141. A Bond Formed in the Special Training (1)

Translator: Dragon Rider

He Zheng and others in his group were having a fierce fight with their adversaries. The tests of other groups, however, were progressing slightly slower, what with their lack of a “plug-in” like Lin Zhuo. Still, some vigilant examinees sensed that something was wrong.

Chen Qianlin was the first one to smell trouble.

Chen Qianlin had come with some disciples of the Tigers and Dragons Mountain, but after entering the Supernaturalism Management Bureau (SMB), Chen Qianlin had found that there wasn’t a single staff member in the compound; even those small honeybees that typically flew around the fountains were nowhere to be seen.

Chen Qianlin slowed down.

One of the disciples of the Tigers and Dragons Mountain, out of sect-brotherhood, asked, “What are you doing, Qianlin?”

In the normal run of things, Chen Qianlin who always regarded himself head and shoulders above others scorned to talk with them, but on this occasion, since the situation was full of uncertainties, it was definitely advisable to get as many helpers as possible.

“Can you not see that something is wrong with this place?”

This was the first time that a disciple of the Mao Mountain had hear Chen Qianlin deign to speak. He was stupefied for a few moments. “Ah? Something is wrong? Er… now that you mention it, there indeed seems to be something not quite right.”

He looked around. “Isn’t it too quiet?”

“I don’t know. Let’s go inside and see.” Chen Qianlin’s hand was on the hilt of his sword. Right at this moment, a black figure pounced on them. It was a demonized Earth Beast!

His eyes going cold, Chen Qianlin quickly unsheathed his sword. Other examinees standing beside him also had quick reactions and they all drew their weapons at once. The Earth Beast, maybe having been locked up for too long, was extremely ferocious, its eyes crimson. For this beast, they were like an appetizing hearty dinner. Starving and dribbling, the Earth Beast launched a frenzied attack on them.

With an anguished screech, an examinee failed to deflect a blow and was soon eaten by the beast.

This gory scene was very disgusting. All people present were disciples of prestigious large sects and cared much about their images, and they always tried their best to finish their tasks neatly and cleanly. Never once had any of them seen anything like this. Everyone of them felt somewhat sick.

“When was the last time they fed this Earth Beast? How could they let it loose when it’s still drooling at the mouth?”

“What’s going on here? How come an escaped Earth Beast is lingering in SMB?”

“Is it because something happened in the Ministry of Supervision? That’s where they keep dangerous beasts, isn’t it?”

“Cut the shit.” Chen Qianlin wielding his sharp sword did a twirl, exchanging blows with the Earth Beast. He panted briefly, his eyes staring unblinkingly at the angry beast. Seeing the beast’s dribbling and bleeding mouth, Chen Qianlin had a revolted look on his face. “It’s impossible for an accident like this to happen in SMB. This is our test. So stop your nonsense and think about how to kill this thing. If we die, we’ll absolutely be weeded out directly.”

On hearing this, all others felt that he’d got a point. Ignoring how revolting the beast was, they went all out, getting into a confused fighting with it.

In the room.

Dozens of balls of light using state-of-the-art 5D projection technology were recording not only moving images but also sounds and voices. Pleased with Chen Qianlin’s words, Zhao Yidi inclined her head and pointed at Chen Qianlin who had just gracefully given a sword strike, the blurs of the gleaming blade forming a pattern pleasant to the eyes. “This examinee is not bad. What’s his name?”

“Chen Qianlin.”

Zhao Yidi nodded with pleasure again. “Chen Qianlin seems to be the most powerful one in this batch of applicants. Li Zong, you’re short-handed, aren’t you? I think this one will prove himself a competent agent.”

As those balls of light were showing, apart from the group He Zheng was in, there was only one group that had realized something was wrong. Most examinees were still unaware that their special training had already started. As things stood, Chen Qianlin was indeed the most vigilant one.

Li Zong, neither servile nor overbearing, replied, “Chen Qianlin is outstanding, but he’s not necessarily suitable for working in the first action group.”

Zhao Yidi was very disgruntled. Having also heard about the relationship between Li Zong and He Zheng, she couldn’t help but sniff, “Don’t let your personal feelings cloud your judgement.”

Li Zong shook his head and said to Elder Chen, “Would you please zoom in on Chen Qianlin’s group, Elder Chen?”

Elder Chen bobbed his head, pointed at the ball of light in which live images of Chen Qianlin’s group were being beamed, and with that the ball was enlarged for people in the room to get a clearer view.

Watching the hard fighting being displayed in the ball of light, Li Zong said blandly, “Chen Qianlin lacks team spirit. From the very beginning till this moment, he’s never regarded any of the other examinees as his partner. Given the overall strength of this group, just now when someone immobilized the Earth Beast with a Fu, Chen Qianlin should’ve cooperated with others making a concerted effort, outflanked the beast, cut off its head and finished the fight.”

Others cocked an eye at the ball of light and found that though Chen Qianlin’s sword strikes were consummate and all hit the target, he wasn’t being a team player at all – other examinees tried to cooperate with him but were unable to keep pace with him.

As a result, after merely a while, the Earth Beast bit another examinee to death.

Face of Zhao Yidi who’d just been contradicted was dark with anger. After keeping silent for quite a while, Zhao Yidi said, “He Zheng’s group are no better. They might still be kept in the dark had the kid of Lin family not carried that magic tool with him.”

Since Zhao Yidi’s identity was pretty special and she had a quick temper, all staff members addressed her as ‘Lady Zhao Si’. Zhao Yidi was a nice person in every sense of the word except for her unforgivingness of others’ mistakes and unwillingness to admit her own mistakes. Seldom had anybody cut the ground from under her feet. On this occasion, clearly Li Zong had displeased Zhao Yidi.

Tan Lubai, in an attempt to smooth things over, said in a mild tone. “Let’s just wait and see. Maybe a Cinderella will show up soon.”

Elder Chen also said, “Yidi, I heard that your apprentice is an applicant as well?”

Zhao Yidi’s face slightly softened. Currently, only three groups had realized this was a test. There was another ball of light in which a fight was ongoing. In this group, Qiu Luo, Zhao Yidi’s apprentice, had been the first one to find that something was wrong.
