20. Enjoy the Scenery

No one paid attention to what Du Chuxuan had done. After he got out again, Dongxiang could only watch him leaving with the soldier and continue to stand on guard at the tent.

Some soldiers went out in battle, while some left in the barracks. He wished he could go to the battlefield to kill the enemies, so that he could provide his mom with a better life. But meanwhile, he was clear that someone never came back from the battlefield. He put his palms together and silently prayed for Du Chuxuan, hoping the Crown Princess would come back safe and sound.

At the sight of Yuxing Tianrui, Du Chuxuan froze for a moment. Usually this man looked either foolish or cheerful to the extreme. But now he was in armor, a look that Du Chuxuan had never seen. He had to admit that His Highness had quite a well-built figure.

Yuxing Tianrui was talking to someone and felt a gaze seemed fixed on him. He turned his head and saw Du Chuxuan’s intently regarding eyes, which at once set off a cheerful balloon in his heart.

“Beat the drums.” He ordered lightly. His look, falling into Du Chuxuan’s eyes, constituted a surprisingly cute of contrast from who he usual was. Others didn’t think as much as Du Chuxuan and minded their own businesses.

This battle would be a sneak attack. They wondered what Du Chuxuan had in mind. Previously, he had refused for many times to launch a attack. Now, he finally agreed, but to go for a sneak attack with a fanfare.

Du Chuxuan followed leisurely behind Yuxing Tianrui. He was merely an intimate guard once he left the barracks. On the battlefield, there was no Crown Princess— People chose to forget that.

But if anything really happened to him, they would certainly protect the Crown Princess first. Du Chuxuan comforted himself. Hence, he traveled all the way leisurely, as if he was on a spring outing.

“You seem relaxed, my princess.” Yuxing Tianrui caught immediately Du Chuxuan playing with a bristlegrass and couldn’t help switching on the mocking mode.

“Ah?” Du Chuxuan was reminiscing the taste of the roasted hare and turned around on hearing the words, only to see Yuxing Tianrui rolling his eyes with deep disdain.

He pulled his lips, too lazy to talk to this spoiled boy, and looked away. His sight happened to be brought to General Leng, who was not far away from them. To him, this general was his food-provider. Later during the fight, he would keep an eye on him, because if the general got injured or died, there wouldn’t be extra snacks for him.

Seeing Du Chuxuan didn’t reply but looked at someone else, Yuxing Tianrui pulled a longer face, “My princess, make sure to follow me close later. If anything happens to me, you will be buried alive with me.”

What a nice talker! Du Chuxuan cursed inwardly, “Don’t worry, your Highness. As long as you don’t act rashly, no one will take you as a threat.”

Tut tut tut. Why should this tiny body go to the battlefield? In Du Chuxuan’s opinion, it was already good enough for Yuxing Tianrui to sit in the rear and make orders. But the man insisted to fight personally. Wouldn’t it be a boost to the enemy’s morale if he got injured or something?

“Show respect!” Scolding, Yuxing Tianrui didn’t know why he was annoyed and slightly spurred his horse to go forward alone, not planning to argue with Du Chuxuan. The latter made a face behind his back, feeling he won this round. It was promising for him to get a final victory.

“Your Highness, it will be the enemy’s barracks in less than twenty miles.” A soldier reported to Yuxing Tianrui. The whole army temporarily took a rest here.

Du Chuxuan sat on horseback, terribly bored, and glanced around at the people, frowning slightly. Even though he had never learned military science, he knew the two key factors in a battle were army provisions and the number of soldiers.

Now the battle was yet to begin, provisions would be a problem for both sides. Yet, Yuxing Tianrui took with him too few soldiers. The Turks boasted an army of two hundred thousand, while they only had seventy thousand. There didn’t seem to be any advantage for them if a battle really started.

Besides—Du Chuxuan suddenly turned around to glance at the end of the troop. Was Yuxing Tianrui serious this time? They would arrive at the enemy’s barracks soon, but their own troops weren’t in a contract formation as the latter part of the army didn’t follow up yet. Wouldn’t they readily be wiped out?

“Drums.” Yuxing Tianrui ordered calmly, as if ordering a wine for the dinner. Du Chuxuan was so scared that he only wished to urge the horse and run back.

This would be digging their own graves. He didn’t want to die together with this fool in the hand of the Turks. Dongxiang said the Turks were all burly men, twice the size of an average man, with lush hair like monsters.

He forgot at this moment that they had just met the Turks earlier in the valley. The Turks weren’t as scary as Dongxiang described.

“What are you doing, my princess?” As the war drums were beating, Yuxing Tianrui naturally turned to his reliable protector. But he was surprised to see the protector keep looking back in a hesitant face and ready to run away.

“Hahaha.” Du Chuxuan hadn’t run when Yuxing Tianrui turned back with a I’m-waiting-for-you-to-catch-up face. He wanted to cry. “Your Highness is in such a good mood to enjoy the scenery all the way here.”

Three dark lines hung on the forehead of General Leng on hearing the words.

How did her Highness tell that they came out to enjoy the scenery? They were marching on to the enemy’s home with such strong powder smell while the enemy was also getting prepared to fight back. How was this a scenery?

Yuxing Tianrui wasn’t irritated. He always knew better of the rumors than Du Chuxuan. Quickly, he spurred the horse to stay side by side with him, “From this day, on every expedition, we as a couple will be hand-in-hand to fight against the enemy, leaving them no possibility of provocation.”

Cheered up by his words, the soldiers and generals all raised their arms and shouted in high spirits. At a time, the air was ignited.

Du Chuxuan embraced himself and smiled bitterly. Who wanted to be hand-in-hand with you on every expedition? Wouldn’t that be risking my life at a knife?

However, before he could say anything, the gate of the enemy’s barracks was open, and a team of cavalry rushed out first, followed by the lighter archers.

There were also many infantries behind. A way was made across the formation, and a man wearing luxurious clothes and a mask walked out from behind.
