Chapter 24 – Winning Back the Shares Part 1

Zu Jin had been living at Yan Lin’s place recently.

In order to protect Yan Lin’s privacy, she commuted to and from work these days by either driving herself or through him.

Yan Lin had a video conference this morning, so he couldn’t see her off.

But when he went downstairs after the meeting, he found Zu Jin sitting on the sofa in the living room watching TV.

He looked at the clock. It was almost 8 o’clock.

“Aren’t you supposed to be busy today? Why didn’t you go to work?”

Zu Jin kicked him on the shin. “Get up and get out of the way. I’m watching TV.”

Yan Lin: “…”

Yan Lin went to the kitchen to wash the bowls and chopsticks they used for breakfast. When he came out, he saw that Zu Jin was even more mesmerised with the TV.

He went to Zu Jin’s side and sat down. Then, he saw that the news was showing the corruption and bribery of the board of directors from Qiyu Corporation.

""

On TV, the media had  already surrounded the doors of the Qiyu Corporation Building.

After that, the scene changed and several people in uniform were taking Heng Li and Chai Jun from the board of directors outside. They got into the prosecutor’s car and left.

Who would have thought that their CEO was sitting at home and nonchalantly watching them on the TV?

Yan Lin finally understood why Zu Jin didn’t go to work.

Zu Jin put her arms around his neck and gave him a firm kiss.

“I realized something that I always forget to ask you.”

“Hmm? What is it?”

Zu Jin fiddled with the button on his collar. “It’s just, do you like boys or girls?”

Yan Lin instantly became tense. This was because the more he knew about Zu Jin, the more he discovered that she pretended to not care about something when she actually really cared about it.

Like now.

“I like both. Why do you ask?”

Zu Jin replied, “At my age, I may not be able to have any more children after this. So, if you want to have one of each gender, I may not be able to satisfy your dreams.”

Yan Lin grabbed her mischievous hand and softly said, “Why does it matter? We will work hard in raising our child and they’ll end up being with another person. The one who I will be spending the rest of my life with is you. So it doesn’t matter whether our child is a boy or a girl. As long as our child is healthy and not sick, I will be very happy.”

Zu Jin nodded and stopped talking.

Yan Lin’s mind became more and more uncertain. He didn’t understand how Zu Jin thought of this after watching the news about Qiyu.

“What are you really trying to say?”

Zu Jin couldn’t help it and smiled sheepishly.

“Actually, before I fell asleep last night, I thought about how Ji Desheng is going to leave Qiyu, what is the point of me staying? I want to pursue success and I don’t necessarily want to be confined to Qiyu. So if the opportunity is right, I may start my own business in the future, or go to a different company. Qiyu is no longer suitable for me.”

Yan Lin breathed a sigh of relief. He patted her on the back and said, “Yes, I support you.”

“So… I have a favor to ask you. When the baby is born, you may need to spend more time with the baby. Will you blame me?”

“You mean you want to focus all your energy on your career development?”

Zu Jin finally went to work in the afternoon.

As soon as she arrived at Qiyu, Xia Tong almost burst into tears when she saw her.

“Oh my, Jin Jie, you are here!”

Zu Jin didn’t like seeing how immature she was being, so she ignored her and went straight to the office from the elevator.

Xia Tong stopped crying at once and followed from behind.

“Several groups of people from the board of directors came this morning, but they all left without waiting for you. Chairman Ji came this afternoon. He has been waiting in your office for almost an hour. Hey, why are you suddenly shorter?”

Xia Tong looked down at her boss’s feet and saw that she was wearing a pair of flat shoes today!

Xia Tong’s eyeballs almost popped out of her sockets.

This was because Zu Jin once said that she would feel out of place if she went out without high heels.

She could only feel professional when she wore high heels.

Although it sounded like this, society judged people by their appearance. This fact was very real.

People who dressed up proudly always had more opportunities and received more attention than those who did not dress up.

But of course, your ability came first.

No matter how beautiful the pretty face was, it was still a pretty face.

“Jin Jie, what’s going on? You’re not really sick, are you?”

Xia Tong couldn’t help but remember how Zu Jin fainted in the office the other day. She wondered if Zu Jin really was sick.

As soon as Zu Jin heard her question, she wanted to reply, “You’re the sick one!”

But she held her tongue just as she was about to give her a piece of her mind. After all, Xia Tong cared about her.

Zu Jin couldn’t talk about her pregnancy when it was the first three months. So she thought about it and told a lie. She replied, “It’s all right. I just suddenly found it comfortable to wear flats.”

Xia Tong followed her to the office door and stopped with a lost expression.
