Brother God was controlling the others, he then gestured for them to take them but told them not to untie them for their own safety. After that, he walked off before coming back, acting like he was picking up a backpack he threw off during his dive. He tossed it to the kids, telling them there were MREs and survival tools inside. After telling them to take it, Logan wandered off towards the village, planning on how to ȧssault the village without too much damage done to the village itself. After all, he couldn't really go and nuke this place without worrying about there being no innocent lives nearby.

.

But the time Logan pulled himself from his thoughts, he was already standing in front of the massive gate that blocked the entrance to the village. Above the gate had a sign that read, 'Satul Valea' (Romanian). The Gate also showed recent upgrades, them being thicker stone, wood reinforcements, and the addition of metal plates. None of them were older than a week.

.

Child: "Ever since those two Faunus came, people have been acting weirder than normal." A kid from before spoke as he walked up to Logan, the sentries on the wall doing nothing to stop them.

Logan: "Really?" Logan acted surprised. "Well then, that makes things easier since I was hunting those two."

Child: "You're here to kill them." The child spoke, his tone firm.

Logan: "A kid like you shouldn't speak of killing so easily." Logan said, his eyes still wandering over the wall.

Child: "My father was a Hunter." The kid said, his tone still firm. "We were outside hunting for animals when they came and everyone started acting weird. He got out the few that were still fine before he was shot in the back by those that were controlled by arrows. Those of us that remained safe did our best to survive in the woods, doing our best to not get caught. Those that were, joined in with them in the mines."

Logan: "I see, anything I should know?" Logan asked as he looked at the kid.

Child: "They won't attack unless they perceive you as a threat, try to touch the wall, or if they were the ones you took out from before. Those are the ones that go searching for those who escaped." The kid told Logan, looking at him in the eyes, his green staring straight at Logan's blue and grey. "There are also Grimm inside, they're the ones acting as heavy lifters and pulling the carts when needed."

Logan: "How do you know all this?" Logan asked, readying himself in case the kid was being controlled.

Child: "I've already unlocked my semblance. I call it 'Vanish'." The kid told Logan. "I was born with apathy, I don't feel any emotion. That, plus my semblance, makes it impossible to see or notice me. Not even those two Faunus noticed when I stole things from the village to help those that got away. I also managed to look around quite a bit."

Logan: "I see." Logan said as the kid showed no tells of lying. "I'll what I can. But, the worst-case scenario is the destruction of the village and the surrounding area."

Child: "There's a cave about six of seven hundred meters East from here." The kid told Logan, turning and pointing in the opposite direction with his thumb while taping his other hand five times on his side. "That's where we're all staying."

Logan: "I'll keep that in mind." Logan said as he noticed the guards looking at them now. 'Kid's smart, I'll give him that. Looks like he's managed to figure out that they can relay information to the Brother Gods. Once this is over, I should see what I can do for the kid.'
