Chapter 312: Journey to the North

Wu Dahu took the purse-like pack up and got it close to his nose and sniffed a little bit. As the tiny pack delivered a light smell of peace of mind, Wu Dahu could feel a bit warmth flashing across his heart. And then he reached out to tie the pack around his waist, turned around and cupped his hands paying a deep salute to the man inside, and after that, he left the village.

The speed of his return was much faster than the speed of his arrival, and Yuan Wenxuan as well as the rest of the group were still in the same place, and all had surprised expressions when they caught the glimpse of Wu Dahu, and Yuan Wenxuan subconsciously asked, “Uncle Wu, how is it?”

Wu Dahu held his dagger in his hand as he was delivering quite an imposing temperament, and after taking a glance at the rest of the family, he said in a deep voice: “It’s Saint Son Muye, I’ll go find him, you guys should stand by here. If I can’t come back before the night falls, go and get the official.”

Yuan Wenxuan, Hualian and Lusen exchanged glances there, seemingly all of them had quite a lot wanting to talk to Wu Dahu.

In the end, it was Lusen who spoke first, “Lord Wu, we have just gone to ask around a little bit and heard that that the so-called Saint Son is a mischievous person and is not a good-natured person who is easy to get along with.”

Yuan Wenxuan nodded and frowned, “That’s right. We heard that he didn’t even let go of a femina man in six-month pregnancy. He was super cruel that he had cut open that femina man’s stomach.”

Hualian looked rather serious as well on the face, and he echoed, “Most importantly, he got a gang of guards protecting him around, those who do not have any profound skills aren’t able to get close to him.”

Wu Dahu listened to their words silently, closed his eyelids slightly and replied in calmness, “That is also the reason I have to go there anyway, the more time I waste, the more perilous situation Han will be facing.”

At these words, all three of them were speechless, and it was obvious that they also understood this truth.

Yuan Wenxuan pondered and then took the initiative to speak again, “Uncle Wu, take me with you. I can give you a helping hand anyway if something unexpected happens.”

After Yuan Wenxuan’s beg, Hualian and Lusen echoed the next moment, “Lord Wu, take us as well, we will be useful at any case.”

To Wu Dahu’s surprise, even Little Shitou, the babbling child, also shard the same mood in such a scene and he shouted, “Take me! Take me!”

Wu Dahu laughed dumbly and reached out to pinch Little Stone’s cheeks. Seeing that Little Shitou turning his head away in discontent, he said softly, “I can only take Wenxuan with me, you two stay here and find a safe shelter with Little Shitou. If we are going to encounter something unexpected, you two take Little Shitou out of this place and go back. You should be safe and no one would take an eye on you.”

Yuan Wenxuan looked relieved and squeezed the little Shitou’s hand as if to bid him farewell.

Although Hualian and Lusen were a little disappointed, they didn’t express it at all. Besides, protecting Little Shitou was just as important as rescuing Song Qinghan. And if that was somewhere really dangerous, someone had to stay outside of it and made decisions catering to the changing situation at any time.

As every assignment was allotted to each person, Wu Dahu didn’t waste any time, and he asked Yuan Wenxuan to hold the scalpel in his hand and led him at a fast pace towards the north.

The area outside the northern gate was deserted and did not look like it could provide shelter for anyone at all.

Wu Dahu frowned and continued to walk further north without even looking back, looking as if he was sure there would be someone ahead.

After walking about a mile, Wu Dahu looked keenly at his feet side.

Tiny silver circled snakes kept wandering around them, yet no one knew whether it was because of their master’s orders or something else, but they didn’t come close to them, just followed from afar, looking as if they were escorting the two on the way to the prison.

Yuan Wenxuan, however, got tense all of a sudden while holding the scalpel tightly in his hands, and then he whispered, “Uncle Wu, are we almost there?”

Wu Dahu looked around suspiciously, seeing that yellow sand still filled the area as far as he could see, and then he answered uncertainly, “We should be there very soon, let’s keep following them.”

