Reborn In Pokemon With Only Appraisal

Chapter 8 - Start of the Journey

-- 2 years later --

It had been two years since the two children had caught their first pokemon and officially become pokemon trainers.

During this period of time, the kids had been training and studying under the guide of Professor Carolina.

Their studies were much more advanced compared to what most children were taught before they officially started and even superior to some veteran trainers. Although Professor Carolina specialized in ruins and ancient civilizations, she was still very knowledgeable about pokemon. And she passed this knowledge onto Cynthia and Xander.

Even Xander who had inherited information about the pokemon world from his past life found out many things he didn't know. Even some things he believed to be facts were false.

One thing, in particular, was the number of legendary pokemon. Several pokemon that had the legendary status in his world did not have it in this world. This was due to them having far too weak abilities and powers compared to others, the pokemon being unconfirmed, and there being too many of some pokemon such as the Legendary Birds.

Xander had also learned how to read his appraisal menu. By reading it correctly, he could determine the ranks of pokemon. He also learned that each rank after 'F' was pretty much equivalent to every 10 levels in the game.

So an E-rank pokemon had strength that was comparable to a level-10 while a B rank was comparable to a level 40 pokemon.

The pair of children were not just studying during this period of time. They had each trained both of their pokemon to reach their next rank in strength.

Horus, Yuki, and Spartan were all C-rank pokemon now while Gabby was close to reaching the B-rank. Gabby would have already evolved into a Gabite if it had met the right opportunity.

Cynthia was sitting next to Carolina while Xander stood behind her and was massaging her shoulders.

"Grandma Carolina, would you like some tea?" Xander asked as he pressed deeply into her shoulders

Carolina let out a mȯȧn of delight when she felt the strength of his arms. She had been working late in the lab after they discovered some new ruins out in the ocean.

"That would be delightful, Xan," Carolina said with her eyes closed

Xander shot Cynthia a look and the girl immediately poured a cup of tea for her grandmother. She also placed a plate of cookies she baked in front of the woman.

"Here you go, Granny. I also baked these cookies myself," Cynthia gave her offerings to Carolina

"Thank you, Cyn," Carolina said before taking a bite of one of the cookies, "Oh my! These are delicious. Your baking skills have gotten even better."

Cynthia smiled brightly when she heard the compliment. The girl loved sweets but they lived too far from a major city to get her cravings filled. So the girl took up baking in order to make sweets for herself and had been improving at a rapid pace.

The two children were very attentive to Carolina and did everything they could think of that way she would give them permission to start their pokemon journey.

Carolina had long seen through their plans though.

'Tsk. Stupid brats know how to coax someone before asking for a favor. I bet their parents taught them that.'

Even though Carolina knew what they wanted, she still enjoyed her day of being pampered and relaxed before she finally spoke up.

"Hmm. That was fun. You two can go on your pokemon journey," Carolina declared before waving them off

"But we will be extra careful and watch over each other. We can call you every time we reach a pokemon center," Cynthia began begging without listening to the actual answer

"We have our pokemon with us that are super strong compared to others our age. We will definitely be safe from wild pokemon and evil trainers," Xander said at the same time

After both of them spoke, they finally realized what Carolina had said

"Wait? We can go!?!?" they asked in incredulous unison

Carolina nodded while sipping her tea

"Yes. I trust you both to be able to handle yourselves. I've kept you here for a year past when you were ready so it is time to let you both go out and make names for yourselves. I've also been neglecting my work. I need to focus back on that as well."

Xander and Cynthia hugged each other as they jumped with joy. They thought that Carolina would be a much harder person to convince but did not realize that she was so understanding.

Carolina told the pair that they could leave the next day so each of them hurried to their homes to grab the bags they packed months ago. Both of them met up at Carolina's lab and decided to sleep there since they would have to come back in the morning.

As both of them lay in the same bed, the duo could not help but giggle and whisper all night long as they talked about how epic their pokemon journey would be.

"We're gonna be the best trainers!" Xander said with enthusiasm

"Hmm. Let's become league champions within the next year. I'm gonna win it first and you can win after me," Cynthia declared

"No way! I'm gonna become champion first and you can win the next one," Xander quickly denied. He didn't want to lose to Cynthia even if was the future champion of the region

The pair spent so much time arguing that night about who would get to be champion first, that when Carolina saw them both around dawn the next day, each of the kids had bags under their eyes.

Seeing both of them look like little pandas, Carolina could not help but laugh at their goofy expressions. Both of the kids went red with embarrassment.

Carolina laughed for a few more seconds before she pulled out two boxes and placed them in front of each of the kids.

The pair opened the boxes and were greeted by thick, digital watches. Both of them were black but each one had different colored, crystal veins in them.

The veins in Xander's watch were a light blue that resembled blue diamonds while the veins in Cynthia's watch were a light shade of pink seemingly cut from pink pearls.

"These are pokemon watches or poketches for short. They are some of the most advanced pieces of technology in Sinnoh that even money can't guarantee a person could buy. They come with a bunch of advanced features such as synching your ID to the pokemon league, acting as a Pokedex, as well as a bunch of other apps.

But most importantly, it also allows for wireless communication so you can call me whenever you need me. I have already saved my personal ID in both of yours as well as the other's ID in case either of you ever gets separated."

After letting the kids play with their new watches for a few minutes, Carolina coughed and got their attention.

"Have you two decided where your first stop will be?"

"Of course, Grandma Carolina! Our first stop is Eterna City. That way we can get bikes from their famous bike shop. We can also pass under the mountain to look for some awesome pokemon on the way," Xander explained the plan the pair had come up with the night before

"We can also challenge the gym while we are there and get our first badge," Cynthia told her their main goal as well. While they wanted more pokemon to make full teams and get bikes to travel easier, their main goal was still to collect all the badges.

Carolina nodded. She could clearly see how strong both of their pokemon were. At their current level, they could get 4 or 5 badges before Gym Leaders would start using pokemon around their level.

"Good. Then off you two go. We don't want the whole village to know you guys are leaving otherwise your trip will get delayed by at least a week."

Xander and Cynthia nodded. They knew that the villagers loved them but it could get a bit much at certain times.

After each of them gave Carolina a big hug, the duo quickly departed from the town. Once they were at the exit/entrance to the village both of them stopped.

"Remember. Once we leave, we can't come back until we both win the league," Cynthia said to Xander

"Of course. Otherwise, we would be giving up halfway."

And so, both the young trainers took their first step out the village where they would not return for a long time as they began their pokemon journey.
