Reborn In Pokemon With Only Appraisal

Chapter 7 - Let's go!

The pair of kids stood opposite from each other on the little plot of dirt on the side of the town. Standing in between them was Carolina who would be acting as the referee.

When the villagers around town saw that the two kids were about to have their first pokemon battle, a crowd began to form and cheer for each of them. Over 40 people had gathered around that little plot to watch two kids have a pokemon battle.

This was not just because they were currently the only kids in the village but also because of their recent outing. The entire population of Celestic Town had heard how these two tried to fight some wild pokemon with sticks. After initiating the fight themselves.

"Go, Cynthia!"

"You can do it, Xander!"

"Come on, you two! Show us what great trainers you're gonna be!"

Each of the ȧduŀts was taking turns deciding which kid they would cheer for. No one really wanted to see the other child lose so they were being supportive to both.

Hearing all the praise and cheers, Xander and Cynthia began to blush with all the ȧduŀts around them. As bold as both of them may have been, they were still young children.

"Alright, alright. Calm down, all of you. If you keep cheering like that, these two might develop stage fright," Carolina quickly tried to calm down the crowd after letting them cheer for a few minutes

Hearing her reminder, the rest of the villagers stopped cheering so loudly but did not back away from the temporary stage. The town wanted to see just how talented the two 'heroes' were when it came to picking pokemon.

Once the crowd was calm, Carolina spoke again.

"Perfect. You are all here so I will explain the rules but they will not be too complicated since it will be their first battle.

This will be a two on two battle between Cynthia and Xander. Your pokemon will be retired from the match if it faints, the trainer surrenders the round, or if I say it has sustained too many injuries. You are not allowed to recall your pokemon before either of those times. Pokemon are also not allowed to attack opposing trainers.

Do both trainers consent to these rules?"

"Of course," Cynthia said as she pulled off one of the balls from her belt

"Got it, Grandma Carolina," Xander confirmed before taking a Pokeball out of his pocket

Carolina nodded at both of them

"Good. Then bring out your first pokemon."

"I need your ȧssistance, Spartan!"

"Take the stage, Horus!"

The kids threw out their pokeballs at the same time. Both made an arc in the air before releasing a beam of white light on the ground before returning to their respective trainers.

When the white light dissipated, both pokemon were standing about 5 feet away from each other.

Riolu had the look of a little warrior on his face. He did several kicks and punches against the air in an attempt to intimidate Larvesta.

In response to this, Horus let out small torrents of flames from each of its horns before taking to the sky as it got to over 10 feet tall.

Seeing that Horus could actually fly, Cynthia's jaw nearly dropped.

"No way! How can a larva fly?"

Carolina laughed at her granddaughter's ignorance. When it came to pokemon, nothing was impossible.

"Alright. Let the match...begin!"

Xander knew he should take advantage of Horus' flight and long-range attacks to take down Spartan easily.

"Horus, use string shot!"

Horus let out a hissing sound before firing webbing from his mouth. The web caught Spartan by one of his legs and wrapped around. The little pokemon could bȧrėly move with the web holding him back.

'Crap! This is a terrible match-up,' thought to herself as she realized the disadvantages Spartan had against.

"I forfeit this round," Cynthia called out to Carolina

Seeing her granddaughter surrender, Carolina smiled and nodded as she felt proud of her little girl.

'Good. She is not so stupid as to fight a battle she knows she will lose and will not benefit her at all.'

"Fine. The winner of the first round is Horus by surrender. Send out your next pokemon, Cynthia," Carolina commanded

Cynthia nodded before pulling out her other Pokeball and whispering to it "I'm counting on you, Gabby," before arcing the ball and releasing the pokemon onto the field.

Gabby appeared in the middle of the field and growled at Horus as soon as she arrived. Horus hissed back in response as sparks clashed between the two.

Without even being issued commands, both pokemon launched attacks at the other. Horus sent dozens of pebble-sized fireballs at Gabby before being surrounded by a tornado of sand.

Gabby was hit by most of the fireballs but due to the move's weak power, he was able to get away with only a few light injuries.

Horus did not end up so well. Being stuck inside the tornado, Horus found it hard to maintain flight and crashed on the ground. The damage from the move and the crash made the pokemon dizzy and confused.

Cynthia saw this as her chance to finish off Larvesta but before she could Xander called out before her.

"I surrender!" Xander quickly admitted

'My gosh! These grandkids of mine are so smart! This boy kept his pokemon in to try and inflict burn on Gabby to weaken her physical moves. And as soon as that didn't work, he immediately surrendered! Such an advanced tactic for one so young!'

Cynthia was screaming and hopping with joy in her mind but kept a stoic expression on her face as she announced the end of the round and for Xander to summon his next pokemon.

"Take the stage, Yuki!"

Jack's Vulpix appeared in the middle of the field opposite Gabby. And although the pokemon tried to look tough and ferocious, few could really take her seriously.

"Let the final round begin!"

"Use Sand Tomb/Powder Snow!" the two young trainers shouted as soon as the round began

A gust of snow was blown out of Yuki's mouth and struck Gabby almost instantly. A tornado of sound surrounded Yuki just as it did Horus before. But this time, the results were reversed.

Due to Gabby's 4X weakness to ice-type moves, she was knocked out instantly. Yuki had been hit by the Sand Tomb but due to her not flying in the air and not having a weakness to the attack, the damage she took was minimized to nothing more than a few scratches.

Seeing that Gabby was unconscious but otherwise fine, Carolina announced the winner of the match.

"The winner of this match is Xander and his partner, Yuki!"

The crowd around them cheered for Xander before hurrying to comfort Cynthia.

"You both did amazing!"

"Nice job, Xander!"

"No need to be upset, Cynthia. This was only your first battle."

"You'll get him next time, Cynthia!"

Carolina rolled her eyes at the villagers consoling her granddaughter.

'Are all of you fools blind?'

Instead of the sadness that most kids would feel losing a match, or the anger more spoilt children felt, Cynthia had a fire burning in her eyes. It was a dėsɨrė to train hard and not lose again.

'Next time! Next time, I'm gonna be the winner between us, Jack!' Cynthia silently promised to herself
