Chapter 31 – Lord Selim helps a beautiful girl

A few days after I met the Hero, I finished class and immediately called a carriage to pick me up.

I’m studying medicine today outside of the academy. Amanda had written a letter of introduction to a pharmacist acquaintance.

“Please stop! Let me go…”

As I was about to get into the carriage, I heard a woman’s scream. Surprised, I turned to the voice.

A female student was being forced into a carriage.

“What are you doing!”

I immediately stopped them.

“Lord Bergmann!?”

“Tch…! Hurry up and run the carriage.”

“Wait!”

I froze the whole carriage and rescued a female student from inside.

The culprits were frozen. If they have enough mana to enter the academy, they shouldn’t die.

“Call the academy staff and dispose of these guys.”

“Understood.”

I ordered Valéry to the staff room and faced the female student.

“Are you alright? Why did something like this…”

I stiffened midway while speaking. The girl student was a very beautiful girl. It wouldn’t be strange for a man who wishes to obtain her, even if it means committing a crime, to come out.

The girl was trembling and couldn’t even speak.

As I was thinking about what to do, a man who seemed to be a driver came running over.

“Young Lady, are you alright?”

“You are?”

“Excuse me. I belong to that person’s household. She is Miss Laura, the granddaughter of Sir Ponetti, a baronet. I am here to bring her home, but the nobles told me that a lowly person like me is not allowed to approach, so I could not save Young Lady…”

The academy has a large parking space. Only high-ranking nobles could park their carriages right at the entrance. So a baronet who was almost not different from a commoner would have had to go to the edge where there were few people. Is that what the villain took advantage of?

“We can’t let her go like this. Let’s take her home. Guide the way.”

It smells like trouble.

Among the nobles, there are those who have no sense of ethics and do whatever they want, but even such a person won’t get his hands on something dangerous. In this academy, where there are a lot of high-ranking nobles, if you touch something you’re not supposed to, your might end up getting fired, literally being burned. So to put it the other way around, it means that Miss Laura, who got easily targeted like this, doesn’t have a backing she can rely on.

Let’s hear what happened.

I decided to put her in the Duke Household’s carriage and take her home with the guidance of her driver.

Next to me, Gilbert was still staring at Laura, with his face turned bright red and frozen. Sending Valéry to the staff room might have been a mistake. Gilbert is useless in situations like this.

It seems that it all depends on my communication ability to hear what’s the matter with her. Huh. Let me see what happens.

I was guided to a large merchant house. A Baronet is only for one generation and is an honorary title bestowed by the King as a reward for some kind of achievement. In the Ponetti family’s case, they must have donated a lot of money.

When I went inside, what I found was something expected from a large store, and it seemed like they knew who I was just by looking at my face, so I was immediately led to the reception room in the back.

It’s hard to imagine that a merchant owning this many stores would send a beautiful girl to school without any backing. I wonder what happened.

“…my daughter was, oh my god…”

When I told Laura’s parents, who had welcomed us, about what had happened today, they looked at each other and gasped.

“Honestly, I think it would be reckless to send such a beautiful girl into an academy where nobles gather without any backing with only the status of a baronet.”

Among the nobles, there are many who were raised to be selfish and do what they want with their power. Sending a daughter who can’t protect herself to such a place is something that you absolutely shouldn’t do.

When I pointed it out, Mrs. Ponetti covered her face.

“Ah, it’s all because Father-in-law wants to show off and sent Laura to the First Academy…”

Being told like that with blame in her tone, Laura’s father looked troubled.

“I have asked Count Palatine Durante to let her enter the princess’ faction so that such a thing would not happen. However, when Lady Gelsomina, the daughter of Lord Count Palatine Durante, met our daughter, she glared at her and ignored her, and ever since, our daughter was left to her own.”

Count Palatine Durante? Our House Bergmann also asked the Palatine to act as a liaison with the princess. Gelsomina was also kind to me. However, I just knew that she was two-faced.

It’s the same with Hero Leo. The people around the princess are a mess.

