Ning Youyou stared at the face of the man in front of her and said, “I’m indebted to you for your help.”

“You’re very welcome,” Mu Shaoqing briefly answered.

He gave her a hurried look before walking away, and the stony silence that followed startled her.

“Hey, as a token of gratitude, I’d like to invite you to supper!”

He showed a glimmer of interest in what she had just offered. The man stopped and gave her a perplexed look.

“Supper?”

Next, they found their way to a street food stall.

Mu Shaoqing sat there with his food on the table, lost in thought.

There were two bowls of noodles, a few side dishes, and two bottles of beer. Baffled, he could not help but wonder if this was really the evening meal that they were going to have. He remained reluctant to touch his food. Ning Youyou, on quite the contrary, indulged in her food without giving it much thought.

Her ravenous appetite was incomprehensible to Mu Shaoqing. Was she really hungry, or was the food really good?

Indeed, Ning Youyou was famished. They were planning to have supper together in the night market after their business at the club. Their plans were, however, inevitably delayed after the accident.

The bowl of noodles had definitely made her feel much better. She finally realized that he had not touched his food, not even the slightest.

“Does it smell bad?”

Mu Shaoqing looked at her without saying anything.

“I’m sorry. I’m sure that being a bodyguard means that you have to adhere to many strict regulations. A place like this must be too crowded and unfavorable for you to dine,” Ning Youyou said with her head down.

A prolonged silence followed, and Mu Shaoqing’s face dropped.

She had seriously mistaken him for a bodyguard, which made him wonder. Did he really look like one?

He sat with his face as long as a fiddle. “Do you really have to look so serious all the time? You have a charming look, so you should smile more often,” Ning Youyou added.

Again, he did not answer.

“I guess your boss needs you to look steely all the time, or he would be displeased.”

Mu Shaoqing’s face was overcast with annoyance. His grim expression was a sign to Ning Youyou that she should stop talking about the subject. Fortunately, the sudden buzz of her phone came as a timely distraction.

“Excuse me; I am going to answer the call.”

She was shocked by the amount of missed calls that she saw on her screen. Both Xiao Lan and Xiao Hong had called her more than ten times. She left her phone on mute while she was dealing with the police at the station and had long forgotten about unmuting it.

Xiao Lan was on the line, so she quickly answered.

“Hello, Xiao Lan.”

“Oh, my god! Youyou, you’ve disappeared for so long since we were at the club. We were worried sick about you. We were seriously going to lodge a missing person report if your phone went unanswered again,” Xiao Lan cried out in a loud voice.

Ning Youyou said apologetically, “I’m sorry, Xiao Lan, there’s been an accident.”

“What is it?”

“It’s all settled. I’ll explain to you in detail next time.”

“How could you slip away like that? Xiao Hong and I have decided on our companions from the club. They’ll be with us until 12 am and the service costs 5,000 yuan each. Do you want to come over and get yourself someone from Mu Se? It’s their professional ethic not to give away their clients’ confidential information, so you don’t have to worry about them circulating the stories.”

Ning Youyou’s face showed a frown of discomfort.

“Forget it, Xiao Lan. About that… I’ve given up.”
