Chapter 26: sun, cat and light

"Of course not, Detective, you can't just be suspicious. But that damned cat..."

The man inside the door gritted his teeth and said, as if the cat had eaten all his belongings, his expression was distorted:

"Get that cat away, I'm never going to help with any orange cats again."

"Okay, where is the cat?"

Xia De asked, he didn't like cats very much, but for the generous commission fee, he would not object even if he walked through the streets with a cat in his arms.

"On the roof."

The man pointed upwards, and the expression of gnashing his teeth became more intense:

"Since the detective came to foster care, this cat did not let anyone touch it easily, scratched my wife and Miss Cindy at least twice, it refused to eat cheap cat food, and kept bullying other pets here, I have been running this place for so many years, and I have never seen such an aggressive half-year-old kitten... at this time, it must be basking in the sun! Get rid of it, I can't take it anymore."

Xia De pretended not to hear the man's complaint, stepped back slightly from the door, and then looked up at the small three-story building:

"How do you want me to climb to the top?"

"In the courtyard of this house, there is an escalator to climb from the first floor to the roof. I will not go, I don't want to see that cat again!"

Of course Xia De didn't want to climb so high, he took safety very seriously. Just trying to convince the middle-aged man with a big nose, the latter directly gave him a 1 shilling note:

"Detective Hamilton gave me 1 shilling and 10p to take care of it for two months. Now give the shilling back to you and get it away! Don't let that cat in this alley again!"

The sound was almost hysterical, so that the children chasing and playing in the street, as well as the woman leaning out of the opposite building to dry clothes, all looked over.

It was really hard to imagine how much psychological damage that orange cat had caused him.

Follow the middle-aged man through the house to the backyard filled with empty pet cages. The middle-aged man was holding the long metal ladder, while Xia De carefully climbed up to the top of the building.

The roof of the building is full of all kinds of garbage and sundries, and I don't know how these things were transported up when they can only be climbed up by ladders. And at the southeast corner of the roof, the only clean ground, Xia De saw the cat lazily lying on the metal bar facing the summer morning sun.

It was indeed a kitten that didn't look very old, its body was as soft as a puddle of water paralyzed on the pipe. Its body is not big, and it can even be said to be a little thin. Coat color that shimmers in sunlight through the mist is an indication of health.

It's just that it's not so much an orange cat, it's more like a white cat in a warm orange blanket. It was only when the cat stood up that Xia De realized that the even dazzling orange layer was really the color of cat fur.

The cat stood on a metal pipe that was discarded on the roof, and one end of the pipe was placed on a broken sofa cushion, making the cat's position slightly higher than other surrounding objects.

It stood up and turned its back to the early morning sun. Its amber eyes looked at Shad, sizing up the stranger vigilantly. Xia De had no experience in dealing with such animals, and because of the words of the middle-aged man with the big nose, he was a little worried that the orange cat would pounce on him.

But this orange cat, named "Mia" like its owner, doesn't look very vicious. It was observing Xia De, and Xia De also knew that he was being observed, so he tried to be friendly as much as possible, and kept reminding himself of the value of this cat:

"I'll take you to meet your master, Miss Mia San Gold."

He found a place to stay among the rubbish, squatted down slightly and clapped his hands, with a deliberate smile on his face, and as expected, the cat didn't respond to this suspicious look.

"Miss Mia Gold."

Just now it was the most standard "Northern Kingdom Human Common Language", that is, Delarion. This time, it is a sentence with some Tobesk local accents, which is what Shad has learned in the past two days:

"I'll take you to your master, Miss Mia Gold."

The orange cat's small ears shook, raised its right front paw and licked it, then continued to look at Xia De with piercing eyes after putting it down.

Xia De pursed his lips, looked around, confirmed that there was no taller building nearby, and then stretched out his right index finger:

"look."

The silver light on the index finger lit up, and the orange cat's amber eyes widened immediately. It opened its mouth slightly, stood on the rusty metal pipe, and raised its head slightly to look at the light with its beard trembling:

"Miss Mia Gold."

Xia De continued, and then slowly approached the orange cat. Slowly stretched out his left hand, suppressing his worries about the "wild animal", and gently hugged it with one hand.

Orange cats are not heavy, at least not right now.

The cat was still tilting its head to look at Shad's right fingers, but after the light on the fingers went out, it didn't escape from Shad's arms. It leaned against Xia De's chest, swung its two little paws with appropriate strength, and picked at Xia De's shiny fingers just now, as if it was very interested in the "new toy".

"Very good~www.readwn.com~ The detective let out a long sigh of relief, stood up and prepared to leave here. The young orange cat, Miya, just squirmed uncomfortably, but did not struggle too much.

"I'm not fierce at all, and I'm even very obedient. It seems that I am also a person who can make other animals like me."

Xia De thought happily, and then saw something lying under the pipe where the orange cat was lying on its stomach just now. So he hugged the cat in one hand, bent down and picked it up with his right hand, only then did he see that it was a box of old Rhodes cards.

When Rhodes cards are used, a full set of 54 cards must be used. If there are special cards, they can be replaced according to suits and numbers, because all Rhodes cards have the same pattern on the back.

The box in front of him is not a special Rhodes card, it is similar to the set used by the three men that Shade saw in the tavern. The pattern on the card surface is extremely simple, and you can buy a box for about a few tens of pennies.

Seeing that it wasn't something important, he put it in his pocket. Then, holding the cat in one hand, he carefully climbed the ladder back to the yard.

Seeing that Xia De was really going to take the cat away, the middle-aged man with a big nose almost cried in front of Xia De.

Leaving Purple Iris Lane, Xia De didn't walk around with other people's cats in his arms, but went straight to the home of that Miss Gao De. During this period, except for the sound of "snoring and purring" at the beginning, the orange cat, Mia, only kept pawing at Shade's sleeves and the clothes on his chest, but did not try to escape from his arms.

Since Miss Gaode is willing to pay such a high price to find her cat, she must not be a poor person. She lives in "Sandro Street", a quiet residential neighborhood in the south of the city. Every household here has its own small garden, and the fence gates are marked with their own nameplates.
