209. Chapter 209: Things Went Beyond Will

Staring at Little Shitou’s face which was full of innocence, Shuluo reacted like he had discovered something treasure, and he rubbed his hands, uttering excitedly, “Oh, is this your son? I never thought that you would have a child yourself! Let me, let me take care of him if you don’t mind, You know what, I LOVE children…”

However, as soon as he reached out to touch Little Shitou, Little Shitou turned his head and buried his face deep into Song Qinghan’s chest abruptly as if he was startled all of a sudden, while sobbing as if to show his reluctance.

It could be seen that Shuluo’s expression suddenly froze without signs, and then he withdrew his hand back in embarrassment. Scratching himself on the head, he mumbled, “Pro, probably I got some smell from that bloody scene, it will be fine few days later…”

Song Qinghan chuckled and caressed Little Shitou on the head, and then nodded to Shuluo, motioning him to look into the direction where his sight guided to, saying in a low voice, “I live over there, you can go find me if you are free. And once I am free, I would love to follow you into the camp groups and see how many I can help.”

Even though his main intention in this trip was to make sure that Wu Dahu would be secured and make it a confirmation, that did not mean that he would turn his eye blind ignoring how the soldiers suffered in endless struggle and despair.

Shuluo had perceived the sympathy in Song QInghan’s eyes, he pursed his lips a little bit and chose not to be frivolous anymore. Instead of speaking in unserious tone, he nodded as a response while saying, “Fine, sorry but I have to leave for now, otherwise those petty men will lecture me again…”

“Alright.” Song Qinghan answered, nodding, and then walked towards his own camp carrying Little Shitou in his arms.

But he took a sudden pause at the gate of the camp as if something occurred to him suddenly. Without further consideration, he turned again and headed to the tent where the general he met this morning stayed.

Not knowing which time period the general would be in the tent, he had to make a confirmation in advance before he decided to ask the man for assistance.

He reached the tent not long because of the short distance between his camp and the tent. But out of his surprise, when he approached to the tent he found several soldiers were currently detaching the tent that general lived.

Song Qinghan was utterly stunned, and then he shouted without hesitation, “WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING!?”

The group of soldiers were frightened by the sudden sound, so their actions came to a halt at the same time, and then they raised their heads to look at Song Qinghan.

Nothing but wrath overwhelmed them when they eventually found that Song Qinghan was just an on-duty lowly logistic team member. Yet it seemed that they didn’t even bother themselves to waste time arguing with Song Qinghan, but continued to work detaching the tent.

As they finally commenced packing up the tools after they accomplished the task, Song Qinghan walked directly in front of them, frowning and saying, “The general asked me to find him this afternoon and he has an important thing to get me informed. Where do you think he will live since you detach his tent?”

And after that, Little Shitou peeped out his head in Song Qinghan’s arms, staring at those men with his watery big eyes, as if to question them why they chose not to answer his femina father’s inquiry.

No one knew whether it was out of Song QInghan’s tough attitude or because Little Shitou’s adorable appearance. The soldiers, who were still busy packing stuffs, all raised their heads, and one of them came to answer, “The general you are waiting for is currently injured, a serious one. And he was sent to be taken care by the Imperial Doctors. He won’t come back anymore, I guess.”

After finishing his words, they left the place directly with ‘debris’ carried in their hands while showing no interest about whether Song Qinghan had come to know the fact or not.

Song Qinghan completely comprehended them who were seemingly being rather heartless. After all, this was the front line and every moment was rather precious and couldn’t be wasted at all. He just hadn’t come back to his sense from that sudden news he was informed just now.

What did they mean ‘won’t come back anymore’? Did they mean that the general would go back to the city directly after being successfully cured, or… WOULD HE DIE SOON?

He stood there dumbfounded with his fingers trembled slightly, while his expression on face was demonstrating his disbelief and sorrow.

