16. Poisoned Food

Translator: Flying Lines

Yu Jiang was still wearing his timid and obedient look which soon turned into a look of fright as he saw the heavily bandaged Su Jie with only a thin blanket covering his lower body.

Face pale, eyes red, Yu Jiang sobbed “My child” as his lips quivered and tears rolled down his cheeks.

Su Jie was rendered a bit helpless. With no such experience nor skill of comforting others, he only managed some words in a rather dry tone, “Don’t cry. It’s just a small wound, I won’t die of it.”

His words, however, only made it worse as Yu Jiang cried louder, “Childe, it’s all my fault…”

“Er…” His cry gave Su Jie a headache.

To be honest, he’d rather suffer more flogging than facing this boy in tears.

Yu Jiang wiped his tears and stared at Su Jie with his big and clear eyes, “My Chide, it must hurt, right?”

“Not really, but I’m starving.”

“Right, please wait a moment, My Childe!” With that, Yu Jiang stormed out of the room, only to bump into the guard bringing food into the room. The next second, there came the sounds of plates smashing into pieces.

Su Jie, who was struggling to get up, trembled at the sound and fell back to the bed, heart broken.

“These damned bandages!” Su Jie forced a wry smile as he secretly blamed that Prince Rui for putting too many bandages on him. Now he could barely move!

“I’m sorry, I really am.” Yu Jian kept apologizing.

The guard rebuked with a frown, “You just ruined the food His Highness ordered for Childe. Clumsy as you are, how are you going to take good care of the Childe?”

Yu Jiang, too ashamed to talk back, began to clean up the pieces on the ground. Fortunately, there came five guards in total each holding a tray with delicacies. One smashed, four intact.

Su Jie sat up the moment he smelt the food and stumbled to the table after carelessly putting on a white robe, seemingly not a bit affected by the heavy bandages this time.

The guards were stunned the moment they walked past the screen in the room and saw Su Jie sitting at the table in a pure white robe with all the bandages beneath.

Su Jie now cut a somewhat funny and feeble figure, but even that couldn’t hide his pride and unyieldingness. And he in the pure white robe looked like the pure snow glistening under the winter sun.

The guards were well-trained with strong willpower who all left in order after putting the food down, not enchanted by Su Jie’s charm.

Immediately Su Jie began to gobble the food. The dishes, though a bit bland, looked delicious and tasted great. The only pity was…no meat was provided.

Yu Jiang walked slowly in small steps, with a guilty heart, to Su Jie’s side while apologizing, “Childe, I’m sorry to cause you trouble.”

Su Jie waved his hand after swallowing down the food in his mouth, “That’s all right.”

Yu Jiang spoke no more and silently watched Su Jie wolf down all the dishes. He was about to ask whether Su Jie would like to have some more when the latter vomited and twitched in pain, his face getting ghastly pale.

“My Childe!” Yu Jiang was terrified and hurried to support Su Jie while shouting, “Somebody help! Please save my childe.”

The twisting pain in his stomach made it impossible for Su Jie to talk.

The food was poisoned. He was poisoned!

Some guards rushed in upon hearing Yu Jiang’s shouting. They carried Su Jie to the bed in haste and fluster. Luckily, the House of Auspice was the most tightly guarded place in the mansion where news and orders could be passed down fast. In a moment, a doctor was sent for.

Xiao ShengNian was then having his own meal next door. Yu Jiang’s cry for help came the moment when he had just rinsed his mouth and picked up a piece of sliced meat.

Brows knitted, he slapped the chopsticks on the table and stood up, “Why can’t I have a quiet meal?!”

With that, he walked into Su Jie’s room in his casual manner. However, his casualness disappeared and face darkened the moment he saw Su Jie’s state.

Yu Jiang and the guards all got on their knees to greet the prince who, however, turned around and left in silence.
