Wanli Xinming

Chapter 209 Ask the Monk

Chapter 209 Ask the Monk

On the eighth day of September in the sixth year of Wanli, the eldest daughter of the emperor was born, and Zhu Yijun became a father at the age of sixteen. For him, who had no children in his last life, this was a very fresh experience - as if he had grown up again.

In fact, according to his original idea, it is best to wait for the big marriage and have children, and set an example for all people in the world to marry and have children late.But as his understanding of the Ming Empire gradually deepened, he felt more and more that he couldn't postpone the day of being in charge until three years later;

And Zhang Juzheng's lifespan in the original time and space also made him feel the urgency of time, because in terms of political ability and prestige, Zhang Juzheng was the only candidate to initiate and promote the reform. As for the example of late marriage and late childbearing - it can be done by King Lu and the princesses.

Zhu Yijun felt guilty for the queen. On the one hand, when Zhuang Jingjia was immature, she was allowed to enter the deep palace; on the other hand, when Zhuang Jingjia's body was not fully developed, in order to allow her to obtain the status of the empress dowager after her sudden death and continue to promote reforms, he also Make Zhuang Jingjia pregnant.

For the sake of safety, Zhu Yijun asked the medical school to conduct in-depth research on women's production technology for a year.Medical schools were not inspired by her to invent midwifery tools such as forceps. After accumulating some surgical experience, I tried to perform lateral incision surgery and caesarean section on dystocia women who gave up hope.

Even on the premise that the traveler directly imparted the knowledge of infection, due to the backwardness of anesthesia and disinfection methods, the success rate of lateral incision was less than [-]%, and the success rate of caesarean section was just [-]%.

Among the people, the medical school's reputation for treating dystocia is like a god.But for Zhu Yijun, this terrible success rate is no different from dying. In desperation, when Zhuang Jingjia was about to give birth, he even allocated money and arranged for people to go everywhere to pray for blessings. The two palaces also chanted and prayed every day, praying for the queen to give birth smoothly.Empress Dowager Li also issued a special decree to summon two eminent monks, Zibai and Hanshan, who were in Wutai Mountain, to hold a puja to pray for blessings in the palace.

Maybe it was the care of the gods, or maybe it was Zhu Yijun who made the queen strengthen her pregnancy exercise. Zhuang Jingjia gave birth to a girl without using the operating room of the medical school.Although no son was born, for the ministers, the proof of the fertility of the emperor and the empress was enough for them to express congratulations. At the same time, they asked the emperor not to continue to favor him in the harem, in order to cultivate a good harvest.

After Empress Dowager Li warned many times and Empress Dowager Chen repeatedly persuaded, Zhu Yijun agreed to the two palaces. After the empress became pregnant again, he would favor other concubines and make children. After all, things like postpartum depression were spread everywhere in later generations. He also wanted to grow old with Zhuang Jingjia, so he had to be more cautious.

After the birth of the emperor's eldest daughter, she did not have a name. After the full moon, she was canonized as Princess Rongchang. The birth of Princess Rongchang also made other concubines in the harem extremely jealous.Zhu Yijun managed to keep his "temporary loyalty" to Zhuang Jingjia by sending out several people who led him to "ran into" the concubine in the Imperial Garden, Xiyuan and other places.

On the one hand, Zhuang Jingjia was very intoxicated by the emperor's special favor, and on the other hand, he was under great pressure. In order to dispel her concerns, Zhu Yijun had to tell her that he hoped that the eldest son of the emperor would also be a direct son - he explained the same to the two palaces.

The emperor's ability to resist the urge of the lower body during the pregnancy and childbirth of the queen also refreshed the three views of the people of the Daming court.Empress Dowager Li compared her husband and complained to Empress Dowager Chen sourly. She came up with an anomaly - looking at the appearance of Sejong and the first emperor, she couldn't believe that the emperor was a descendant of Sejong.

The monk Hanshan, who practiced in the palace, was one of the monks whom the Empress Dowager Cisheng admired.