Little Shitou seemed have perceived his emotion, he came to place his chubby hands on Song QInghan’s chest tightly as if to give Song Qinghan a big and warm hug.

Song Qinghan hugged Little Shitou even tighter in response, and he sighed secretly himself, turned around and walked back to his camp.

Ever since he came here, this was the first time for him to experience the real feeling of being within the real battlefield instead of a virtual one. Even the presence in the Imperial Doctors tent groups where full of pungent smell of blood could be smelt did not give him such an imposing feeling.

After all, the general was in full vigor in the morning sitting healthily in front of him, and even showed his great amicability teasing Little Shitou, letting Little Shitou drag his big beard…

Jiayi looked at Song Qinghan strangely. Seeing that Song Qinghan’s eyes were full of redness with several tears lingered, he came to ask out of his curiosity, “Someone bullied you?”

Song Qinghan finally came back to his senses, and just as he was about to respond, Jiayi spoke again, “Then I should appreciate that guy for doing so, otherwise, I would think that getting a child here allows you to do everything within the area, and no matter what you have done and what mistake you have made, you can use the child as a shield.”

Noticing that Jiayi’s words were still a wrath-provoking type, Song Qinghan paused for a moment and then came to respond peacefully, “The general I visit this morning got serious injured, and then tent he lived was detached. I heard that he probably will never come back.”

Hearing that, Jiayi was completely stunned standing there, as if such a news was totally beyond his expectation. He tilted his head to the other side, and then rolled his eyes indifferently, “Who cares? Huh? We don’t even have to join the battling ourselves in the battlefield, besides, we will get our duty more relaxing since someone vanished, is… is that right?”

His voice faded away while he spoke, and in the end he seemed to mumble to himself instead of uttering with confidence.

Song Qinghan did not attempt to lecture Jiayi or do something else, well, Jiayi would definitely experience such things himself anyway, sooner or later. Like what Song Qinghan had imagined currently in his mind, that as the war got fiercer and fiercer, the familiar figures he greeted everyday would tend to vanish one by one and day by day would be a realistic but unavoidable fact. Although their works would be more easier, their minds would never be at ease.

As the sentiment gradually sank, Song Qinghan now commenced worrying about the more realistic matter: Who should he entrust to take care of Little Shitou?

Even though it seemed that all these generals were kind of easy-going, there was no one else who was like the general he met this morning.

These people had long been haunted by the nightmare of bloody war and unsteady disturbance, it would be an impossible way for them to take good care of a toddler.

Right in Song Qinghan’s arms Little Shitou was playing with Song Qinghan’s hairs, and suddenly he shouted, “Daddy! Daddy!”

Song Qinghan was flabbergasted all of a sudden, he almost believed that it was Wu Dahu coming, so he turned his head to the other side abruptly while taking up the mantle to cover his face.

Jiayi was quite confused but dubious towards Song Qinghan’s series of movements, he stared at Song Qinghan suspiciously, and then turned his head to look at the tents which were quiet without sound. He then laughed, mocking, “Even if the enemies really make it to defeat our army and approach us in front, do you really think that they will let you go with such a cover on face?”

Song Qinghan finally came to know that nothing was really happen, he then coughed dryly trying to hide away his embarrassment, and put away the mantle and looked at Little Shitou who showed an expression of innocence, whispering, “Your daddy is busy now, you little naughty! It’s impossible for him to take care of you right now, and… If he sees you here right away, he will definitely spank your butt for a punishment!”

Little Shitou pursed his lips while pinching his fingers unpleasantly. And now Song Qinghan felt more sympathetic rather than wrathful.

Was there someone who… was able to take Little Shitou out for a walk occasionally?

The image of a galloping horse suddenly appeared in Song Qinghan’s mind. And then he suddenly clapped his hands and cheered, “He must be the most suitable one!”

Leaving the words behind which made Jiayi even more confused, Song Qinghan walked out again with Little Shitou together. And this time he seemed to be quite confident.
