Chapter 277: Bugle Call

Translator: LiamHW

The current army camp was in a chaotic and turbulent situation, strident enough that it was even worse than the last time when the Commander General was first hurt. After all, the Commander General was hurt and injured in the battlefield previously, but this time, however, it happened right within the base camp, which was completely differed from the last situation.

Every single soldier at presence seemed to be rather vigilant when they viewed the other individual without trust, as if the next moment the other party would be discovered as a spy who had been concealing in this camp for such a long time.

As they were all criticizing each other, some of them started to vent their no-where-to-release anger on Song Qinghan at the moment they found the existence of him. And one among them pointed at Song Qinghan, while roaring, “Isn’t he the one who just came back from the barbarian area? He should be culpable and be under suspicion for exposing our information to the enemy. If not, how come the enemy is able to know our layout so clearly?”

The tent of the Commander General, to be honest, wasn’t that unique at all, while the surrounding layouts bore no difference with the other places. However, it would be nothing easy to probe the route toward his tent at the same time. So one thing was certain, those who came visit the Commander General alone should be the ones familiar with this route and environment.

Upon hearing judgement of the men who harbored the evil intentions, Shuluo opened his eyes wide and glared at those people, and then he fought back sternly, “Are you guys blind or what? He is the one who saved the Commander General from the most perilous moment last time. And now he is still the one who head to rescue the Commander General, please don’t judge everything without a sober brain. Furthermore, when did you witness that he had wandered randomly outside without purpose?”

Song Qinghan was never a guy who loved to get himself involved in trouble even dated back to the time when he was responsible for cleaning the chamber pot, let alone now, for one reason he was pregnant, and for the other he was confined due to the crime suspicion.

Those men seemed to intend to say something further in retort. But to their surprise, Jiayi emerged suddenly in front of them waving his hand while exhorting, “Disappear now and do not block the way of him! Are you ready to bear the responsibility if you guys impede the progress of curing the Commander General?”

It seemed that what Jiayi said was quite imposing to the chirping men. Those people exchanged their glances there, and then disappeared obediently even though they were still reluctant to accept it.

Song Qinghan raised his eyebrows slightly, and it seemed that it was in fact a surprise for him by assisted by Jiayi.

However, Jiayi seemed to be quite calm there, and he approached to Song Qinghan flatteringly. After a meticulous glance around at the scene, he uttered in a low voice, “I got an updated news here, I heard that the attacking barbarian followed the lead of Xiaoyan and entered the tent. And after their visit, no one else went inside.”

This was in fact the most crucial information in this case of evilness, and Song Qinghan nodded thoughtfully, reacted from his thoughts after he discovered himself was being stared by Jiayi with his pair of eyes shining, and he delivered a smile, answering, “Are you concerned that I will be irritated after being criticized, and rat you out?”

Noticing that Shuluo was looking over, Jiayi gestured to motion Song Qinghan to stop talking about the affair anxiously, and then he whispered, “I am really a good nature person, please don’t play with me about the ‘rat me out’ thing, we will be fine, and the Commander General will be fine too!”

Song Qinghan was currently amused by Jiayi’s reaction, because how Jiayi acted was like play showing how a most wicked villain shifted into a Buddha Goddess with warmheartedness.

However, he definitely knew that it was not the time to tease Jiayi right at this moment, he waved his hand and then answered peacefully, “We’re leaving now, be careful yourself. No one can be confident to make sure that there is no more spies hidden among the rest of us.”

Being reminded by Song Qinghan’s words, Jiayi was startled. In recalling the picture of how he eavesdropped the news without a sense to cover himself up, he started to worry that whether he would be assassinated by the members of the spy if the barbarian found that it was him exposing everything.

Song Qinghan saw through his thoughts, chuckled and left with Shuluo in satisfaction.

The subordinates in the Commander General’s tent were all familiar with Song Qinghan. They did not bother to block his way even though their eyes were full of doubt, letting Shuluo take him in without saying anything.