Yet, as soon as he finished his talking, both of them missed their step at the same time. Accompanied by a cry of alarm from Yuan Wenxuan, the two fell into somewhere in a rapid speed, and eventually they landed on an object featuring softness.

Wu Dahu flipped and got up vigilantly and agilely, while squinting his eyes and searching around carefully.

Unfortunately, the hole at the top had disappeared at some point, and nothing but emptiness and darkness overwhelmed them as if the night fell in an instant, making  them even unable to see their fingers.

Yuan Wenxuan also got up following the lead of Wu Dahu, rubbed his somewhat sore buttocks and whispered, “Uncle Wu, are we being backstabbed?”

Wu Dahu shook his head and said softly, “I don’t think so, or otherwise the bottom we landed on wouldn’t be the cushion which is soft enough but something like sharp bamboos or some other deadly stuff.”

Yuan Wenxuan shivered a bit at the scenario of them being stabbed by sharp bamboo sticks. Well, that would definitely be horrible!

Even if he was stable-natured, he was still a minor child at heart, and when faced with unknown dangers, it was quite normal to be afraid.

In the distance, a light suddenly emerged out of their surprise, looking like the eyes of a giant snake and it was rather terrifying.

Wu Dahu reached out to protect Yuan Wenxuan behind him, holding his dagger on guard.

Only when the light came closer did Wu Dahu and Yuan Wenxuan discover that it was actually a candle carried by a man. However, he who was holding the candle looked rather bony and skinny with his dress as dark as ink, which totally merged into the darkness surrounding them. That was why they failed to figure out that it was indeed a man at their first glance.

The bony man laughed terrifyingly for a moment as he found the existence of Wu Dahu and Yuan Wenxuan. The most creepiest thing was that his laughing voice was just as hoarse as a piece of flint paper being rubbed fiercely by someone, making people frightened intrinsically.

“Saint Son is waiting for you, follow me.” the creepy bony man suddenly uttered.

Hearing the word ‘Saint Son’, Wu Dahu knew that they did not get the wrong place at all, and that the other party had obviously sent someone to watch their every move, otherwise they would not have known that they were heading here at this exact moment.

As they walked through a long tunnel, Wu Dahu pondered about the possibility of controlling the man in front of him, but somehow he felt that even if he did so, he would not be able to threaten anyone, otherwise with the power of the Saint Clan, the man leading the way would not be starving in such a disfigured state.

If he couldn’t control anyone, would there be any chances for him to get the other party to surrender?

By thinking of this, he suddenly uttered, “How long have you been in here? Were you caught or…”

The bony man leading the way paused for a brief moment upon hearing Wu Dahu’s question, but soon continued on his way, while answering in an inexplicable tone, “How long have I been in here? I am not quite sure, maybe ten years? Or twenty years? Who knows?! But I might be upsetting you by saying that it was indeed my volunteer to come inside here.”

After he said so, he suddenly laughed again. And such a laugh startled Yuan Wenxuan greatly, the pitiful boy gripped tightly on Wu Dahu’s sleeves as if that action would save him from the great fear.

Wu Dahu did not have much of an expression, as he sensed that the bony man was not that malicious, and as for the reason why the tone of his voice was a little off when he spoke, it was probably because it had been too long not contacting with someone else.

But how strange! Wasn’t the heaven worship ritual the activity held by the Saint Clan? Why didn’t this man get out for such a long time?

“You are not a member of Saint Clan, right?” Wu Dahu sounded.

Noticing that Wu Dahu had guessed this fact so quickly, the bony man looked even happier as his laughter became louder and more ear-piercing.

“Oh yeah, you’ve got a brain, haven’t you? Those guys didn’t even know how they died till their deaths.”

Upon hearing the bony man’s threatening words, Wu Dahu gripped the dagger in his hands even tighter while squinting his eyes and saying slowly, “They? So, how did they die anyway?”

“Of course they…” answered the bony man but paused midway, and then he threw the candle fiercely onto the ground, smiling evilly, “They are ALL KILLED BY ME!”