In the Ming Dynasty, the development of Buddhism was closely related to the religious policies promulgated by the Taizu.Taizu himself had been a monk for a period of time, and he was very clear about the drawbacks in Buddhist management. After his establishment, he believed that Buddhism had both a negative side and an important supporting role. Therefore, for Buddhism, it was a combination of management and utilization. As for himself, he was not affected by Buddhism in the slightest when he was widely creating killing karma.

For the purpose of facilitating governance and ignoring the people, and to minimize the negative impact of Buddhism on production and life.Taizu formulated a detailed religious management system and measures in the promotion and management of Buddhism [Note 1].

These systems and edicts played a decisive role in the development of Buddhism in China.During the Ming Dynasty, the development of Buddhism in China was not as mixed with mud and sand as in the Manchu Qing Dynasty and later generations; nor was there no place to be suppressed as in the era of the eradication of Buddhism.Has been tepid, in a state of health.

Although during the Jiajing period, Buddhism suffered a huge impact because of the emperor's worship of Taoism, Emperor Longqing believed in Buddhism and corrected Jiajing's policy of worshipping Taoism and destroying Buddhism after he ascended the throne. As for his two wives, they worship Buddha to the point of obsession. In particular, Empress Dowager Li, Yuan Shi-kong’s Buddhist worship activities directly made Buddhism flourish in the late Ming Dynasty to its peak after the Sui and Tang Dynasties.

In the sixth year of Longqing, the Empress Dowager Cisheng, who had just come to power, together with Feng Bao, Duke Zhu Xizhong and other dignitaries, gave a big bell to Huanggu Temple.Huanggu Temple has always been closely related to the palace of the Ming Dynasty, which worshipped Buddha.

After Empress Dowager Li took the lead, she immediately set off a wave of worshipping Buddhism in the world where there was a certain foundation of Buddhism. "Inside and outside the capital, there are more Brahma temples, and the cost of moving is tens of thousands." After Zhu Yijun crossed over, he turned Empress Dowager Li's interest in building Brahma temples with her own money to Mongolia, Ningxia, and Tibet. However, in order to curry favor with the sages of kindness, the dignitaries in the Han region donated temples, fields, gold and silver, far exceeding the investment of their own money in the border areas.

In the second year of Wanli, the Ritual Department gave Shi Zhongliang an inscription "Three Articles of Forbidding the Left Way", in which it said: "Today, there are countless temples and nunneries in various places, and there are immoral temples inciting people's customs." Confused and foolish, it has never been as prosperous as it is today." - If Zhu Yijun hadn't stopped him, Empress Dowager Li would have killed him.

Empress Dowager Li could shout and kill during the incident, but she would not dare to do this to Zhang Juzheng. As a Legalist disciple wearing Confucian skin, Zhang Ju is an atheist in the absolute sense.

With the support of Zhang Juzheng, the Ministry of Rites issued a series of orders to "ban the left way", reaffirming the increasingly disintegrating Taizu "Affirmation of Buddhism", and resolutely discouraged the disorderly development of Buddhism. And the Empress Dowager Cisheng in the early years of Wanli was not very clear about the original meaning of Buddhism - the repair of the Niangniang Temple of Bixia Yuanjun with the inner money is the proof.

She was also very disgusted with the unorthodox trend of "passover ritual" and "luxury incense dip" in Buddhism at that time. Therefore, there is no longer any objection to Zhang Juzheng's well-founded suppression.

After Zhu Yijun gradually mastered the political affairs, Empress Dowager Li had a lot of time to worship the Buddha, and deeply studied the Buddhist teachings. She became an extremely devout Buddhist earlier than the original time and space.

Chinese religion has never achieved the lofty status of the Papal States in the Middle Ages. All Buddhists know very well that "if you don't follow the ruler of the country, it will be difficult to stand up", "all Buddhist deeds done by monks are nothing but blessings for the country, and the emperor is yin and yin." They are well aware that they must rely on the imperial power for their own development.

As the emperor's biological mother, the Empress Dowager Cisheng was highly valued by Buddhism. At that time, the eminent monks who were famous all over the world all regarded it as the most sacred mission to teach the Fa in the palace.

In the first year of Wanli, Cisheng, on the pretext of "protecting the country and selecting monks to recite the scriptures", was summoned by the Senglu Division to teach the Dharma in the palace, and Hanshan was in it.

