14. The Gentle Prince Rui

Translator: Flying Lines

Xiao Shengxian, in a good mood, patted the nonexistent dirt off his sleeve and gave the order before leaving with hands behind his back, “Keep an eye on him. Don’t let him die.”

Then the prison turned dead silence again.

Su Jie steadied his breath as he guided his inner power to run through his body. Gradually, his mind went blank and his consciousness blurred. In his dizzy state, Xiao Shengnian showed up.

He walked to Su Jie, indifference in his eyes, and looked at the half-conscious Su Jie in silence.

Poker faced, he exuded a grave and dignified bearing.

Su Jie, in his muddled state, felt someone before him. Slowly he opened his clear eyes, in which Xiao Shengnian was reflected.

“Why are you in my dream?” muttered Su Jie before closing his eyes again. It should be Prince Qin who usually came to his dreams.

He had only his common blankness after waking up to blame for or he wouldn’t have taken it as a dream and even said those stupid words.

As expected, Prince Rui’s brows knitted out of discontent.

“As my little slave, who else do you want to see in your dreams?” Prince Rui’s voice was gentle and clear but without any special emotion coloring his tone. However, in his deep eyes was the usual smile he would wear and his noble robe was so out of place in this dark prison.

Su Jie’s heart jolted as he finally came back to himself. His lips moved but not a syllable was uttered.

Prince Rui was expecting the boy to argue or explain when the words, “I’m hungry” escaped his parched lips.

Prince Rui was suddenly reduced to a moment of trance.

Su Jie didn’t bother repeating the words again. He just lowered his head and stared at Xiao Shengnian’s black shoes while picturing in his mind all kinds of delicacies.

“You hungry?” Xiao Shengnian gave a soft chuckle and his heart ached a bit as his eyes fell on Su Jie’s parched lips and pale face.

Xiao Shengnian waved his hand at the guards, who upon getting the order, hastened to remove the chains on Su Jie.

Su Jie, legs weak after long time of being chained, immediately dropped to the ground. One of the guards was quick in action and gave him a pull, but accidentally touched his wound left by the flogging.

Su Jie gasped in pain when Xiao Shengnian tossed that guard a cold glance and carried Su Jie in his arms.

Muddle-headed, Su Jie smelt the faint fragrance from Prince Rui, a fragrance hard to tell but refreshing. He had never been held in arms by any other man, which softened his heart a bit. But that softness disappeared without a trace the next second.

Prince Rui’s tenderness was nothing compared to Prince Qin’s favor of saving his life.

He secretly warned himself not to be captivated by Prince Rui. His feelings and his loyalty should both belong to Prince Qin alone. He should never allow himself to have feelings for Prince Rui.

“So severely underweight. Eat more,” muttered Xiao Shengnian as he carried Su Jie out of the dark prison with great ease. Whether those words were intended for himself or Su Jie was unknown.

Su Jie put his arms around Xiao Shengnian’s neck, feeling a sense of security in his strong arms. However, he knew from the bottom of his heart that such tenderness wasn’t something he should cling to. Someday, Prince Qin would give the order to kill Prince Rui.

Su Jie’s ultimate goal was to witness Prince Qin ascend the throne. And anyone standing in the way was his enemy. He wouldn’t hesitate to kill Prince Rui once he got the order, now matter how gentle Prince Rui was to him.
