Chapter 172: A Brawl

Several members from Empyreal Spire joined Chau Yu from behind. Empyreal Spire had never been about numbers; each of their players was an elite who could take on ten players alone.

Seeing that reinforcements had arrived, Slyfox was overjoyed as he said in the squad channel, ‘Zephyrwolf’s gotten all five skill books!’

‘Kill him!’ ordered Chau Yu.

The players behind him pounced like tigers. Man-of-Steel the warrior howled and rushed in with his two-handed greatsword while Hau Ngai calmly readied his bow and notched an arrow.

Tripurity sneered as he pressed his index and middle fingers together. Swords shot out from his back, some attacking Zephyrwolf while others struck players from Dark World; his sword broke off into ten swords! As he levelled up, his sword manipulation skills also improved greatly.

All Chau Yu did was oversee the battle and give orders from the rear.

Zephyrwolf grit his teeth and thought, Nene! I’m sorry! Nene, knowing what his plan was, lowered its head and howled. It then charged straight towards the exit.

She triggered all sorts of traps, but she galloped onwards, even when her Health was plummeting. Zephyrwolf followed tightly behind her; it was the same method Moonless Night had used to disarm traps.

‘He’s fleeing!’

‘Not on my watch!’

Hau Ngai released the notched arrow. With a yellow glow, the arrow broke off into a triangle mid-flight and bolted towards Zephyrwolf—Triangular Strangle! They all knew clearly that Zephyrwolf was a dead man if they could keep him in the room.

Meanwhile, five of Tripurity’s swords were harassing Moonless Night to stop him from summoning skeletons. Without his skeletons, Dark World was caught in Slyfox’s endless traps. As Slyfox belonged to Empyreal Spire, they could pursue Zephyrwolf without worrying about traps because traps weren’t triggered by allies.

‘Dammit!’ Zephyrwolf swore as he jumped deftly, just in time to dodge Triangular Strangle.

But Tripurity’s other flying swords awaited him. Five swords, aimed at his legs, arms, and head, formed a floating pentagram. There was no way for him to dodge the swords mid-air… or was there?

Nene, still entangled by traps, suddenly leapt. She lowered her head and headbutted Zephyrwolf from below, who simultaneously planted strength into his legs and jumped. The exit was not far away now; once he reached the maze, it’d be difficult to catch him.

‘What?’ Chau Yu shouted. ‘Intercept him!’

Zephyrwolf brightened up when he saw that the exit was close.

‘Jackpot… Damn, gonna ask for a pay rise later… I’m really risking my life for this…’

Zephyrwolf and Nene both dropped to the ground. Nene triggered another few traps and returned to Zephyrwolf’s inventory as a streak of light. She could only be summoned again after the cooldown was over. Now without Nene to lead the way, Zephyrwolf was also caught by a few traps, but he was finally at the exit!

‘Catch me, dumbasses!’ Zephyrwolf chortled and dashed past the exit.

Whoosh.

Boom!

The first sound was an arrow whizzing through the air, while the second was an explosion going off on Zephyrwolf. He was still in ecstasy as he turned into a white glow and disappeared. Five items—the five skill books—dropped to the ground.

Hau Ngai looked as cold as ever with his finger resting on the bowstring. He acted so calm that it seemed like he wasn’t the one who killed Zephyrwolf by predicting his movements and firing off an Explosive Shot with great accuracy.

Zephyrwolf died, and the five skill books were now up for grabs. Slyfox, still lurking around, rushed over immediately. Truth be told, he was ready to use Shadowstrike on Zephyrwolf if Hau Ngai’s Explosive Shot missed. With how many traps Zephyrwolf had triggered, he had been barely hanging on with a slither of Health, and even the slightest bit of damage could’ve killed him.

At that moment, silhouettes flickered past the exit where Zephyrwolf had died. A person stood before Slyfox who was about to pick up the skill books which were now missing. Or rather, someone else had snatched them already.

The newcomer wore a fiery mask.

Players from Dark World and Empyreal Spire all tensed up—it was Mask!

Drako Yau was late.

It was a maze after all. They took a wrong turn and ended up in a dead-end, a deep one no less. Much time was wasted by the time they backtracked to the right path. When he finally arrived at the innermost room, he saw Zephyrwolf die right before his eyes.

Silence ensued for a moment when Mask made his presence known.

Moonless Night gritted his teeth. Mask was already at the exit; once he turned around, there’d be no catching him in the endless maze. Left without much of a choice, Moonless Night lifted his staff and shot out a gush of black smoke from its tip. The smoke splattered onto the ground like a water spring and tumbled around, forming a humanoid shape. Red pupils appeared moments after.

Man and horse—a man mounted on a horse to be exact.

Such was the skeleton knight, the strongest summon Moonless Night had in his arsenal. It was one of his trump cards albeit having a long cooldown. Answering Moonless Night’s summoning, the skeleton knight’s horse immediately galloped towards Drako Yau.

Dark World boasted the most tormentors among all guilds. Seven of them cast Shadow Tentacles at the same time, sending seven shadowy demonic claws at Drako Yau’s squad. Among them, Fei Yeung who had once thought Drako Yau targeted his tentacles at his old nemesis. There shall be no escape!

Greenstone, Drako Yau, and Dumbgirl weren’t going to sit there and await their deaths either.

Drako Yau ordered, ‘Run!’

They all turned around and fled. Shadow Tentacles landed on them without any resistance, but they were already within the maze.

‘Pursue them!’

At Chau Yu’s command, Hau Ngai, Man-of-Steel, and Slyfox ran towards the exit where Drako Yau’s squad fled to. Chau Yu also joined the pursuit.

Moonless Night gave the order to hunt the fleeing Drako Yau down as well; Dark World simply couldn’t take it lying down. However, they were intercepted by Tripurity who stood before them alone, along with his floating swords.

Tripurity snickered and said, ‘You’ll have to kill me first!’ As the wielder of Sword Manipulation, he was indeed the best choice in a one-versus-many situation.

Veins popped out on Moonless Night’s forehead. ‘Get out of the way or die!’

The three of them ran as quickly as they could, but because they were slowed by Dark World’s Shadow Tentacles, Empyreal Spire had already caught up to them before they could take the first corner.

Hau Ngai attacked once he was in range. An Explosive Shot flew past the trio and landed ahead of them, the resulting explosion knocking them back. Man-of-Steel and Slyfox both closed in on them; their target was naturally the skill books on Mask.

Drako Yau uttered a hmph and readied his spear without any fear. His eyes, however, were set not on the two incoming enemies, but Tripurity and members of Dark World who trailed further behind.
