Chapter 20 Elf Ruins
Watching Geralt leave with the two young men, Wayne actually felt a rare relief.

It has been almost two years since he came to this world, and there are always people around him who need to be jealous, and he always needs to hide his abilities.

This is the first time I feel free.

He turned to look at Toruwell beside him, and said with some familiarity:
"It's getting late now, Toruville, let's go to the place where you live and talk about the entrusted matter."

"I'm still a little curious about how you lived in the cave."

The female elf frowned when she heard the words. Wayne's suddenly familiar attitude made her a little puzzled, but after all, there was a commission to be handed over to the witcher, so she didn't care too much about it.

After she gave a few instructions to the elf archers on the tree, she ordered them to continue to hide, and after guarding the entrance of the cave, she signaled Wayne to follow her and lead them into the cave.

This is a cave similar to a stalactite cave. There are countless conical stalactites on the top of the cave. The entrance is not big, but the interior space is quite wide.

Wayne followed Toruville, and the female elf held a torch in her hand, which she took down near the entrance of the cave. With some light coming from nowhere, she turned around along the way and walked through a complex route like a maze.

Finally, along an underground river more than one meter wide, through a huge exquisite arch, came to a building similar to the underground ruins of elves.

The space here is very large, and the structure is similar to the banquet hall in the palace. Four huge stone pillars connect the floor and ceiling, supporting a huge space.

"This is where we live temporarily."

Toruwell pointed to a direction in the hall, where there were several burning bonfires, and a dozen different tents of different sizes were erected beside the bonfires.

Some elves and dwarves were sitting by the bonfire to rest, talk and work. They were men and women, old and young. Most of them wore simple clothes and looked haggard. They should be ordinary civilians.

Wayne even saw a few short halflings standing by the iron pot next to the campfire, constantly stirring a huge spoon, cooking food.

"They are all poor people who have been persecuted by human beings, lost their relatives, deprived of their property, and can't survive in the town."

There was no expression on Toruwell's face, just a calm narrative.

"We took them in, taught them to fight, taught them how to survive in the forest."

"But the king's soldiers are still hunting us down and trying to kill us all."

"We can't do anything but fight back."

Listening to the female elf's narration, Wayne was a little silent. In the world of demon hunters, elves, dwarves, halflings and other non-human races have always been the targets of persecution.

Thousands of years ago, the Einshidi elves kindly took in the human refugees who fell into this world due to the convergence of celestial bodies. Accompanied by this race, there were cleansings and massacres one after another.

Forcibly killing them from a huge race that ruled the continent for thousands of years in the past to a minority race now.

Wayne has no ability for the time being, and has no leisure to intervene in the affairs of non-human races. He skipped this topic and asked while observing the surrounding ruins:
"This ruin looks huge, but you all live in this hall"

"You entrusted us, do you want us to help you clean up this ruin?"

Toruwell nodded, with her palm on the iron sword at her waist, without concealing it, but said directly:

"Yes, witcher."

"This is an elf ruin we found by accident. Although it is in a dark underground environment, it is inconvenient to live in, but at least it is hidden enough, and there is a sheltered place for us to live in."

"However, this place has been deserted for too long, and there are already many monsters living in the ruins."

"Several of my fighters have been damaged by the monsters here."

"You are demon hunters and experts in dealing with monsters, so I want to entrust you to help us clean up the monsters here."

Wayne nodded, did not immediately agree, but began to observe the situation of the ruins.

The history of this ruin is obviously quite long, and many places have been damaged and destroyed due to the baptism of time. However, from the exquisite murals and beautiful statues that can be seen here and there, one can still see the strength of the elf civilization in the past.

Through dark vision, Wayne discovered that there were four gates connecting to other places in the hall where Toruwell and others lived.

In addition to the huge archway they entered here, there is another stone gate that has been sealed with stones and mud, and the other two are guarded by dwarves and elves with weapons and torches, obviously guarding against monsters.

However, Wayne has already accepted Misha's mission of finding people today, even if he accepts the mission of the elves' ruins again, he will not be rewarded.

Therefore, he just observed casually in the hall, and said to Toruville:
"I can help you clean up this ruin, Toruville."

"However, it's very late now. We demon hunters must make adequate preparations before fighting monsters."

"So, please help me find a quieter place so that I can prepare for the battle."

"Tomorrow, after my companion and I meet up, we have discussed the issue of compensation, and we will start your commission."
