Game’s Dogma

Chapter 129: Encounter by Chance

By the time Drako Yau regained consciousness, his body had been completely healed, including the four fingers which had been sliced off. He opened his palm to try out his hand. Agonising pain struck his head, as if countless needles were prickling his brain.

‘Why?’ Ichor Hon’s voice was cold, while his expression was even colder. He squinted his eyes almost into a horizontal line and stared daggers at Drako Yau. ‘How did you notice me? Blood Mist is one of Lunar Reflection’s skills which specialises in concealment. You cannot possibly see me.’

Drako Yau sat on the ground without caring about his image and looked up at Ichor Hon.

‘It’s the wind. Even though Blood Mist is part of your internal powers, whenever you move within the mist, your movements still stir up a slight breeze no matter how careful you are. The flow of air reveals the direction you’re attacking from, that’s all.’

Ichor Hon turned silent and was deep in thought. As a militant person who loved fighting, losing at the hands of Drako Yau was a massive blow to his confidence.

‘Then how did you know I’m not good at close range combat? This is your first fight against me, it’s impossible for you to know my weakness.’

Noticing Ichor Hon’s confused look, Drako Yau was just as confused. While the swordsman was extremely strong in battle, his mind wasn’t as smart.

‘You told me yourself.’

‘What?’

Drako Yau continued, ‘You said it yourself that your style’s called Lunar Reflection, a style in which the wielder’s internal powers and sword reinforces one another. In other words, your internal power only affects your swordsmanship, not to mention your mind is set on the way of the sword. That’s why I made the bold assumption that your only way of attacking is through the sword. My only chance of winning was to seal your sword.’

Ichor Hon turned silent once again.

Although Drako Yau was a trickster who had a way with words, all his actions were connected to one another. A single slip, and he would be cut apart by a slash.

After a short while, Ichor Hon shook his head and laughed. It was praiseworthy enough when Drako Yau managed to force him into such dire straits even though Drako Yau was leagues below himself. Did he really need to force Drako Yau to fight him fair and square? It was unfair for the young man to fight him in a fair duel when he had cultivated and trained way longer.

‘Kid, you’re not bad at all. I, Ichor Hon, don’t have a lot of friends, but I’ll count you in from today onwards.’ He waved his hands then continued, ‘When you’re free, find me at the Arena hall for a drink.’

Ichor Hon then disappeared after another wave of his hand.

The Arena had also recovered from all the damage dealt during the fight. Apparently the mysterious power that healed Drako Yau and Ichor Hon also fixed the site. After pondering for a moment, Drako Yau returned to the Arena hall.

The system made an announcement on the global channel. ‘Congratulations to player ??? for the achievement: A Hundred Fights, A Hundred Wins. Obtained title: Master Tactician.’

The few people who knew Drako Yau’s identity had already sent him their congratulations through private messages a while back, but he hadn’t read them yet because he was being healed. After replying to the messages, he checked his notifications in detail.

‘Epic title: Master Tactician. When equipped, it increases Attack and Attack Speed by 5 per cent, Critical Hit Chance by 10 per cent, Strength by 5 points, and Agility by 2 points.’

Drako Yau was quite surprised; he didn’t expect a title would provide buffs of this magnitude.

The buff on Attack, Attack Speed, and Critical Hit Chance were not flat values, but instead percentages. It meant when he levelled up in the future and had greater base attributes, the buff would be more potent.

After equipping the title, he immediately hid it because all he wanted was the title’s effects. It was his style to maintain a low profile after all, even though he had already stirred up the entire community with his feat in the Arena…

Soon, his mind was set onto something else—Holy Blessing Scroll. He was more interested in it because it was a rare item which could upgrade equipment to a higher rarity.

Holy Blessing Scroll: Upgrades the rarity of a piece of equipment. The higher the item level and rarity, the higher chance of failure.

He searched through his item bag but couldn’t find the Holy Blessing Scroll.

‘What?’ Drako Yau found it really strange.

After searching for a bit longer, a headache forced him to cease his search. The final reward was Battle Medals, a currency for trading with NPCs in the Arena. He currently had a total of 1107 Battle Medals.

Drako Yau really wanted to rest. However, his body had already recovered, and while he now had a better understanding of his various states, it wasn’t nearly enough. If he had to suppress and control the forces within him… he wasn’t confident at all.

Upon reaching that conclusion, Drako Yau headed right back into the Arena.

The world was in an uproar when Mask appeared in the Arena again.

Given the eye-catching announcement on the global channel, it didn’t take a genius to figure out Mask had won his last battle. While no one knew how strong his opponent for his 100th fight was, Mask still achieved an unprecedented feat nonetheless.

It was truly no easy task to win 100 fights in a row. In Real World’s Arena system, it was only considered consecutive wins if the player didn’t leave the Arena, which meant one had to fight continuously in one go. Resting in the Arena hall was possible, but the win streak would come to an end if the player left the Arena or went offline. As such, a win streak not only required combat prowess, but also luck and great persistence.

When Mask showed up again, hundreds of thousands of spectators flooded into the spectator stands. They sized up Mask and his opponent in excitement. The opponent this time was an unfamiliar name, but who could say for sure that it couldn’t be another pro? They had been amazed enough by Mister Unfettered, Windstrider, and Fei Yeung’s unexpected performances.

Drako Yau had a good look at his opponent’s ID: Scaredyface. Seeing her silly expression, he was startled for a second as he thought, What are the odds?

Meanwhile, Scaredyface waved her hands eagerly as she shouted, ‘Big brother Mask!’

Drako Yau walked towards her and asked, ‘Why did you come here to fight?’ He was very grateful to the girl who once saved his life, and he had a good impression of her.

Scaredyface said with her cheeks flushed as she lowered her head, ‘I heard that the Arena has some good equipment… And I still don’t have Level 20 equipment when I’m already Level 21… So I wanted to try my luck…’

‘Oh?’ Drako Yau scratched his head and finally remembered.

In the Arena, Battle Medals could be traded for equipment. They were generally more powerful than ordinary equipment because they were all Epic-grade. More importantly, they were all in sets.

A set of equipment provided set effects which almost doubled as an additional piece of equipment. This was why Drako Yau’s Level 20 Skeleton King Set wasn’t a lot inferior to ordinary Epic equipment.

However, the set which could be traded in the Arena was an Epic set, the only Epic set which existed in the game. While providing set effects, it also had the powerful stats of Epic equipment.
