RWBY: Fireborn

Chapter 109 - The Aftermath

-With the Brother Gods-

.

Currently, the God of Light and the God of Darkness of Remnant watched as Logan saved Vale. Overcome with anger, the God of Darkness, Nox, started swearing and cursing Logan to the high heavens while his brother, the God of Light, Lux, watched on curiously. After a while, Nox turned to his brother.

.

Nox: "Brother, we have to do something." Nox stated. "He's ruining all of our plans. If we don't do something, we'll be stuck on this dying rock until it dies and kills us along with it!"

Lux: "Shush, I've noticed something about this, 'Savior', that was sent to our world..." Lux said slowly. "I don't believe he's been checking in with whoever sent him..."

Nox: "What are you talking about?" Nox asked as he went back to watching the projection of Logan Scarlett.

Lux: "I've been examining this 'System' of his ever since we first met him face to face." Lux spoke. "After our failed attempt to use it in our favor, I've been keeping an eye on it. So far, it appears to only give him missions with rewards along with a store to buy things. Plus there's the auxiliary part that lets him store things inside it. Other than those abilities, he seems to focus more on personal ability rather than instant strength growth."

Nox: "So?"

Lux: "Don't you see?" Lux asked. "He was never sent here to 'fix' our world as we thought. If he was, then the fastest way would be to rule the world as soon as he could. However, he seems to be just living his life as a more powerful Faunus. All his doings are just pure chance that they had interfered with our plans."

Nox: "So what? We just have to wait for him to pass on like normal?" Nox asked.

Lux: "We could, but I have a better idea of how to get rid of him..."

Nox: "Oh? Do tell..."

.

As Nox asked, the projection changed to that of Salem and Ozpin.

[With Karma]

.

Karma: "Oh?" Karma said looking up from her work. "It seems my thoughts were right."

Auren: "What are you talking about?" Auren asked as he was right next to her. "I'm in the middle of researching what that mortal said, I could do without interruption."

Karma: "That mortal, as you've put it, has just unlocked a small drop of Divinity." Karma giggled. "Though it is just a drop in the vast oceans that are known throughout the realms. But a droplet nonetheless."

Auren: "What did you send him as." Auren suddenly demanded.

Karma: "He chose it ability himself." Karma answered. "Though he had the smallest chance possible to achieve it. That I made sure of. Even I know that I can't just give away Divinity to those who haven't worked for or were born to it."

Auren: "*Sigh* What were his chances?" Auren asked as he put a hand on his face.

Karma: "Well..."

[With Logan]

.

.

Getting out of bed was easy enough for him, yet it felt to Logan like he was moving through water as he did it. There was resistance, yet it was only minor. Once Logan had some undėrwėȧr, pants, socks, and shoes on thanks to his [Inventory] he pulled IV drip along with him as he walked out of the room. Outside, Logan met with a doctor that was surprised he woke up. After a quick check-up from the doctor, Logan had his IV removed and was let go. Logan didn't question why the doctor didn't ask where the clothes came from and just left. He chalked it up to the doctor seeing weird things from other Hunters. And according to the doctor, Logan had been out for almost six weeks.

.

Outside, Logan saw that Vale had pretty much recovered from the unexpected ȧssault. Though there were still under martial law by Ozpin until the CCT was repaired according to a passing Hunter Logan asked. Sighing, Logan started walking towards Beacon as that was where he was directed to by the Hunter now that he woke up while seeing how everything was going himself. Logan figured it would be good to see what was going on behind the scenes, away from prying eyes, by visiting Beacon first, then he'll go find Glynda and check on her. Though, he highly doubt that she wouldn't be too far from her desk from all the reports she would have got.

.

As Logan waited for the lift to Beacon, he had noticed his reflection on a shop window. Other than the pair of jeans and boots he always wore, the Doctor had given him a green, short sleeve flannel buŧŧon-up shirt. While the color wasn't something he would wear, that being a mute green, he liked the style. Simple, yet good-looking. It was a stray thought.

.

Once the lift arrived, Logan made his way through a few Hunters that were leaving. As Logan waited for the lift to make its way to Beacon, he took his time to organize his thoughts since he awoke. But as he did, Logan noticed that there were a few Hunters in the lift with him that were eyeing him. Logan just chalked it up to them sizing him up since he had no weapons visible on him that they could see. Logan ignored them and waited for the lift to stop.

.

Soon, Logan was greeted with Beacon's iconic main road, though there were quite a lot of tents scattered around the campus. It wasn't that hard to figure out why, after all, a very large portion of the residential district of Vale was reduced to rubble from the attack. Those that were here were families that were displaced and had nowhere to go. While they were at Beacon, they were given a place to stay, even if it was a tent, meals, clothes, and medical attention if there wasn't any room in the emergency shelters. But, Logan could tell that a lot still had nowhere to go even after six weeks.

.

After making his way through the mass of tents, both simple and complex, Logan found himself at the elevator to Ozpin's office. Pressing the elevator controls presented to him that it was locked from public use. Sighing, Logan looked around before he took his scroll out of his [Inventory] and swiped it to unlock the controls; since he was a teacher, he could do that. After waiting and getting on the elevator, Logan was glad as he felt it start to rise. But, as he waited, Logan could feel the gazes on his back. However, Logan could tell these were from civilians that were displaced. Whether they had good or bad intentions behind those gazes is what worried Logan.

