Here Lies The Wicked

Chapter 60 - The Psychological Portrait

Chapter 60: The Psychological Portrait

Dong!

Dong, dong!

There were soft knocks on the door.

“Good day, I’m from the management. Someone has complained that you were throwing things off the balcony.”

One second later… Ten seconds later… No sound was coming from the inside of the house. However, there were rays of light coming from under the door; it seemed as if there was someone in the house, or could it be that the owner forgot to turn off the lights before going out?

Dong! Dong, dong!

Knocks on the door.

“Good day, I’m from the community’s welfare department.”

There were no sounds from the inside of the house.

Soon after that, the knocks disappeared. It seemed as if the management and the community’s welfare department left after no one answered the door.

Within the next second! Without a warning!

Bang!

The anti-theft door was blown up before it flew into the house. The vast inertia from it shook the house violently. A knife-wielding man rushed into the house viciously and said, “I’ve caught you again”.

Bang!

The knife was so sharp and strong that it destroyed half of the bedroom’s plaster wall. Rocks instantly flew everywhere, and dust was flying.

Bang!

The bathroom was destroyed.

Bang! The seven to eight meters long scorching blade immediately turned all electrical appliances in the kitchen into debris in the air.

Gray Qi + one.

Fang Zheng nodded in satisfaction. This was the fourth Paper Mache Man he had killed. He had a steady influx of one Gray Qi a day.

Just as Fang Zheng hopped over the wall to leave the Clear Lotus area, his expression changed suddenly. Fang Zheng unzipped the pocket on his jacket, and four pieces of paper began floating in the air in a particular direction.

Could it be that there was another Paper Mache Man causing trouble?

Fang Zheng was shocked. It was his first time meeting two Paper Mache Men in a day.

Xiasha area.

Bang!

An explosion sent a house into a fiery blaze.

The loud bang also broke the windows of houses around it. Sounds of screams, chaos, and people running for their lives could be heard.

When Fang Zheng rushed to the Xiasha area from the Clear Lotus area, he witnessed the chaotic scene from afar.

In the crowd that was frantically escaping the area, Fang Zheng spotted a few extraordinary people to his surprise. Two of them left quite an impression on Fang Zheng.

It was the scar-faced man and the ordinary-looking woman in her thirties from the carnival’s haunted house.

However, before Fang Zheng could get close, they had already hopped into a car and drove off.

“F*ck,” Fang Zheng could not help but curse. He was annoyed.

It was obvious based on what Fang Zheng had seen. The Supernatural Investigation Bureau was one step ahead of him in killing the Paper Mache Man.

The best proof he had for that was the four stationary pieces of paper in his hand. They went from hyper pieces of paper to stagnant corpses.

However, after thinking about it, Fang Zheng thought this was logical.

The last time Officer Wei asked him for a list of the novels, she had mentioned that she was investigating a case. It seemed as if every missing person had something in common—they had all read horror novels before they disappeared.

Based on that logic, and seeing the Supernatural Investigation Bureau in front of him, Fang Zheng had a realization.

He speculated that after Officer Wei received the list from him, she captured Paper Mache Men successfully through sting operations. The Supernatural Investigation Bureau followed suit and continued the sting operations; they finally caught one today.

With the capabilities of the Supernatural Investigation Bureau, it was illogical for them to have a lack of leads and rely on sting operations.

But!

‘I am 100% for you destroying the evil and protecting the righteousness of the living.’

‘I will concede defeat since you guys were a step ahead of me.’

‘But you could have waited right where you were for a little longer and let me get a sweet deal before you leave…’

Fang Zheng’s expression turned dark.

Maybe this was how his streak of bad luck began. When Fang Zheng rushed to the scene of a supernatural incident the next day, he was a step behind the Supernatural Investigation Bureau again.

The same thing happened on the third day.

He had been careful to conceal himself along the way. Although he had been rushing to the scenes, he was always a step behind the Supernatural Investigation Bureau.

This was not the extent of his bad luck; he had also been getting nowhere with his investigation in University Town.

He had been loitering in University Town day and night lately and wasted quite a bit of time that could have been used for training. However, his investigation did not get anywhere.

Days passed, and he had been delaying his appointment with Rich Man Dong over and over again. Fang Zheng eventually decided to meet Rich Man Dong for a breakthrough.

He could have Rich Man Dong help him get some information about University Town from Aunty. It was a better idea than loitering alone in University Town.

If he got into trouble for loitering too often…

Fang Zheng was not one to hesitate. He locked his door before it was even 7 am, brought a few changes of clothes, and rushed to the passenger terminal.

Getting to the jungle where the film crew was from Zhou City required three bus transfers. If he did not leave his house earlier, he might not be able to catch the third bus transfer.

Zhou City, police station.

A heroic, tall figure entered an office with clanging footsteps.

“Little Wen, are you doing anything urgent right now?” Wei Youran was the one speaking. She had her left hand in a cast in front of her chest.

“Oh, Officer Wei, how are you discharged so soon from the hospital?” Little Wen was a young officer with the title Criminal Psychologist.

“Is Officer Wei here to ask for a psychological portrait?”

Young officer Little Wen signaled her to take a seat.

Wei Youran sat down and said, “Yes, I need you, Little Wen, to sketch a portrait of someone.”

Young officer Little Wen was curious. “Officer Wei, this must be yet another tricky case given that you’re this eager to arrest this person right after being discharged from the hospital.”

Wei Youran did not admit or dispel that thought. When the young officer Little Wen was ready, Wei Youran was told to begin describing the criminal.

Wei Youran gave it some thought before describing specific traits, “This person is a man, he sounds like he’s between 20 to 23 years old based on his voice; he mustn’t be above 25.”

“A strong ray of light enveloped his entire body. His facial features couldn’t be seen clearly, but his height should be around 177 to 180 cm. He wasn’t obese or too skinny. He should have short hair…”

“Although his body was covered in strong rays of light, his brows weren’t too thick, his frontal bone wasn’t too high, and his facial features were positioned pretty evenly…”

Following Wei Youran’s description, a rough sketch of a portrait was eventually produced.

“Officer Wei, please take a look. Is it this person?”

After about 10 to 20 minutes, the young officer Little Wen was done with the portrait.

Wei Youran’s brows scrunched together as she stared at the psychological portrait on the paper. She continued saying, “The eyebrows should be shaped better, the bridge of the nose should be higher, and the chin should have corners that aren’t too pointy…”

After a few more amendments, Wei Youran’s calm and quiet face was startled for a second when she saw the final product of the psychological portrait. It was as if she had seen someone she did not expect; she was shocked.

Soon after that, the corner of her lips curled; a layman would not have been able to spot this change in expression. However, it was a criminal psychologist who was sitting across Wei You Ran.

“Officer Wei, this was my first time seeing you smile…”

“It seems like this man is who Officer Wei is looking for.”
