204. Blasting the Human Devil (II)

Translator: Dragon Rider

He Zheng faintly tasted blood in his mouth, and even the roots of his gums were aching badly.

The gods have no mercy whatsoever. Everything in this mortal world is dispensable to them. Engulfed by violent energy, feeling as though he was being torn in half, He Zheng inwardly prayed to the divine providence for a chance of survival.

He Zheng let out a yell and heavily swung the sword downward with all his might, sending all the energy accumulated in his body surging out toward the target. As the giant sword hacked down, everybody’s vision went white. For a full minute, what with the blinding light and the ear-splitting thunder, nobody could see or hear anything apart from the intense white glare and the deafening rumble of thunder.

He Zheng was the only one who saw this – the Human Devil’s pitch-black eyes which had no whites widened and burst into flame; her whole body was blasted to smithereens and then quickly incinerated amid thick thunderbolts intertwined with a raging inferno.

A roar loud enough to rouse the dead issued from the blazing sea of fire. The Human Devil’s cackles, weird and menacing, smote their eardrums again and again. Wu Fangshuo and Chi Li, who were relatively less powerful, were directly reduced to spitting out blood by the powerful sound waves.

The surface of the jade mirror turned into a protective barrier of enchantment and absorbed all the undulations of energy which seemed to be from another dimension. All the wild energy was contained in the mirror and didn’t spread out.

He Zheng had been at the center of the energy turbulence all along and his ears were still ringing. After unleashing all the power in his body, he felt as though all his insides were gone and there wasn’t a shred of strength in him. A trickle of blood wound down from each of his ears. When the lightning had died away, He Zheng feebly sank to his knees.

There was nothing left of the Human Devil. In the ground was a deep hollow caused by the thunderbolts, flaming fragments scattered everywhere.

It was only when the Human Devil had died that those trapped in the dreamy places created by her completely came to themselves. Arms going limp, He Zheng wearily lay onto the ground.

“Is she dead?”

“Yeah.” He Zheng heard Li Zong’s reply, looking into the crystal clear blue sky.

Li Zong lightly put his palm onto He Zheng’s head. He Zheng felt very comfortable and felt like having a sleep right away.

Zhao Fei didn’t look well either. The huge amount of energy that the jade mirror had taken in was on the verge of overloading his body. The other trainees had been put under mind control from the very beginning, and afterwards had been subjected to the violent undulation of energy generated by He Zheng’s lightning spell, so all of them were now lying on the ground, either panting for breath or unconscious, all in bad shape.

Zhao Fei watched as Li Zong scooped up He Zheng from the ground. After quite a while, he remarked, “I misjudged them. It seems that these boys of yours are not bad.”

It hadn’t been long since the Human Devil had been freed from the seal, and she had only regained a small part of her powers; on top of that, she had probably sustained some injuries before this fight, so even Li Zong alone would’ve stood a chance of confounding him. The reason why Li Zong hadn’t launched an all-out attack was because he’d seen He Zheng successfully performed the Quintuple Lightning Enchantment.

Since the purpose of this task was to toughen them up, naturally Li Zong wouldn’t interfere unless he had to.

Li Zong made no response to Zhao Fei, lifted his foot and aimed a playful kick at Zu Zhichong who was half kneeling on the ground, looking down at him. “You should feel ashamed, you know? Even your younger sect-brother outshone you this time.”

Zu Zhichong was rendered speechless by this remark.

“Chief, He Zheng had been to a magically created dream before, but this was my first time, okay?” Zu Zhichong felt that his explanation didn’t sound very convincing, because He Zheng was not immune to mind control either but had broken out of the magically created fantasy before him anyway.

“Clear up the mess.” Li Zong couldn’t be bothered to waste more time listening to his excuses.

The others also crawled to their feet one after another. The couple of trainees all looked quite ashamed.

“Group Leader Li, we failed to overcome our inner devils…”

“I’ll give you more training to enhance your ability to tackle this kind of situation after we return.” Li Zong didn’t harshly criticize them, but he felt it a disgrace that apart from two group leaders, He Zheng was the only one in these two action groups that had managed to break out of the dreamland.

The other trainees and staff members all had depressed faces, not daring contradict him.

Although just how Zhao Fei had promptly used the jade mirror, a magic tool, to absorb the undulations of energy, some minor energy waves had still spread out. The manager of the scenic spot, who was a few miles away, had heard the noises and come to the scene. Seeing that some of them had wounds on them and the whole hill seemed to have been struck by lightning, the manager was dumbfounded.

After the manager got over the shock, he grabbed Zu Zhichong’s arm and refused to let him go, demanding that he explain what had happened and pay compensation for the damage.

The manager also found the corpses on the bus and was nearly frightened out of his mind.

The young dog Yōkai hurriedly called the police, and then Zu Zhichong, who had been detained by the manager of the scenic spot, was finally “ransomed”. When he got out, the sun had already set.

Zu Zhichong, having been exposed to enormous energy, accidentally fallen onto muddy ground and also spent a long time standing under the scorching sun while being detained by the manager, returned to the hotel with a sulky face, reeking all over. He wanted to take it out on someone but couldn’t find anybody.

Under Li Zong’s orders, all trainees were writing an essay about their shortcomings and what they had learned during this task. After they returned, they would have to receive training aimed at strengthening their abilities to resist their respective greatest temptation.

All trainees were deep in misery.

Although damage control had been promptly carried out, there were still some traces of the fight at the Millenary Islands Lake that were uneffaceable, and some tourists had taken photos of them and uploaded them online. Posts about the paranormal phenomena near the Millenary Islands Lake in Hang City went viral on the Internet. Some visitors had also found alleged evidence of Zhao Fei being on the scene. Zhao Fei was so occupied handling this matter that he didn’t even have the time to see Li Zong and the others off.

All matters in this city settled, Li Zong and the others planned to set off to return to Coastal City.