Han Shan was quite wise when he was a child. Before he entered the Dharma to practice Buddhism, his ancestors saw him as smart, but instead let him study Confucianism and Taoism. Words and deeds teach.

In this way, Han Shan was like a hang-up after being shaved, and he was brave and diligent all the way, and quickly gained a great reputation.Because he is well versed in the world, he can explain the Fa for Empress Dowager Li in a simple and easy-to-understand manner, and he can explain the practice and realm of lay Buddhists clearly. Empress Dowager Li is very pleased.

In the spring of the fifth year of Wanli, Hanshan made a vow in his practice, taking the emperor's blood to copy the scriptures and praying for the queen mother as an example, and writing scriptures with blood and mud to repay his parents' deep gratitude.Cisheng was greatly moved when he found out about it. He felt that Hanshan acted in his own way and broke the rumor that "Buddhists abandon their parents and families in order to cut off their ties to the world", and ordered Zhu Yijun to "give gold paper to help" in the name of the emperor.

In the autumn of the same year, three eminent monks, Zibai, Miaofeng and Hanshan, held a grand prayer meeting on Mount Wutai, wishing the emperor's descendants a long life. This matter is even more in line with Queen Mother Li's mind. In addition to sponsoring donations, she also vowed to build the Shakya Manjushri Pagoda on Mount Wutai to bless the birth of the first prince.

By the end of the year, it was confirmed that Zhuang Jingjia was pregnant.Empress Dowager Li, no matter how much effort her son made, immediately recognized that this was the role of the Wutai Mountain Dharma Assembly, and she fell deeper and deeper on the road of worshipping Buddhism.

When Zhuang Jingjia was about to give birth, how could Empress Dowager Li not find the most trusted eminent monk to protect the Dharma? Therefore, Zibai and Hanshan were instructed to return from Wutai Mountain to chant scriptures day and night at the completed Rensheng Temple. When the queen gave birth, the Queen Mother Li said to Zhu Yijun: "Look, the eminent monk recites the scriptures, your daughter-in-law has a natural birth, what else can you say?!"

But the fly in the ointment is that Empress Dowager Li thinks that Princess Rongchang should be a boy.Well, there must be a problem somewhere, otherwise it shouldn't be.

If you have any doubts, you must ask, so on September [-]th, the day of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's ordination, Master Hanshan was taken to the Hall of Mental Cultivation. Cisheng and the emperor personally asked why the queen's first child was a daughter.

[Note 1]: In order to keep everyone from wasting money, Lao Mo put some information on the writer and said:

In the first year of Hongwu, Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty established the "Shanshiyuan" in Nanjing, and established positions such as commander and cleric. It is a bit like the religious bureau of later generations.

In the fifth year of Hongwu, eminent monks from all over the world were summoned and the "Guangjian Dharma Association" was established to collect and organize Buddhist scriptures. This work was completed in the 31st year of Hongwu, and the compiled scriptures were called "Hongwu Southern Tibet" in history.

In the 17th year of Hongwu, the Taizu decreed to institutionalize the distribution of degree certificates for monks, and issued them once every three years. Monks had to take an exam to obtain degree certificates, so as to eliminate unqualified monks.

  At the same time, Zhu Yuanzhang decreed that the temples in the world are divided into three categories: Zen temples, lecture temples, and teaching temples. Zen temples (jungles) specialize in practicing Zen, lecture temples specialize in teaching scriptures, and teaching temples (law temples) specialize in presiding over and preaching precepts.Therefore, monks are also divided into three categories: "Zen monks", who practice meditation, clear mind and see nature; "Teach monks", explain and teach scriptures;

In the 24th year of Hongwu, Zhu Yuanzhang's religious management thought was fully mature, and he formulated and promulgated the influential "Shen Ming Buddhism List", which became the most important legal document for religious management in the Ming Dynasty.

In the 27th year of Hongwu, he ordered the Ministry of Rites to promulgate nine announcements, making more specific supplementary regulations on the areas where monks should avoid self-discipline, so that all monks in the territory can follow these regulations to keep themselves clean and make the world "Good people admire it", "Buddhism and Taoism will prosper forever, and the world will always turn around", benefiting the country.
