213. I Don’t Want to Help You

“Don’t be shy,” Fang Jingshu smiled as she looked at the boy’s burning ears. “Mr. Wei is your good friend. I’m happy for you.”

Yan Chuyang raised his head and scooped iced bean paste, “I’m not shy. I just feel a little hot.”

“Hot?” Fang Jingshu hurriedly turned on the air conditioner and said, “Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot to turn it on.”

Yan Chuyang frowned, “No need. We’ll sit for a while and leave.”

Fang Jingshu was in a daze and quickly sat down. “It’s getting late. Why not stay here for dinner? I’m going to make you chicken noodles tonight. It was your favorite when you were a little boy.”

Yan Chuyang put down the smoothies in his hand, “No, thank you. I am relieved to see that you are fine. We’ve got something to deal with, and we’re leaving soon.”

“Are you still angry with me?” Fang Jingshu’s face darkened, her voice hoarse.

Yan Chuyang’s raised his eyebrow. “No, why are you saying so?”

“I know it,” Fang Jingshu frowned, tears falling down her cheeks. “I know you still blame me though you don’t say it out.”

Yan Chuyang was anxious. He quickly took some tissues from the table and handed them over, “Don’t cry. I won’t blame you, come on.”

Fang Jingshu quickly grabbed the boy’s wrist, her eyes red with weeping, “Could you stay here to have dinner with me?”

Wei Qing coughed and said in a low voice, “Yan Chuyang.”

The boy was surprised and he quickly took out his hand. “I have an appointment tonight. I’m sorry.”

His reply was a comfort to Wei Qing.

Looking at the boy’s firm look, Fang Jingshu knew that she couldn’t force him to stay. Then she changed the topic, “Well, ok. How about a chit-chat?”

Shu gave them the fruit tray, “Now it’s tea time. Try this.”

Yan Chuyang couldn’t refuse. He nodded and tasted the fruit.

The room fell silent.

Wei Qing didn’t say anything but stared at Fang Jingshu and Li Xinqiang opposite him.

Yan Chuyang did not speak. He just looked at the food on the plate and then had some biscuits and then fruit.

There was a strained atmosphere.

Li Xinqiang reached under the table and touched Fang Jingshu’s leg, signalling her to say the goal they planned to achieve.

Fang Jingshu was quiet for a while and finally smiled at Wei Qing. “Mr. Wei, I wonder how you know Yan Chuyang.”

Yan Chuyang was stunned. He didn’t know why she said so.

Wei Qing chuckled, “We hit it off straight away. He’s quite simple.”

Fang Jingshu was overjoyed. “Yeah, you’re like old friends.”

Wei Qing nodded. Touching the back of the boy’s head, he said. “He is excellent and well behaved. We’re just like brothers.”

Fang Jingshu nodded. “He’s blessed with you.”

“Same here.” Wei Qing said in a low voice, “He changed me a lot. If I had lived in the darkness for the past ten years, then he would have been my stars. I appreciate him.”

It gave Yan Chuyang goosebumps to hear it.

Wei Qing rarely got emotional. Only when he kissed Yan Chuyang did he deliberately say some romantic words. He would adopt an air of indifference in usual days.

So, what happened to him today?

Fang Jingshu looked at them with just a suggestion of a smile. She nodded, “I’m happy for him to have you around him.”

The conversation went off on a tangent. Li Xinqiang was anxious and interrupted, “Mr. Wei, do you know anyone working in Gome at the Song City?”

Everyone present was stunned.

Fang Jingshu hurriedly pinched his thigh to stop him from continuing, but Li Xinqiang felt that he should make it clear since he opened his mouth.

So he shook her hands off and looked at Wei Qing. “Do you know Wan Zelin, the general manager of Gome? I’ve seen your photo with him in the Fortune magazine.”

Wei Qing smiled, “Well, we don’t have many dealings with his company. Privately, we’ve met up several times for a drink. We’re friends.”

Wei Qing’s words lightened up Li Xinqiang’s hope in his heart.

It would be easy for Wei Qing to help Li Xinqiang switch his job since Wan Zelin was a friend of Wei Qing. And Wan Zelin wouldn’t refuse if Wei Qing asked him for help.

“Mr. Wei, here’s what happens.” Li Xinqiang said with a fawning smile. “A department manager will be abroad to advance his career, so there will be a job vacancy. Quite frankly, I’ve worked hard in the company for over ten years. I’m an old hand now. If I lose the chance to get promoted, I’ll fail to gain any promotion in the future.”

Wei Qing picked up the glass, rub the rim, and sneered, “So?”

Li Xinqiang sighed, “I just want to make my wife and kids live happily. I have a hungry family to feed. You know the price is jumping.”

“Mr. Li, just cut to the chase. What do you want?” Wei Qing interrupted him.

Li Xinqiang’s eyes twinkled. He raised his head. “I hope you can help give him a call and put in a good word for me. You’re friends and he won’t refuse you.”

Wei Qing took a deep breath and sat back in his seat. Only now did he finally know why they were invited here.

He had a glimmer of hope for Fang Jingshu and Li Xinqiang. He thought that she felt guilty and full of remorse for Yan Chuyang and wanted to make amends for the past.

But he was wrong.

They were greedy and wanted to get more than they deserved.

Perhaps after Yan Chuyang gave Fang Jingshu 100,000 yuan, her family regarded Yan Chuyang as a cash cow.

Fang Jingshu never thought about treating Yan Chuyang sincerely. She only saw that there was a patron beside Yan Chuyang. She felt that Yan Chuyang could be put upon, so she put on her mask and fooled him.

Fang Jingshu got it wrong this time.

Wei Qing treated Yan Chuyang as his treasure, but it didn’t mean he would like all the people related to Yan Chuyang.

Wei Qing could help them if they treated Yan Chuyang sincerely. Money was not a problem for him and he didn’t mind doing a good thing. But he saw their true colors and he could not stand his treasure to be fooled by them.

He was not an idiot. Nor was he a saint to help an outsider.

He couldn’t see Yan Chuyang fooled by them.

What made Wei Qing angrier was that Yan Chuyang believed that his mother wouldn’t use him.

Wei Qing couldn’t forgive her.

Fang Jingshu noticed that Wei Qing was silent.

She became very nervous.

Yan Chuyang kept his head down, eating.

It wasn’t that he was heartless, but he felt that the topic had nothing to do with him and he couldn’t put in.

There was an awkwardly long silence. Just as Fang Jingshu was so nervous that she wanted to find an excuse to ask Li Xinqiang out to discuss the matter,

Wei Qing turned his head and looked at the boy beside him. “What do you think?”

Yan Chuyang was eating the smoothie. Hearing the man’s words, he coughed violently. “What?”

Wei Qing wiped the corner of the boy’s mouth with a tissue and said quietly, “What do you think? Do you think if I should help him or not?”

Fang Jingshu’s eyes were filled with hope. She looked at Yan Chuyang expectantly.

The boy swallowed the smoothie and said with a puzzled frown, “I have no problem. It’s up to you. If you want to help, then do it; if you don’t want to help, then don’t.”

Wei Qing snorted and turned to look at Fang Jingshu. “It is a piece of cake. I can get it done with a few words.”

Fang Jingshu nodded. “Yes, you are a big shot. It’s just a little thing for you, but it’s a big deal for us.”

Wei Qing smiled, “But I don’t want to help… Though it’s only a little thing, I just don’t want to help you.”