.

As soon as the elevator stopped and the doors slid open, Logan was greeted by piles and piles of paperwork that covered Ozpin's desk and part of his office floor. Ozpin could be seen at his desk, face down with several papers on top of his head. Logan could hear him lightly snoring from the elevator plus the familiar smell of his 'Liquid Death' coffee was pungent in the air. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Ozpin had been here for a while just doing paperwork. Logan looked around and saw that neither Glynda nor Salem was here so he left a note saying he woke up and a bag of his 'Liquid Death' coffee mix for Ozpin. After setting the note and bag down gently, Logan made his way back to the elevator and left having seen Hell and wanting no part of it.

.

As he walked out back onto the ground floor, Logan met up with Salem.

.

Salem: "Oh, Logan. It's good to see you're finally up." Salem said as she met him.

Logan: "Yeah, I woke not too long ago." Logan commented as he felt the gazes return. "So what happened when I was out?"

Salem: "Quite a bit, I'm afraid." Quilt dripping from her voice. "Come, I'll explain on the way."

.

Salem then walked by Logan, back into the elevator Logan just left. Logan mentally shrugged and followed along.

.

Salem: "For the six months you've been out, the first three have been the hardest." Salem spoke when the doors closed and they started to ascend. "In those three weeks, we've only managed to do very little. We managed to repair the walls but that took two weeks with the damage and managed to repair the CCT just enough to get morse code out but we are unsure if anyone managed to receive the signals. However, we're afraid the other Kingdoms had received the signals but have chosen not to help."

.

Logan: "So Vale may be stranded without help." Logan summarized. "What about Menagerie? They should have had their version of the CCT up already. Plus with all their advances in recent years, they should have been able to send help.

Salem: "That's another thing." Salem spoke quietly. "Menagerie did send people to help..."

Logan: "But?"

Salem: "But, out of the four ships they sent, only two made it to port with one towing the other." Salem said. "And out of the three hundred or so people that were sent, less than 20 were able to be saved."

Logan: "Who, or what attacked them." Logan said, his voice steady but laced with venom.

Salem: "They aren't sure." Salem said. "The attack happened at night and was swift. From what the few Faunus that could see in the dark could tell, they appeared to be Manta aircraft painted a dark blue and grey. They dived bombed the ships and dropped darts onto them with an aircraft or two having them loaded with Burn Dust. Two ships were lost in the first volley and on the second pass, they just dropped the darts and left, right afterward."

.

Logan: "The chances that it was Atlas?" Logan asked as he tried to calm himself down.

Salem: We aren't sure, but we haven't discounted them as of yet." Salem told Logan as the elevator stopped and opened.

Logan: "What else?" Logan asked while sighing.

Salem: "Can't you see?" Salem asked while gesturing towards all the paperwork. "While the first three weeks were the hardest, the following weeks were just flooded with paperwork that both I and Ozpin have been having a hard time dealing with. This week is his turn to write and I run and organize what's needed and when." Then she noticed the note and coffee bag. "Thank you for the coffee, that blend of yours is a lifesaver for when things are needed for the next day."

Logan: "It was obvious." Logan shrugged. "What about Glynda and my family?"

Salem: "They've been helping where they could." Salem said. "Glynda, on the other hand, has been kept on the sidelines and been the one ordering the Hunters around to make sure things are working well. Though she has been pushing herself for the last two days, I've been keeping an eye on her. I just go back from telling her to go and rest in your dorm. That's where she should be."

.

Logan: "I see." Logan said, a little unhappy at Glynda pushing herself. "Anything major needing done?"

Salem: "Nothing that couldn't be handled by others. But, are YOU okay?" Salem asked.

Logan: "A little sluggish, but I'm good overall. Why?" Logan asked curiously.

Salem: "Logan, I'm not sure how but during the attack, you used actual Divinity." Salem said which shocked Logan. "It may just have been a drop in the oceans of Remnant, but it was divinity."

Logan: "Are you sure?" Logan asked. 'Ozpin did say he felt some when I truly unlocked my aura and semblance back in Patch all those years ago, but I've never used any before.'

Salem: "Logan, my curse made me extremely sėnsɨtɨvė to all energies." Salem explained. "Divinity is one I will never mistake. Not only that, but the Divinity I felt from you was... The best way I could describe it would be, pure. Like life itself given form."

.

As soon as Logan heard what Salem said, he checked his [Status] and found it saying [Exhausted] and a notification saying [Divinity Detected]. Logan wasn't sure what they meant, but when he tried to activate his aura, he couldn't. What he did made him unable to use his aura for the moment and he didn't know for how long. Not even his semblance worked.

.

Logan then explained this to Salem. She wasn't surprised as the Divinity, She believed that when he ran out, it most likely exhausted him greatly and this was the aftereffect of it. Salem guessed that Logan would be like this for a while. Logan sighed and said he was going to go and check on Glynda and rest until he was able to use his aura again. Salem didn't mind and said she would let Ozpin know.

.

Logan left and headed off to his dorm where he found a sleeping Glynda on the couch. Logan smiled happily and picked her up in a princess carry. He ended up taking her to the bedroom and laid her down then laid down next to her. Glynda unconsciously hugged Logan when she felt the familiar warmth next to her.. Logan smile as he drifted off to sleep as he hugged Glynda tightly.