The current king is intentionally raising the princess to be a crown prince whose only merit is strength. For the time being, the king has no intention of handing over the throne to the princess, who was born when he was 18 years old.

The princess is being turned into a doll with the status of the crown prince, a doll whose only purpose is to fight.

“Let’s make her quit the academy immediately. It would be dangerous if this continues.”

The husband made a difficult face hearing her wife’s words.

“You shouldn’t drop out of the academy too easily. Everyone was aiming for an admission ticket that would allow them to be in the same grade as the princess. By throwing that away, you will receive a lot of resentment.”

My words made the two’s faces clouded, and could not say anything.

“It’s a troublesome problem. I’ll tell my close aides to take care of Laura, but…”

The reason why the two cannot ask for protection despite having the eldest son of a Duke Household in front of them and the reason why I can’t tell them I’ll protect her was the same.

She is of low social status and has no particular talent in the academy. She is just a schoolgirl who is just beautiful.

My support for Leo, a man with overwhelming abilities, is no problem because anyone who sees me doing so only sees it as a way of recruiting talents.

However, if I started patronizing her, the surroundings would have groundless suspicion. After all, she cannot become my fiancée with her status and ability.

Chapter 21 – Lord Selim stays out without permission

By dawn the next day, Laura’s breathing had stabilized, and she no longer needed a water pillow.

In the end, I couldn’t sleep at all.

Noticing the light leaking through the cracks in the shutters, the owner of the house opened the window.

The stream of light wiped the darkness from the patient’s bed.

“… Laura, are you awake?”

“Yes, I…”

She got up and slowly slipped out of bed.

“Everyone, you were taking care of me. I’m sorry. Are you hungry? I have to make something for you.”

As she tries to leave the room, she stumbles in the middle of nowhere.

“Laura! Are you okay? Haven’t you recovered!?”

Yelled the man.

“No, because I slept for a long time, I couldn’t remember how to walk. But I feel great.”

“That means…”

《You completely healed a disease     Your experience points increased     +1000 experience points》

《Current level: 20    Current experience points: 1300/2100》

“You seem to have healed completely.”

Looking around, everyone was in tears. No, only Amanda isn’t crying. She looks sleepy and grumpy, as usual.

“This is the end of the treatment. I’m going home.”

I’m worried about what’s going on with the castle because I stayed out without permission. Because I’m the Duke Household’s precious son.

“Wait, brother. I’m sorry I doubted you. Thank you for treating Laura.”

The man kneeled on the ground and banged his head on the floor many times. In a hurry, his wife also bows to show gratitude.

“I don’t know if I can thank you, but I have some money I’ve been saving to ask the church someday. Please take it.”

I stopped him from trying to get the money out of his drawer.

“I don’t need it. I have enough money.”

“I…I see. That’s right, you look like a noble. Well then, if you have any trouble, tell me. I’ll do anything I can for you!”

“Okay. If I need it, I’ll ask you.”

With that said, I left the house.

For the first time in my life, I stayed out without permission. I must go home quickly.

When I returned to the castle, there was a demon in front of the entrance. It’s a demon bear.

“Where have you been? What have you been doing all this time!?”

The demon bear dad had already drawn his sword.

“Ah, erm, helping people…”

No, I can’t think of anything because I stayed up all night. What should I do?

“Bullshit!!”

Father slashes at me. Wait, my current MP…

《MP: 413/7887     Healing skill proficiency: 1251》

Oh no, my mana volume is almost empty.

If one completely uses up their mana, they would not get hurt. However, they would faint on the spot.

If you suddenly faint while fighting using mana, you will be killed, so I was trained to never use up my mana.

However, in this situation, how can I prevent my angry father without mana?

I desperately try to avoid Father’s sword, but his swordsmanship is far superior to mine. Katia, my swordsmanship teacher, told me to learn more swordsmanship that is useful in actual combat, but now I’m starting to regret that I should have followed her advice.

I did not have other ways how to deal with Father’s attacks. I have to use a barrier.

After creating a barrier, I blocked Father, I blocked, blocked, blocked…

Then my consciousness became hazy, and my vision suddenly turned black.
