7. An Encounter with Prince Xian

Translator: Flying Lines

“I have something to attend to.” With that, Su Jie flew out of the room by dint of his lightness skills.

“Childe…” Yu Jiang followed out in a hurry but only saw his figure disappearing by a corner.

“Childe.” Yu Jiang stamped his feet in fluster then ran in the direction where Su Jiang had left but stopped, panic-stricken, as Su Jie completely disappeared.

Su Jie went to the guest room he had stayed to get his own pendant, lest the maid might take it or just throw it away should he get there late. He had no time to explain to Yu Jiang.

Prince Rui’s mansion was picturesque with streams meandering, dotted by pavilions and rockeries. Intruders would easily get lost. But that was not a problem for Su Jie for he had memorized every detail of this place. Right now, he was heading right to his destination.

However, he didn’t know he was being followed by a shadow guard arranged by Prince Rui.

He had been focusing on learning skills like poetry, chess, painting, etc. these years, which somehow weakened his ability to sense danger or followers. With his superb lightness skills, he should still be able to get rid of the shadow guard, but now he was panic-stricken, anxious to get the pendant back, which gave the shadow guard the chance.

If Su Jie headed straight to the guest room, then his familiarity with the mansion would sure be exposed. By then Prince Rui would know he was a spy because under normal cases, no Jianghu boy should know the landscape of this mansion so well.

If Prince Rui resorted to violent or cruel means to interrogate, Su Jie would have to suffer.

Luckily, coincidence always happened in the most critical moment like fate had arranged it.

Su Jie bumped across Xiao Shengxian. It was rumored that this Prince Xian was just a copy of his father, thus much favored by the emperor.

The emperor had intended to make Prince Xian the crown prince, but he himself had no such interest in that throne or the power struggles of the imperial family, which angered the emperor so much that he eventually gave up on his favored son who also disappointed him the most.

But Prince Xian was delighted to finally have some peaceful moments.

Su Jie had seen this prince’s portrait before so he recognized him at a simple glance. He was more good-looking than portrayed.

Xiao Shengxian was wearing a purple robe, which highlighted his tall build and gave him an air of nobility. His fair complexion and bewitching slanted eyes together made him such a stunning beauty.

Su Jie had read up on every prince to learn which one of them posed the biggest threat to his master Prince Qin. He knew Prince Xian was Prince Rui’s brother and it was only natural to bump across the unrestrained and dissolute prince at this place. However, he never expected it to come so soon.

Xiao Shengxian was, however, quite shocked to see the boy in gorgeous red. The boy had an extremely delicate face, and an air of youthful indiscretion and vigor. The gorgeous robe he was wearing was so eye-catching like the blazing fire.

“What a beauty! How come I’ve never seen you before?” Xiao Shengnian asked in a teasing tone, sizing Su Jie up with interest in his slanted eyes.

Prince Xian’s sudden appearance upset the shadow guard’s plan and his breath was somewhat disturbed, which this time didn’t escape Su Jie’s notice.

Su Jie, sensing the shadow guard’s presence in the dark, felt some lingering fear and began to blame himself for his own rashness.

Had these years of coziness weakened his vigilance to such extent?
