35. Does He Like Me?

Translator: Antonia

Taking a deep breath, Du Chuxuan tried to feel how serious he was injured. Probably, this time he got injured most seriously ever in his life. Only the wound on his back was killing, let alone those cuts around his waist and abdomen.

Shifu’s foretelling came true. However, he was surprised that he got badly wounded not for a pretty fragile woman but a silly stinky man.

Yet, he didn’t dare to spell that out. Carefully moving towards the fire, he saw the great Crown Prince was going to put the still bloody hare with much hair over the fire. His eyes opened wider instantly as he tried his best to stop him, “Wait!”

Nothing is more important than food. How could Yuxing Tianrui retaliate against him by cruelly wasting a fat hare like this?!

Taken aback, Yuxing Tianrui nearly dropped the hare into the fire. Luckily, Du Chuxuan responded fast and caught it in time.

At the sight of his fast movement, Yuxing Tianrui found his lips twitched, “You seem to be okay.”

Du Chuxuan’s expression distorted a little and he quickly gasped a hasty breath, “You must be kidding, Your Highness. With so many injuries, I should lie in bed for at least half a month. How can I recover so soon?”

You’ve been applying medicine on me. Can’t you know that? Du Chuxuan complained inwardly while neatly plucking the hare’s hair, “Your Highness, to eat a hare, we must cut open its belly to pick out the inner organs. It’d be best to pluck it with hot water. Now we have nothing accessible, so let’s just cut it with a knife.”

Yuxing Tianrui’s expression began to twist a little as he saw with his own eyes how Du Chuxuan skillfully skinned the hare. He could only kill and eat it but couldn’t bear to see it brutally dismembered like this.

He randomly picked a subject, “Do you know the consequence of your passing out?”

In these days, he had been worrying. Now it was the critical time when the two armies were in a heated confrontation, and a commander disappeared suddenly. Besides, he was also the Crown Prince of Shenglan. He was afraid now the entire army lacked proper commanding.

However, Du Chuxuan was seriously wounded to save him, so his conscience prevented him from leaving Du Chuxuan alone. Therefore, these days meant torture on him.

Du Chuxuan’s movement stilled for a second. He didn’t look at him but asked softly, “I’m afraid it’s been days. But didn’t Your Highness poison Ashina Yi? Burn in Seven Steps. It’s not easy to cure.” He wasn’t annoyed at Yuxing Tianrui just because Ashina Yi was his sect-brother, and talked matter-of-factly.

Burn in Seven Steps was a kind of poison which was vicious not in that it couldn’t be cured but in the fact that it was hard to cure completely. If the person being poisoned with it wasn’t get rid of it within one year, the person would lose his/her reproductive ability. Hence, it was very vicious.

Yuxing Tianrui was stunned slightly and took a surprised look at Du Chuxuan. He really had underestimated him. He even knew Burn in Seven Steps. Supposedly, his shifu must be a marvelous figure.

“On battlefield, he’s my rival.” No need to say much, Yuxing Tianrui replied coldly, annoyed and worrying if Du Chuxuan was taking him as a ruthless person.

Du Chuxuan was surprised to find that he was able to read Yuxing Tianrui’s mind and turned to look at Yuxing Tianrui, who was frowning and looking away, like a naïve child.

Yet, Du Chuxuan didn’t say much and put the cleaned hare over fire. When it was cooked, he ripped off a leg and handed it to Yuxing Tianrui.

“Eat. We have to take a good rest today because we’ll go back tomorrow.” He understood that a general commander of an army must utilize all means to win a battle. After all, on the battlefield, showing mercy to the enemy meant being cruel to oneself. Therefore, he didn’t see anything wrong in what Yuxing Tianrui had done.

Besides, Ashina Yi, the one bullying his own sect-brother, should be punished anyway. This poison only made him painful. There simply should be a worse poison to make him too painful to get out of bed.

Having no idea of what Du Chuxuan was thinking, Yuxing Tianrui only knew that he didn’t talk to him after a long while and felt depressed. Now staring at the hare leg, he took a hard bite, taking it as Du Chuxuan and grinding it under his teeth.

At night, Du Chuxuan sat on watch at the cave entrance. He could tell that Yuxing Tianrui had been taking care of him and barely slept during the days when he was in a coma.

Now, once Du Chuxuan woke up from the coma, the boy almost fell asleep immediately. Du Chuxuan sighed and was reminded of his mom who also stayed up to keep an eye on him whenever he fell ill when he was little.

He glanced at the moon in the sky and seemed to see his deceased mom’s face, “Now, it should be fair to say that I married a good man. I’m afraid I can only be with him for this life. I don’t know who is more miserable in this case.

“But I was quite surprised that he didn’t kill me after knowing the truth. Mom. He likes me, doesn’t he?” After all he could only murmur the question to the moon.

Even if Shenglan was an open country, a relationship between two men wasn’t tolerated. For the fame of the Du family, he was afraid he had to live forever as Du Chuyue. However, he had no idea since when on earth his heart had begun to fall for Yuxing Tianrui too.

So what was so good about this fool? He shook his head wryly and finally leaned on a stone, slowly closing his eyes to take a brief rest before the run rose.

Yuxing Tianrui didn’t wake up until noon. He opened his eyes blankly and subconsciously looked at the cave entrance.

He had to admit that staying in the cave deprived him of the sense of security. What surprised him more was the fact that he should have slept on a bare stone so sound because he used to be a person very picky about bedding.

“You woke up? Have some food, or you may run out of energy during the following long walk.”

Du Chuxuan generously handed over a large piece of roasted meat and gave him a few fruits. Obviously, the Crown Prince had little life experience. There was a fruit tree right at the entrance, and he never knew to pick some to eat. Du Chuxuan wondered how he had survived these days!