The head of the doctor group had already been there before their arrival, and was currently taking the pulse of the Commander General with his eyes closed.

And after Shuluo and Song Qinghan walked over, he put down the Commander General’s wrist, shook his head slightly, and then uttered with his expression twisted with seriousness, “No danger posted, but due to the fact that he bleeds so seriously, he might be unable to wake up in a while.”

Song Qinghan bent down and carefully examined the the injuries on the Commander General’s body. And at the sight of the special injury around his waist and belly, he was quite confused and curious.

Yet to his surprise, Shuluo had detected the strangeness as well, and he cried, “It is quite odd though, since the assassin was able to stab the Lord around this spot, why didn’t he choose to make it a bit higher so that it would have been a deathblow?”

Noticing that the head of the doctor group was looking at him with a grim expression, Shuluo coughed dryly, and he came to know he might have said something stupid again, and then he tried to explain, “Don’t get me wrong, I just think that it is quite an odd thing, and I wasn’t cursing the Commander General at all. Logically speaking, the assassin should be quite good at martial skills since he was able to enter this tent so easily. Did he get any other intention?”

Without waiting for the head of the doctor group to teach Shu Luo a lesson, Song Qinghan answered directly, “Yes, you’re right, he must have gotten other intentions.”

Since the other two had already drawn the same conclusion, the head of the doctor group got no more chance to retort. Besides, he did think that what they said made senses. But out of dignity, he just refused to admit.

Song Qinghan quickly prepared all his tool stuff and then commenced handling the operation.

It did not take him so long to have the operation done because this was not an operation difficult. After the operation finished, he stood up abruptly and spoke to the head of the doctor group, “Done, make sure that he will get a good rest in the coming days.”

The head of the doctor group nodded so as to respond, with a bitter smile on his face after one of his difficult tasks was tackled by Song Qinghan in such an easy way.

Since people within the tent were all the ones Song Qinghan was familiar with, so he did not restrain himself as a crime suspicion, and glanced around trying to examine everything within the tent. Something suddenly occurred to him in the mind when he caught the glimpse of the blood stain on the ground, and he asked, “I heard that Xiaoyan got hurt as well. Where is he now? Do he need some treatment?”

The guards who stood aside intended to reprimand Song Qinghan at first for his unruly and impolite behavior. But they all tried their best to control their temper, especially after figuring out that Song Qinghan was trying his best to be a responsible doctor. And one of them jumped out and answered peacefully, “Lord Xiaoyan had already gone for a fight against the barbarian.”

The spokesman among the guards paused suddenly after the confession, and then turned to look at Song Qinghan, adding, “And he had brought Lord Wu to join the fight as well.”

For some reason, a bad premonition emerged suddenly in Song Qinghan’s mind as he got tense all of a sudden. Yet he failed to point out anything wrong with that premonition if he had to mention.

Shuluo seemed to have sensed his worry. He glanced around left and right, and then spoke suddenly attempting to change the topic, “So how about the assassin who died in here? And who killed him?”

The guards exchanged their glances as if they were all hesitating whether they should confess or not. It was again the spokesman among the guards came to explain, “The assassin is now placed in the other tent, and probably the Lord will want to check him out after he wakes up. As for the man who killed this assassin, it should unexpectedly be Lord Xiaoyan.”

Song Qinghan touched his chin thoughtfully. Well, it seemed that some truths had come out in the wash.

He who was able to attack the Commander General was, surprisingly, killed by Xiaoyan?

Noticing that the rest of the people wasn’t showing their confusion toward the fact at all, Song Qinghan decided to keep the doubt himself for the time being.

It was possible that it wasn’t that they hadn’t noticed, it was just that the another war against the barbarians had come so quickly that they simply didn’t have the time or mood to think about further details, and at this time, anyone who could lead an army into battle was precious.
