God's Dynasty

Chapter 16 - Collecting Reward

'I'm back.'

It was early in the morning, and the sun was rising. Ryan opened his eyes and got up.

Unlike last time however, his body was extremely comfortable due to him lying on a soft bed that felt like it was made out of pure feathers.

After he got up, he quickly grabbed his dagger that was under his pillow and began practicing the movement he had learned from Ethan.

Royal Swordsmanship Technique.

"It's really good"

Compared to Gabriel's sword technique, this was had less of a defensive capablity but had such overwhelming attack power.

In addition, there was really no reason to not use it as it helps train Ryan in putting Aurora into the sword.

After training for half an hour with the technique, Ryan then washed himself in the bathroom that was in his room before leaving the inn.

'It's not a place to stay long in that's for sure.'

He had gained alot of money due to catching Damion, but he knew that if continued to stay in such an expensive inn then he would run out of money fast.

Ryan walked towards the Flaming Horse, in order to collect his reward as promised yesterday.

"Well?"

On one side of the inn as he entered, people who did not look like mrecenaries were occupying seats.

Four men were seated, but they did not look like mercenaries at all. Next to them was a man and a woman, both in rich and gorgeous attire. Looking at them gave Ryan the sense of nobility.

Judging by the age difference, both seemed to be father and daughter and the father who saw Ryan stood up before approaching him.

"Are you Ryan? I heard you brought something for us?"

"You the ones who commissioned the Handkerchief request?"

"That's right, to be precise it was my daughter who is beside me that requested it."

"Is this it?"

"Right right! It is! May the seven gods be with you… uh…. Ah yes! Money!"

One of the men beside the middle-aged man took out a pouch with two gold coins and gave it to Ryan.

"Thought the request was four silver coins?"

At Ryan's question, the man looked at him strangely.

"This is the first time I've seen a mercenary question a lot of money?"

"… you are right."

It was then Ryan realized that he should stop asking stupid questions. Then, as Ryan pocketed the money, the man smiled and said.

"Well, to be honest with you do you know what sort of handkerchief that was?"

The man shook his head.

"My daughter's servant was the one who got robbed, and so my daughter requested for it to be returned."

The middle-aged man then straightened his back before offering his hand for a handshake.

"I am Baron Darth and this is my daughter Anastasia."

The girl who was seated didn't even look at Ryan.

Ryan reached out and shook the man's hand.

"I am Ryan, a mercenary… Your excellency."

After thinking about how his client was a noble, Ryan knew it was best for him to be polite.

"No no, please call me Mr Darth. The title doesn't even apply in this country anyway."

His deceased wife was from the City-States of the East and he wanted to return the ashes of his wife who had died of illness to her hometown.

"Actually, my daughter doesn't seem to like meeting with anyone here and she doesn't speak much eastern language herself."

"Oh."

"By the way, you seem very fluent in the Imperial Language aren't you?"

"I was originally from the Empire."

"Ah! I knew it, you looked different from most of the people here."

Darth then made a proposal to Ryan on the spot, it was a proposal that Ryan would be hired as an escort until Darth returns to the empire.

"Originally, I had brought over 5 Aurora users and soldiers, but on the way we had met a ferocious beast and they all died. Those servants we had brought aren't good at fighting either."

"… Thanks for offering me the job but why me?"

Only then did Ryan understand why Darth wanted to be friends with him. They found out he was an Aurora user and needed him as an escort.

Although they were very casual in dealing with mercenaries.

"Can I give you an answer at a later date?"

"Hm, I'll be here for a week or 2 so please take your time."

Darth then looked at his watch and said.

"I'll pay you generously if you join, so I do hop you accept my request. We are going to hire a few more mercenaries like you so do not be afraid in joining us."

Darth then stood up and left with his daughter and Ryan was left alone to think whether or not that he'd take the escort quest.

It really depended on whether or not Kissen's barony intersected with their journey, as Ryan wanted to get the elixirs from Ethan's stash.

If the road to the baron's estate overlapped it, then it would be great to accept the escort quest. The road would be much easier and he'll be able to earn money as well.

After leaving the Flaming Horse Inn, Ryan went to the blacksmith.

Right now, he needed the right weapon, not just some shoddy dagger he had picked up after his sword broke during the Gabriel fight.

Ryan began searching the store, looking around for the right weapon to use.

Thirty minutes after starting the search for a weapon, Ryan let out an annoyed groan. From the first he had entered to the third, there was no swords that were priced right or good at all.

"Is there anything you are looking for?"

Perhaps it was because Ryan kept picking up and putting down swords that a blacksmith who was bald walked towards him.

"I'm looking for a really good quality sword, even if it's a bit expensive. It must be made with an enchantment or something to protect Aurora usage."

Originally, he had wanted to buy just an ordinary sword however now understanding the importance in Aurora in battle he needed a good quality sword.

"If it's something like that, some things come to my mind."

Saying that, the blacksmith slowly twisted his tanned beard while thinking. Ryan who knew the jig grabbed throwing knives from the shelf.

"How much are these?"

"Half a silver."

Ryan then grabbed a single silver piece and sliced it in half before handing it over to the blacksmith.

"Go to the smithy called Dragon's Breath down the end of the alley."

"Is the blacksmiths there good?"

"The owner's father was the greatest blacksmith in Beret, but now its run by his drunkard son who forgot about his fathers legacy. But if you look around, you might find some leftovers from his father's time as the owner."

After nodding his head, Ryan left the blacksmith before moving towards the alleyway.
