Chapter 5 – The Duke’s House Visit

A few days after Yuzuriha-san came and unilaterally beat me up…

“Suzuha, today we’re having hamburgers.”

“Yay! I love your hamburgers, Nii-san. I really enjoy the texture of the meat.”

“It’s a special homemade coarse-ground hamburger.”

At dinner time at our house, Yuzuriha-san came again.

And with a new character, an old man.

“Yuzuriha-san, good evening. And who is this man?”

“I am Yuzuriha’s fathe—distant relative.”

He’s her father! He was about to say father!

This old man with a square-cut haircut, who looks very much like a big aristocrat, must be Yuzuriha’s father.

Then that means…he’s one of the three great dukes of this country…?

“Ah, I’m Yuzuriha’s distant relative, but I’m not a noble, so you don’t need to worry about it.”

Yuzuriha-san’s father stopped me from hastily trying to get down and prostrate myself.

“You can call me, hmm… Just Arthur would be fine.”

Arthur? Isn’t that the name of the current head of the Sakuragi Duke family? Even I, a commoner, know how famous that name is!

“Yuzuriha-san, what’s exactly the meaning of this…?”

When I looked at her with a puzzled expression, Yuzuriha-san gave a wry smile and said,

“Well, Suzuha-kun’s older brother. It is as you see, so there’s no need for you to be concerned. I’m just a student, regardless of whether I’m a noble or a commoner, and my fath—Sir Arthur, is not a noble, as he himself has stated.”

“I see…”

Well, it’s actually more reassuring for me that way. After all, I don’t want to be disrespectful to them.

However, I couldn’t just leave them without any hospitality while they were here.

“Well, we’re going to have hamburger steak for dinner now, but… Would you two want to join us?”

“We’d love to.”

That was a quick decision.

Wait, isn’t he the head of a prestigious noble family? Don’t they need to taste-test everything first?

“Suzuha-kun’s older brother, you don’t have to worry about my fathe—Sir Arthur. Even if he’s the head of a prestigious noble family, hedoesn’t have time for taste-testing on the battlefield. That’s why he doesn’t do it in his daily life either.”

“Please don’t read my thoughts.”

Also, isn’t he supposed to be a commoner just now? Did they forget what they had just said about him not being a noble…?

****

Surprisingly, our hamburgers were very well received.

The duke was going wild, exclaiming “Delicious! Delicious!” as he devoured his food and even asked for seconds. Meanwhile, Yuzuriha-san was apologizing and bowing her head, but secretly asking for seconds of her own hamburger.

That’s why the hamburgers for Suzuha that I had prepared in large quantities were completely gone.

As Suzuha’s second helping of hamburger ran out, she glared at the two of them with tears in her eyes. The duke, however, completely ignored her, while Yuzuriha-san turned her face away and let out a feeble whistle.

That said, Suzuha should not be glaring at great nobles.

“That was good, it’s been a while since I’ve eaten that much.”

I asked the Duke, who was patting his satisfied belly, about the purpose of his visit today.

“So, what brings you to our house today?”

“Hmm, yes, about that…”

The Duke turned towards me as if remembering something.

“I heard there was a man who beat my daughte—Yuzuriha.”

“…Yes?”

“I don’t mean to brag, but my daughte—I mean, Yuzuriha is the strongest and the prettiest girl in the world. I will not give her to a commoner!”

“W-Wait, Father!?”

“Yes, you’re right.”

It’s a fact that Yuzuriha-san is extremely strong and cute, so it’s natural for her father to think that way.

And regarding Yuzuriha-san acknowledging this person is her father, I won’t point it out anymore since it’s troublesome.
